“The worst experience I've ever had while traveling.”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2014

First, I will list the positives and negatives then the overall review: Positives: Close to the beach, relatively safe, somewhat furnished, in driving distance to local market and laundry mat, Negatives: the couch bed is really uncomfortable, there rarely parking (see below for details), the Wi-Fi did not work during my entire stay (even after I asked to have it fixed), the owner expected to be able to dictate how I spent my vacation (see below for details), there are wild dogs and cats all around the neighborhood (me and my son were chased down the street by a wild dog and I had to pull some jedi tricks to get away from two huge German Shepherds. Narrative: The second day after I arrived, mid-day I received probably around 7 text messages, 3 calls and an email all of which were threats to charge me extra for using the air conditioner when I wasn't in the unit (even though me and my family were in the unit...after 12 hours of flight we all had jet lag as can be expected). Later that day I noticed the Wi-Fi was not working and inquired about it. Ana told me she would have the repair man fix it. I tried to connect daily but was not able to connect. The straw that broke the camels back was when I parked on the curb (city parking), she suggested that I find a way to park in front of her house (even though there was not enough room or was completely filled) or leave. I didn't take kind to the first threat, the second threat was enough for me (I booked 18 nights, one would think a little respect would go a long way..I received none). I elected to terminate the contract. When it was time to pay me for the days I did not stay she walked into the unit, directly to the blind and says "you broke the blinds" and demanded that I signed a written statement acknowledging that I damaged the blinds. I refused (because I didn't break the blinds). She refused to reimburse me and has about $500 that belongs to me which she welcomed the idea of settling the issue in court. If you choose to stay here, I would not do it long term (in case you have the same problems I experienced). Unfortunately, Ana wasn't nice to me or my family, she acted very vindictive/childish and worst of all she but a family with a 3 year old boy out over a parking spot. I will be back to puerto rico, but I definitely wont book here again. Buyer beware! Below are photos that I took of the place (clean just as I received it)

Response from the owner It's rare that none of my other guests have made a review talking about all the negative things that he does in this review... Unfortunately, I have to say that this review contain so much false information, that it's uncomfortable to go into all the details and defend myself as I really be able to do but I will point out the following things: AS I said before, It's rare that none of my other guests have made a review talking about all the negative things that he does, such as: 1) I robbed him money. But the transaction ID# of the $500 reimbursement I did made to him is 75Y850671H822693C and was made thru PayPal because he just decided to leave without signing the receipt. If anyone wants a proof I can send a copy (snap shot) as evidence. 2)He says that I called the police and that then threatened him to take him to court. Why will I do this? The truth is that it was him that threatened me of doing that. 3) He also says that the street is full of wild dogs when by my street you can see people everyday, even with kids, walking to the beach or to the Barbosa Park. 4) He says that he couldn't park in front of my property because there was not enough space. I have had 3 cars of guests parking in front of the house and there was only one car of another guest during his stay. He just wanted to park everyday in front of my neighbors house under the shade of my neighbor's tree, bumping out my neighbor to park in front of his own house. No courtesy at all! 5) He says that the internet never worked. The truth is that we had internet connection EVERYDAY and after he got the correct password he never informed me that he couldn't connect. I need internet to work everyday and my other guests never had problems to connect. 6) And he says other things that I have respectfully decide that I really won't care anymore and prefer to mention nice and important things such as On 2013 I received a Flipkey Award Winner as one of the Top Vacation Rental And the message from Flipkey said as follows: "You have earned this award based on your excellent reviews and quality listing". and the following year I received a Certificate of Excellence 2014 that you can see in the photos of my listings. I take this opportunity to thank all those travelers that have kept a friendly relationship with me and also to those that have stayed in my units more than once thru all these years! I encourage travelers to take the whole of a property's reviews into account when judging. I understand that if most other reviews are positive, travelers are likely to see a negative one, as a mere aberration. Puerto Rico is a beautiful Island; come to PR and enjoy!

“Studio a stones throw from San Juan”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2014

To all that care to find a budget friendly, clean, safe, and conveniently located head quarters for an excellent vacation; look no further than ani's place. The beach is an incredibly short walk away and there are plenty of places to eat, drink, and be merry near by. It's a 15 minute bus ride to old San Juan which we found to be cheap and quite convenient. The tourism area of Condado is an leisurely stroll down the beach as well.

Response from the owner hunter and Kelley were very nice guest here in the studio unit. They are welcome anytime again. Thank you for the review!

“Cozy, clean, safe, convenient”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2014

We loved ana's studio! It was clean and comfortable and we felt quite cozy and safe the whole time. It's in a great location too. The beach is just a few short blocks away, and it's a cinch to catch the bus or trolley on McCleary to head to Old San Juan or wherever you want to go. An easy walk to the grocery store, where we stocked up to save money on eating out. The kitchen was adequately equipped for minimal cooking and coffee making. The shower was warm and had good pressure. We never turned on the aC. The only downside is that the street noise tends to funnel into the studio. We discovered a small fan above the door on our last night and that did a great job of drowning out other sounds. Don't get me wrong, it's not like there were street parties or tons of bass thumping all night long - just your typical neighborhood noise like car alarms and music. Bring earplugs if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your nice review and for letting know that we are located in a safe area and near to beach and all different kinds of stores. And for those who are very sensitive to outside noises, well you gave them the solution, "turn on the small fan on top of the door". Nice persons: welcome back!

