“Breathtaking Five Star!!”
Casa Colibri is gorgeous!! Spacious rooms! Incredible views of Lake Atitlan! Our stay was unforgettable! From Carmen & Rachel preparing our amazing meals, to Alicia's body massage, to Miguel's private boat tour of the villages around the lake, to Ronnie, the houseman, taking care of whatever was needed. David was there, as well, to answer any question, and fulfill any need. Highly recommended!! Fantastic Stay! :)
“What a beautiful home!”
I stayed at Casa Colibri for a week with my husband, three children (7, 10 & 12), and parents. The property is every bit as gorgeous as it appears in the photos/video. The home is located just outside of Santa Catarina Palopo, which to my mind is one of the nicest communities to be based in on the Lake. It is sufficiently close to Panajechel that procuring groceries, wine or hitting the pharmacy is no trouble, but far from the madding crowd. The staff was wonderful- Angela is a fantastic chef, and very accommodating with my children, going so far as to involving them in making fresh ravioli. Lukas accompanied us on two day trips by private lancha, and added much to our experience with his charming personality and knowledge of the various towns. It was easy to organize day trips- we did several, including the afore-mentioned trips by lancha to several lakeside communities, a hike up Volcan San Pedro (only for the very fit- not sure I'd do it again!), a visit to the atitlan Reserve, and a trip to Chichicastenango. In every case these activities were easy to plan and well organized. Two things to consider: the staff does not speak english with the exception of Daniel, the concierge. I do not think this would be a problem for non-spanish speakers, as Daniel is always just a phone call away and happy to take care of any arrangements. The other consideration is that the house is up a very steep path that not all vehicles can manage. We did not find this a problem as it was easy to arrange for Brian to come with his truck to bring us up or down the hill, sitting in the back of the flat bed (or one could walk). My children enjoyed this quite a bit! All in all, a wonderful stay. Genuine luxury and absolutely fantastic value given the quality of the property, singular beauty of the Lake, and the service provided.
Hi David and Daniel. Well, what can I say that hasn't been said 100 times before!! From my vantage point, Casa Colibri was a gem of a place to return to after wonderful, fascinating days exploring the varied Lake atitlan villages. It is comfortable, convenient, fantastically decorated, and in general a feast, inside and out, for the eyes!! The ambience created every evening by Lucas with the fireplace and candles, was much appreciated. The happy, cheerful staff, Carmen, Lucas and angela, added to the comfort. Angela's cooking could not have been improved upon; therefore her colorful, tasty and nutritious dinners were enjoyed 6 times during the stay. The large variety of menus she offered made it easy and fun to pick menus. I think my personal favorite was the Risotto, though everything was delicioso! We also certainly enjoyed the fantastic massages by alicia, as we had her two times during our 9 day stay!! Several other things that put Casa Colibri above other vacation rentals: the flawless arrangements with helpful Santos for the short rides to and from the villages of Santa Catarina and Panajachel as well as the van arrangements to Lake atitlan and upon our departure, to the airport, the clean surroundings, endless hot water, a great variety of English language TV channels, the quiet, peaceful location and, of course, the view! David, you were most patient and extraordinarily helpful to me through almost 9 months of endless email questions - and you addressed each one quickly - and accurately! I knew we were in good hands when we arrived at Casa Colibri! I'm sure my friends (the other 3 Intrepid Divas) will send you their personal thoughts as well. As for me, are 6 ***s acceptable??
“Casa Colibrí - the perfect place to visit Lake atitlán”
Casa Colibrí in Santa Catarina Palopó was the perfect place for our visit to Lake atitlán and the surrounding villages. The casa is beautifully decorated with Guatemalan decor; four of the five bedrooms have lake views; it comes with a housekeeper who make breakfast and an houseman to take care of the overall experience. We were very pleased with our cook, Angela, who we hired for six meals during our stay as well as the masseuse, Alicia who we hired for two massages. After busy days visiting villages, it was always a pleasure to return to our Casa Colibrí. David, the owner, offered all the amenities that were greatly appreciated. ¡Perfecto! “Beautiful home to stay...”
What a beautiful home to stay... We loved it!! We were a family of 12, we had unforgettable memories as a family. We will be back next time we travel to Guatemala for sure. Angela y Lucas were amazing helping us with everything we needed, the food exceptional! David was great too!! From day one he helped us with directions how to get there, met with us to follow him to the house and always alert of anything we needed. Thank you for your great service and make our stay so easy and smooth
“Beautiful home with amazing views; great for larger groups”
We just stayed at Casa Colibri with a group of 10 people, and had a fantastic time. I would **highly** recommend hiring angela to prepare meals at the house; the food was absolutely delicious and restaurant-quality, and it was very convenient to have meals there. My family is all wishing we could have brought angela home with us. Lucas was also wonderful and very attentive to our needs, and David (the owner of the house) went the extra mile to arrange for a birthday cake, decorations, and a pinata for my daughter's 16th birthday which fell on the last day of our trip. She was very excited to have a real Guatemalan fiesta! The attention David paid to arranging for my daughter's fiesta was typical of my entire experience arranging for our trip with him. He was great to communicate with before our arrival, and he made several phone calls on our behalf to take care of our activities and driving arrangements while we were there. He is an excellent host, and I truly appreciated his assistance as we had various needs arise. The only negative thing I might mention was that was that the electricity in the whole area was out for a portion of our stay so we had to utilize candles for lighting (as did all of the houses/hotels around us). Fortunately, the water was heated by natural gas, so we were able to shower without issues. Some of the activities we would recommend were the cooking class, the spearfishing trip, and the ziplining which was a don't-miss activity. The house's location was convenient for coming and going from Pana for shopping, activities, etc. We look forward to returning to Guatemala and our next stay at Casa Colibri. It's an amazing house, and we'd definitely recommend staying there.
“It was a great place to relax, lots of options for daytrips.”
Amazing panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains from every room in the house; even the shower! The rooftop deck and hammocks were an ideal place to sip local coffee and plan your trip for the day, or to watch the sunset and unwind from the day's adventures.
I cannot say enough about our experience in this rental on Lake atitlan. It is by far the best location on the lake with gorgeous sunsets, amazing accommodations and an extremely knowledgeable owner that goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable and EZ. I would go back in a minute with friends or family.
