“Fantastic place, the memories will live on!”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

My husband and I stayed at this historic, beautifully renovated Ein Kerem cottage during the first week of July, and we just loved it. The cottage is airy, spacious and clean, well furnished, and is on a hillside below Mt. Herzl, overlooking and a short walk to the ancient town square. The cottage is tucked into a private, quiet road on the mountain, but is an easy walk into town and its wonderful collection of restaurants and artisan shops. The main bedroom has a queen size bed with a great mattress and quality pillows, which makes for a good night's sleep. The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The cottage opens to a beautiful front porch where we took breakfast each morning. When we arrived, the kitchen was stocked with coffee, tea, a bottle of wine, cookies, milk, yogurt, granola, dried fruit and nuts, and a large bowl filled with peaches, plums and mangoes. The kitchen is fully equipped, and has a stove, oven, full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans, etc -- all the things we needed to make a nice dinner with food we picked up at Machaneh Yehudah, the shuk that is on the light rail ride home from the Old City. The owners, Yona and Moshko, were warm and helpful, gave us a map of Ein Kerem and helped us understand what the town offers, and the convenient bus and light rail system that goes from a spot near the cottage into the Old City (about a half hour ride). Yona showed us, in addition to the touring highlights of the town, the walking paths and hiking trails, and Ein Kerem really is a walker and hiker's paradise, even in the summer when the morning and evening hours offer cooler temperatures. We highly recommend it and consider this spot a destination-rental any time we make a visit to Jerusalem. We have rented places throughout Italy and in Israel as well, and the Ein Kerem cottage is one of the places we have enjoyed the most.

“Excellent & Fabulous.”

Normally I stay in hotels in Israel but, I found a holiday cottage in Ein Kerem, what a beautiful place, the location was sublime, and the cottage was perfect. The owner's brilliant. The location of the cottage is excellent overlooking the village, and the valley of Ein Kerem. The views are stunning, especially the Church of John the Baptist, a beautiful historical building, just one of many beautiful buildings. The cottage has been totally renovated to a high standard and is fully equipped, but still retains its original charm and beauty, it's very spacious and spotlessly clean, it has a balcony that runs the length of the cottage which was excellent for outdoor dinning. The owners were wonderful, we arrived to find Yona had filled the place with fresh fruits, dried fruits, juice, yogurt biscuits, milk, different coffees, a selection of teas, cereal, nuts, and a lovely bottle of wine, which was more than welcoming after a long journey. Yona, Moshko, and their family looked after us so well, we felt like part of the family, they took us to many different places, and also to meet many different people, people we would never had got to meet otherwise, it was an amazing time, spent with amazing people. We can't thank them enough. Ein Kerem is a historical beautiful place; it is nestled at the bottom of Mount Orah in the Judean Mountains, and only a short bus ride away from the Old City. As for the village of Ein Kerem, John the Baptist was born here, it's a place of immense character, and offers many fascinating experiences, from the lovely stone houses, beautiful churches, and narrow alleyways, artists, art galleries and lovely restaurants. The inhabitants of the village are very welcoming, and very friendly, I think they have worked very hard over the years to preserve this lovely place. The Israeli government say Ein Kerem is the Jewel in Israel's crown, I couldn't agree more, we had a very special time, and it's excellent.

“jerusalem's hidden jewel”

there is so much i would like to share about my stay in ein kerem jerusalem israel! since i am not sure how long i can make this review i will highlight as much as i can. the location is the best! ein kerem is the hidden jewel of israel and this cottage is perfectly situated. it is close to old city yet in a very quiet neighborhood. it is easy access to the highway leading to all parts of israel. it is also very close to the airport. ein kerem itself is a unique community of artists and friendly people. there are homes belonging to artists that are open to the public! the cottage itself is not only unique and quaint and lovely it is perfectly situated with a patio and swinging chairs, table to eat on and a view of st. john the baptist church and the mountains. the kitchen is very well equipped and the living room spacious. the bedroom is great with very comfy beds and the bathroom is full with tub/shower. when we arrived yona and moshe had stocked the kitchen with delicious food: fresh granola, yogurt, dried fruit, fresh fruit, milk, coffee, bread, and cookies with a beautiful israeli wine. and is this is not wonderful enough the best is Yona and Moshe! they treated us like family and took us touring and to the market and spent hours with us not only showing us israel but answering our many questions :). this was my fifth trip to israel and i will never stay in any other place. you will love your stay!
