“Tranquility, Privacy, Equipped, Excellent Location, Just Beautiful.”
My husband and I travel extensively, and last year, we travelled for just over a full year hitting 25 countries. We've stayed in everything from farmhouses, hostels, guesthouses, B & B's, and the range of 1 to 5 Star hotel accommodations. I mention this to substantiate our review. Why does The Secret Garden stand out as one of the top 3 locations we've EVER stayed at? The general reasons that stand out include: convenient central location and clear directions to find it; hosts that are there to greet you and ensure that your stay, not only in their accommodation, but also on the island, is very memorable and enjoyable, yet also give you complete privacy; cleanliness is excellent; and the room is fully equipped in the kitchen, washroom and has everything for the beach. Unbelievable amount of supplies are provided! More specific reasons that we will definitely stay again and would HIGHLY recommend this property include: the garden itself, so tranquil and beautiful with a fountain and pond just outside your door making it difficult to get going for the day...one morning coffee on the patio leading to three, as we would just enjoy our surrounding, plus full use of the large and gorgeous garden property so meticulously cared for and full with a variety of greenery and flowers, an oasis; coffee, tea, and fresh fruit, and some island treats are provided in the room on your arrival; guidebook in the room with maps, restaurant recommendations, island info; reliable and fast wi-fi included; private entrance; parking is free and on the property; a perfect hideaway/getaway; felt completely at home, and absolutely did not want to leave! The Secret Garden Room is THE place to stay if you love the feeling of coming 'home' after a full island day, knowing that you have everything you need there to relax before your next adventure. Heartfelt thanks to Carol and Les, our hosts who really made our stay fantastic! Read their guestbook and you will find the same appreciation from worldwide visitors.
“The feel of a 5 Star private resort! Amazing owners and grounds”
I stumbled upon Les and Carol's beautiful rental while looking for a reasonable place to stay in Kauai. When I found it, I just "knew" it was the right place for us. I told Carol that I thought my guardian angels were working extra hard for me that day when I enquired into booking the lovely Secret Garden Room. Carol is warm, personable and professional, as is her husband Les. They have built a gorgeous haven off the back of their home. We arrived and my S.O. stated: "Wow this is like a 5 star hotel room" I couldn't agree more. Carol showed us around and introduced us to the local fruits that were graciously left in our beautiful room. The gardens are amazing, I wish I could have spent more time in them :( I didn't even get to write in the guest book because it was non-stop action for us during our stay. Do not hesitate to stay in this little bit of heaven. I needed nor wanted for anything. Les and Carol have thought of everthing!! This incredible rental is right in the center of the North and South shore and we easily followed the sun since we did arrive in "winter" but, the warm rains make the garden that much more beautiful. Everything was picture perfect!!! The pics on the site do not do this slice of heaven justice! Stay and and you will not be disappointed. Carol and Les leave you to enjoy and relish in this space. They are there if you need them, but, it feels like your own private home the entire time. I actually wish I would have seen them more because I loved talking with them but, they understand romantic get-aways and that is what they want to deliver. Amazing people, amazing space...Never to be forgotten...Mahalo
“beautiful, top notch, the place to stay”
I stayed at this beautiful place for two short nights, it is very well done and a beautiful garden setting. very private. Carol provides everything one could want to make your stay superb. the only issue that I had was the cleaning fee of $65.00 for two nights. so, if you are on a budget you may want to consider that the cleaning fee is the same no matter how long you stay. other than that, it was my number one place out of the three I stayed at during my two weeks there.
“Hidden gem at perfect central island location”
We spent the first part of our honeymoon in the lovely secret garden room. Waking up to the the beautiful garden every morning made it feel like we were sleeping in the middle of our own tropical jungle. The suite is very modern and had everything we needed and you cant beat the price. Carol was a great host and wealth of information being a long time resident of Kauai. We will definitely stay here again!
I was fortunate enough to live on Kauai 30 years ago. It was during that time that I met Carol and Les and discovered the secret Garden room. I have been going back and staying there almost every year since. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it is just staying in the garden room. It is always immaculate, no bugs, very high-end touches in the bedroom and bathroom and shower. Your hosts LES and Carol are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life, they truly give you the spirit of a aloha when you stay with them. Outside the room is a beautiful Koi pond with the little waterfall that you can hear it night. Beyond that there is a huge yard that is like visiting a botanical garden. If you want somewhere to completely check out and relax, Kauai and the secret Garden room are the place to go!
