“Lovely welcoming home in a stunning part of the world.”
A very comfortable and well equipped home. Modern, has everything needed for a good holiday, vey nice interior decor, spotlessly clean. Booking and key collection very simple, both Jessie and Ray are very friendly and easy to deal with. Manapouri is a stunning location (almost don't want to tell too many people this!!). Catch the day trip to Doubtful Sound and learn the real meaning of awesome. Keplar Track if you are feeling energetic. Sit quietly on Frasers Beach and be part of a stunning mountain lake and even more beautiful mountains. Local (and only) pub has friendly staff and nice meals. All in all a perfect place to stay and we will be back!!
Response from the owner Thanks for your feedback Margaret, we. Look forward to seeing you back here at this very special place one day. Cheers Jessie and Ray
“We will never be royals”
We had traveled most of the south island and stayed in some great places but we had not stayed anywhere that had a homely feel to it. From the start it was refreshing to be at Moto au we were able to stretch out the kids could chill feeling happy they just play in such an awesome area. We were far enough away from the maddening crowd and town but also close enough to be able to get supplies. The lake was a quick walk away and getting to tourist hot spots like milford and the worm caves very close. Our hosts were fabulous and we're attentive without being intrusive and made us feel at home. I have no hesitation in endorsing this property as it was a diamond in the flesh.
“A home away from home”
We were greeted in person by the owner, who was happy to have a chat and fill us in on the home and surrounding area. The home is very comfy, and has everything you need to make your stay relaxing.
“Could not have asked for more!”
Well organised. All amenities were available in a very comfortable house, we really felt at home. Doubtful sound is a must & the house is within walking distance from the boat to start tour. Restaurant in motel was also within walking distance & we enjoyed our meals there. Many thanks.
“Very comfortable, well equipped self catering”
Very good self catering bungalow, spacious well equipped and comfortable. Good location for the Doubtful Sound Cruises 2 minutes from the ferry across Lake Manapouri.
“The beginning of a great holiday”
This was a wonderful place to stay! The house is modern, functional, clean and comfortable. We wish we had more time to use the property to its full potential. The place is very affordable and we were very impressed with the owners Jessie and Ray who were very helpful, organised and personable from when we first inquired about the property to when we left. We opted to include the cruises around Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound and Lake Te anau, which were absolutely breathtaking. We would highly recommend this place.
“Home away from home!”
We had a very enjoyable stay here. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well set up - games and puzzles to keep the kids busy and the kitchen was very well equipped. It was perfectly located for our Doubtful Sound cruise, being only a short walk to the terminal. Just what we wanted.
“Very comfortable and most convenient.”
The cottage is modern, very well appointed with everything travelers could want. In addition, Jesse's recommendations regarding the Doubtful Sound tour and the Lakeside Cafe were spot on!
Ray & Jessie Haanen are to be congratulated! Our Christmas Day in no. 16 Motu-Au Close will be a life-long memory for our family. Beautifully furnished and provisioned with comforts that make travel a delight. To have stayed longer would have been great. The cottage is not lake front but not a problem; just a few minutes walk to lake. Mountain vistas from most, if not all, rooms. Definitely to be recommended.
“Home away from home (but cleaner & tidier!)”
Clean, spacious and well equipped, Ray & Jessie's cottage was perfect for us as we were travelling with our toddler. It was big enough for him to have a room to himself and to run around inside and in the back yard. We arrived early which was no problem and were shown around then left to enjoy our privacy. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook a decent meal both nights plus there was the option of the BBQ. The place was spotless and decorated beautifully- better than most hotels we stay in. Jessie even posted our cot blanket back to us which we left behind! I would definitely stay there again next time we are in the area and have no hesitation recommending the cottage to friends & relatives.
