“Fantastic House with the Wow Factor!”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2015

Stayed at South Wing with my extended family. On arrival, we were blown away by how grand the house is. We felt very lucky to be staying in such a beautiful house with its high ceilings and wood panelled walls. There was plenty of room for the children to run around without disturbing the adults. We found the kitchen to be well equipped. The garden was breathtaking and we were fortunate to have good weather so we could enjoy croquet on the lawn. The location is excellent and it only took a few minutes to walk into the village of Hunmanby and a short car journey to the beach at Reighton Sands or Hunmanby Gap if you prefer. We particularly enjoyed spending time in the stunning Drawing room. I would have given this property 5 stars. However, there were just a couple of things that need addressing. We are quite a musical family and were disappointed to find that several keys on the baby grand piano kept sticking. The shower in the second ensuite bedroom was extremely small so it was very difficult to move around in and finally the barbecue needed a good clean before we could use it. However, these are just minor points and did not detract in any way from a wonderful, memorable stay at South Wing.

Response from the owner Hi Aysh41, thanks very much for taking the time to write a review and delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. Thanks also for the heads up on the piano and the bbq. I'll make sure we give the piano some tlc - we do keep it tuned but its obviously in need of some attention. Great to hear you had bbq weather as the gardens are so lovely in the sunshine and the nearby beaches as you will have seen are spectacular! Hope to see you back at South Wing in the future.

“An idilic weekend gathering”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2015

This is our 2nd visit to The South Wing and again we were not disappointed. The last time we stayed was in-between Xmas & New Year and it was truly magical. This time it was just as wonderful but a completely different experience, as we were able to spend a lot of time outdoors soaking up the sun and the beautiful views. As ever the property was immaculate and every need accomodated for. Andrew is extemely helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

Response from the owner Great to hear you enjoyed your stay! Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review, its always good to hear our guests experiences. As you have seen for yourself South Wing is an excellent all year holiday venue with large comfortable rooms inside and lovely gardens to enjoy when the sun shines. We hope to see you back soon!

“Most amazing rental property I've ever stayed in”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2015

A group of female friends stayed at South Wing in May and what a wonderful weekend we had. The pictures of the property do not do it justice - partly because the rooms are all so huge you can't take a good photo inside them! This is a stunning house, beautiful decorated, fabulously equipped and in a lovely location. The bedrooms are all spacious, light and airy with good storage and very comfy beds. The bathrooms are also really nice, very clean and enough of them to never have to queue even when there is a large group of you! The living space is off-the-scale - massive and yet homely. The 'small' tv lounge is a brilliant family room with lots of technology (TV, satellite tv, sound bar, etc etc) and in fact every room has docking stations and music systems, The dining room is a great size and quite grand, while the formal lounge is the biggest room I think I've ever ben in. Even with 12 of us we were lost in there. The kitchen is very well equipped - the only thing we couldn't find was a small non-stick saucepan - plenty of everything and great appliances. The outside of South Wing is beautiful - expansive lawns, places to explore, plenty of chairs and places to sit, lots of 'outdoor' equipment that can be used. Final mentions that you are just ten minutes drive from Filey, 15 from Scarborough and the cute village of Hunmanby is a couple of minutes troll down the driveway. So all in all a fabulous place to stay. Ssshhhh, don't tell too many people!!

Response from the owner Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review and for your lovely comments. It's great to hear you enjoyed your stay and hopefully we'll see you back at South Wing in the future.

“Fantastic 80th birthday celebrations”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

We stayed at South View for the Bank holiday weekend, a family celebration of my Dad's 80th birthday. We enjoyed cooking and serving some great meals in the fabulous dining room, doing a jigsaw on the table in the lounge, playing cricket, rounders and croquet on the lawn and all in all, having a wonderful family weekend. We were a mixed group ranging from 21 to 80 and the owner was happy for us to invite a few extra family members for afternoon tea on Sunday. Communication with the owner was very easy and he answered every question quickly. Highly recommend you try it.

