“Beautiful house - amazing holiday!”
We spent 5 days on a family holiday in Casa del Piloto (3 children aged 16 - 22 and dog). The house is luxurious. It has been beautifully renovated from a stone cottage on the edge of a small village with highest quality furnishings, a modern kitchen, a log fire and even a pool table. The gardens are stunning and an old church rises from behind the trees and shrubs like something from the Jungle Book - but it was well behaved and the bells stayed quiet! The house is surrounded by forest with trails to walk in and a river runs close by at the bottom of the hill, the bubbling water augmented by bird call. A small supermarket a 10 minute walk away supplied all our needs. Close by were some of the most stunning, and deserted, beaches we have seen (and we have travelled the world) - without the usual 'no perros' signs that fence beaches elsewhere in Spain. Rupert met us on arrival and, with Maria, made sure we were comfortable and the pool was full (we were first visitors of the season), and their beach recommendations were spot on. There is nothing to find fault with - we were even blessed with sun the whole time. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend a visit for a relaxing break in a gorgeous part of Spain.
“An idyllic place if you are in need of rest and relaxation”
We received a warm welcome from the owner, Rupert Wakefield who was there to greet us and show us everything about the house that we needed to know.As soon as we walked in the door we were bowled over - the old house has been renovated to a very high standard but still maintains the ambience of an old Spanish farmhouse. The garden was a haven of peace and privacy with an excellent swimming pool which we enjoyed. The village itself had everything we required and was within easy walking distance.we ate out in the local restaurant several times. the food was excellent and we were made most welcome. We found the local Galicians extremely friendly. We enjoyed the slow pace of life in that beautiful rural area and being from a farm ourselves were fascinated by the traditional agricultural methods which are still common in Galicia but have died out in Scotland. We had rented a car so we were able to see a bit of Galicia the highlight being our trip to Cape Finisterre.
“A perfect summer holiday”
I am a bit reluctant to let everyone know how wonderful our stay at casa de roo was this summer... before we have agreed on a pre-emptive rental right with Maria & Rupert for the next years! We had spent a perfect summer holiday at this house with two families (5 kids altogether, age 3-8) and we all loved it. The setting is beautiful, the Galician landscapes are extremely scenic (and luckily unspoiled by mass tourism), the beaches just perfect - only atlantic waters being a bit too cold. We thoroughly enjoyed a good mixture of hiking, lazy beach life and beachcombing, reading in the beautiful garden, playing in the pool, barbecuing, discovering Santiago, Noia and Muros etc. The weather was perfect during our entire two week vacation - but apparently we were also very lucky as it had just changed from rain to blue skies and sun. And people in Galicia and in the village of Roo were all very friendly and hospitable. Maria and Rupert are very helpful and attentive hosts who made many good recommendations and also helped us when our daughter got sick and needed medical care. We will definitely be back!
“Wonderful villa; fabulous stay”
A beautiful villa - very stylish while also peaceful and relaxed. The kids loved the pool and running around the garden, while mum and dad enjoyed the fabulous view.
“A great place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful views”
Our stay was one of the most enjoyable breaks we have spent with our young children. Fantatstic scenary, a stones throw to get to quiet sandy beaches and plenty for the kids to do, particularly enjoyed the horse riding. Everything you want in a vacation if you are looking for a stress free get away from it all holiday!