My wife and I have stayed with Carol & Les a number of times. We first booked the Secret Garden Room after attending a conference on Oahu. We'd heard Kauai was the Garden Isle. A couple years later, we both got jobs in Hawaii and "locals" tend to take vacations inner-island and so we returned many times to Kauai (our favorite) and to the Garden Room. Very well located near the airport in the high country mountains, we found everything we needed for a most comfortable and relaxing stay. It rains most every morning in the high country, right about as you are waking up and the sound out our open door was so full of aloha. It puts a special feel in the air that refreshes you for the whole day! We'd sit out our door over the pond and plan our day. The gardens continually beckon you to walk around and enjoy the variety, art, and the sweet little stream on the edge of the property. Carol and Les have provided fins, snorkels, masks, cooler, etc., for two and Kauai awaits. Your first time, spring for an island tour on a helicopter; you won't regret it! When next we return, you can bet we'll be staying at the Secret Garden Room! Aloha
Coming from a chilly Canadian winter to this amazing paradise in the hills of Kauai was beyond description. Carol and Les are the perfect hosts and in fact my wife is quite convinced that she knew Carol in another life, so this felt like coming back home. Their house, pretty and unassuming on the outside is utterly spectacular on the inside, and the stunning gardens and creek behind the house was a real retreat from the world. One could sit out here all day listening to the birds, the waterfalls in the fish ponds and the music of the creek, and just write or draw or simply meditate. We went exploring one day and came across a Buddhist temple right nearby that we absolutely fell in love with. Not that we are buddhists but the people at the temple welcome guests to visit their amazing facility, and it is beautiful indeed. Another day we went to a cocoa growing farm. Plus the beaches, mountain hikes, great restaurants... What an environment Kauai is, and in their charming, open, friendly way Les and Carol welcome people to enjoy paradise. Truly a blessing, really really wonderful, and one of our favourite holidays ever.
“Cozy and clean comfort, lovely and safe, with a private entrance”
Having stayed several times here, I can recommend the Secret Garden Room very highly. Carol and Les are the best hosts, giving you travel tips, the run of the lovely backyard, a perfect parking spot right in front of the house, and a private little side path to one of your entrances. The koi in the pond outside the glass door are great fun to watch from the little bridge across the pond or from your chair outside. The location is perfect, within a mature neighborhood just a few miles from the beach. Nearby are fabulous hiking vistas, a gorgeous hindu temple with guided tours, and the road to everywhere around Kauai. This is a very happy and convenient place! Your hosts supply your basic needs as well as beach and snorkeling gear, Dvd's and cable, guidebooks and other informational and recreational books, and even let you use the washer and dryer right outside your third door!
“A true Hawaiian Garden & True Hawaiian "Aloha" spirit as well!!!”
Carol was the best hostess. Any needs, any questions or suggestions, she was always ready to provide answers We enjoyed a tour by her husband of their family Hawaiian farm/orchard. We enjoyed seeing and sampling just about every kind of fruit/nut known to the S. Pacific. That was not part of the deal. I think because we were so enthusiastic about the Hawaiian lifestyle that he decided to invite us to see and experience. The guest room was spotless and bed very comfortable. There was not a lot of extra space to spread out into except the tiny lanai porch in front of the Koi pond, but what better place! right in front of the garden focal point. The room was designed with a tiny kitchen area and Carol supplied us with fruits and goodies daily. We needed nothing. Their entire back yard was a beautiful professionally designed garden with some lawn spaces as well. We spent hours sitting, reading, enjoying the views, birds, geckos, insects, etc. The only negatives (we visited in august, the warmest month of the year) was the fact that the tiny lanai porch faced the west so during that time of day as the sun dropped to that side of the house heat gain into the guest room through the floor to ceiling glass paneled windows/doors was more than the blinds and ceiling fan could overcome. Be touring elsewhere during those few hours of day. Their home is at about 1000' elevation (just above where the big waterfalls drop from) so it is somewhat cooler than on the beach. Also, as in all of Hawaii where the breezes are not constant there are mosquitos to deal with. They will sneak up on you if not prepared. Sleeping open to the night with only the screens closed was a joy. The night sounds, the mood lighting, the sound of the waterfall, the night critters and the coolness lulled us to a comfortable sleep. We stayed 2 or 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. We highly recommend it.
Travellers have no idea what awaits them as they pull up to an ordinary house on a suburban street. You wend your way down the side of the house and enter the most magnificent private garden we have ever seen. Koi swim beside a dripping mossy fountain; orchids bloom in the trees; exotic plants await your camera as you move through the complex and plant-filled back yard. The icing on the cake is the beautifully furnished suite looking out on this marvellous garden. A basket of fruit awaited us and although breakfast was not included, Les brought us freshly baked muffins and newly laid eggs. All the appliances you could ever want are available in the small kitchen. The suite is decorated with an artist's eye - even the shower door has ferns etched into the glass. Wifi and laundry are available as well in this secret hideaway. For something different, it's worth a look at the Secret Garden Room. The drive up from the main highway allows you to stop and take a look at one of the best and most accessible waterfalls on Kauai.