Response from the owner Thanks very much for taking the time to post a review which I really appreciate. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay and it sounds like you made good use of this lovely house and the grounds. I'll weed out those chipped bowls next time I am there and thanks for the heads up! Hope to see you back at South Wing in the future

“Fabulous weekend in the most amazing house”

Reviewed 18 May 2015

From my initial enquiry through to leaving on the Monday morning, it was all so 'easy'. No problems, no need for questions, no clarification of anything, Andrew has absolutely everything covered. When we arrived, the house looked very unassuming but once inside we ran around like schoolchildren, with excitement. The rooms are huge which was ideal for a group of 10, the kitchen was perfect and large enough for too many cooks to get involved in the preparation of the meals and the large lounge is bright, airy and just beautiful. The location of the house is ideal for either a quiet weekend playing games on the lawn or venturing out to nearby Scarborough, Bridlington or Filey and I have to say that the butchers in Hunmanby is outstanding. Liked best ... EVERYTHING Liked least .... LEAVING I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Response from the owner Hi Jo, great to hear you enjoyed your stay and thanks very much for taking the time to post a review. May is a lovely time of year to visit the area and the gardens at South Wing really look great just now as well. I know the feeling about not wanting to leave - I'm the same when I stay there with my family! Thanks again Andrew

“A fantastic house, a great location”

Reviewed 8 May 2015

We booked the South Wing as it appeared large enough to accommodate the whole family (10 adults and 3 children) for my fathers 80th birthday celebrations. We were not disappointed with the South Wing's accommodation, grounds and location (just a 5 minute walk into Hunmanby village centre). The South Wing's facilities were very well appointed, from the fresh bedding, clean bath and tea towels to satellite TV and multiple iPod docking stations. The large dining table meant that we could all be seated together at meal times to enjoy jointly cooked meals. A real pleasure and would certainly book again.

Response from the owner Hi David, thank you for taking the time to post this review. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay and I hope your father had a very happy birthday! Hope to see you again soon. Andrew

“Fantastic house! Perfect for group/family gatherings.”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2015

A group of us (10 adults and 12 children) stayed at South Wing to celebrate a birthday in January 2015. The house was immaculately kept and very beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the utensils needed to cook for a large number and the garden was HUGE (much to the delight of the kids)! The property is within easy reach of the seaside and easy to navigate to. A truly fantastic weekend, enjoyed by all and I would not hesitate in recommending this property to any large group looking for a getaway.

This is around the 6th time I have stayed in this amazing house and it almost feels like a second home. The room sizes are very generous and comfortable, a huge garden perfect for children to run around in, a well stocked kitchen to test your culinary skills and plenty of books and board games in there to help on rainy days. The house is in easy reach of Filey, Scarborough and Whitby if you want to go a little further for the day. Would highly recommend this property to anyone considering booking it.

“Cath & Ian's Special Anniversary”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2014

We have just returned from another wonderful weekend at South Wing, Hunmanby. It is the perfect venue for a family get together. We were celebrating a special wedding anniversary and we all had a wonderful time. Our party numbered fifteen with ages from three to sixty seven and we ALL enjoyed the weekend. None of us ventured further than the village shop, we made the most of this lovely house. The young ones enjoyed the garden and played football until the light failed each day and the adults relaxed in the house and the garden - especially the hot tub which we were able to hire from a local firm. We were only able to do this because of the kindness and cooperation of Andrew the owner, he really does go the extra mile to make sure his guests enjoy their stay. This house is in a stunning situation and is well equipped. Lots of games for the children to play with during the evenings in the "Toy Room" and the "Drawing Room" is spacious enough for the adults to relax in easily. We are all looking forward to our next stay.

“Beautiful house and surroundings offering fantastic value for money”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at South Wing, which is a very spacious, comfortable and warm house with its own grounds and views. Wi-Fi and Sky were both provided - very necessary when you have young teenagers with devices! We appreciated the two lounges and well stocked kitchen with very large fridge & freezer. Only a 5 minute walk to the village and a 5 minute drive to great beaches. Also, most importantly, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the high quality bed linen much appreciated. Thank You!