“Just the vacation we needed!”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2014

I visited Puerto Rico for the first time with my boyfriend this past MLK weekend in January. We stayed in ani's studio unit. It was everything we needed for a "home base": a nice clean bathroom, a comfortable futon, a cute little kitchen. Ani was very accessible and was kind enough to spend some time orienting us to our surroundings the first day we arrived. There was ample parking space for the rental car. The beach was a short walk away. The area is very safe and ani's property is behind a lock and gate as well. We can't wait to return and would highly recommend ani's properties to anyone.

Response from the owner Thank you for your great review; it was brief but just to the point of what people need to know. And thank you for pointing out that we are located in a very safe area and also that our property is gated. Welcome back!

“Our Christmas Vacation down memory lane”

Reviewed 2 Feb 2014

My husband and I stayed at annie's place and were very surprised of the cleanliness and comfortable this studio room is. It had everything and more, although we were never there as we are from the Island and spent our days visiting Puerto Rico, it has everything you need. The price was excellent, a few miles away is El Condado and Old San Juan. Annie is a wonderful host. she give us all the great places to eat and boy were they wonderful. We will be staying there the next time we return to the island. Thank you annie for a great experience! Adelina and Jose

Response from the owner Thank you Adelina and Jose for such great review. I will never forget this couple because she was very entertaining person. She did not even let Jose rest a little more when he felt a little bit sick. She just said, well here are the medicine, drink them and lets go that we are in vacations and we didn't come here to sleep. Took him all around the island. Well, he is a lucky man, lol!!! Very nice and respectful persons; always welcome back.

“Great Place, Great Location”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2014

Went for a weeks vacation alone to visit family. Ana was very nice and helpful. The room was the perfect size in a quiet area. The futon bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is awesome very nicely updated. Parking is on the side of the road but never had an issue with finding a spot. The beach is a short walk down the road. Definitely would stay there again.

Response from the owner Thank you, thank you, thank you! Welcome back; the days are beautiful now in the summer to be at the beach.

“Wonderful Getaway Location”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2013

We recently stayed in ani's studio apartment. It was very comfortable, clean, extremely affordable and only a few blocks from the beach. I would recommend renting a car to be able to fully explore this beautiful island. One of the best parts of the vacation was just talking with ani and her neighbor Kevin. They were extremely hospitable, friendly, and helpful. We hope to return one day and the first place we will look is ani's apartments!

Response from the owner Thank you very much Lindsey and Jared for your review. I told my neighbor that you guys mention him in the review and he was very happy. Nice to know you had a good time here and welcome back but next time bring your sons, they will have a blast going to the beach, the Rainforest and all different places you already know and can take them!

“Affordable Lodging in San Juan for the Budget Traveler”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

If you are looking for more cost effective way to stay in San Juan, this is probably as good as it gets! Ana's studio is located near Ocean Park, a beach area where most of the locals will gravitate towards if that's what you prefer--I did. (If you want to hang out with more tourists, check out Isla Verde area, Condado, or Old San Juan). One plus for me in renting an apartment over a hotel is having the opportunity to cook some of your own meals. Ana's studio has a full kitchen with pots/pans, so you can save by not having to eat out every meal, which can add up quickly in the San Juan area. If luxury is your thing, go with the hotel experience. If you don't plan on hanging out much and wasting time in your room, Ana's studio would be a great option for you. Ana is fair on her prices and lives on the top floor in separate apartment unit so you can usually find her if needed. I highly recommend renting a car if you want to tour the island. You will save big by not having to pay for tours, cab rides, etc. while having the freedom to things at your leisure, not on a pre-determined schedule. Must see's include: Culebra Island (though it can be difficult to get out there), La Cueva del Indio in arecibo, El Yunque Rain Forest. I didn't make it to Vieques Island but heard it's a close second to Culebra.

Response from the owner Thank you Shane for your review, I really appreciate it. Culebra has one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the WORLD and its called Flamenco Beach! So lots of people like to visit the island including the locals. During July Culebra is visited very much not only by the tourist but also by the locals that have a lot of holidays and vacations. And if you want to secure a ticket on the ferry of 9am for sure you should be there at 6am or earlier. Now during August you can get there at 7am and for sure you will be able to get a ticket. I went during August and got there after 7am and was able to buy a ticket. You can also go to Culebra in plane but it wil cost you more. Plane tickets from Fajardo to Culebra its around $50 and from San Juan to Culebra around $100; in ferry right now its only like $4 but government already announced that its going up around the $15 each way. $4- $6 to go to Culebra is really to cheap, so even $15 worth it. It s more packed during the weekends, so going during the week , could be a good idea if you want to avoid not being able to buy a ticket. Come back again!

“Close to Beach - Clean - Extremely nice host.”

Reviewed 5 May 2013

I recently stayed 6 nights in the studio. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the unit and the surrounding property. The beach is just a short walk away. The host ani is very accommodating and helpful. The area is all residential and away from crowds. However it is close enough to get to get to any other the tourists area either by bus or taxi, or if you're up to walking as I am, very easily. For me the studio was perfect. However if I was staying with another person I would definitely take the 1 bedroom.

Response from the owner Thank you Diego for your review. I ordered a expandable router but the person sent me a belkin router!!!! So I'm going to return it because I ordered the Netgear NR300. I want the one you used here that already was proofed that works perfectly. Thanks to you other guests we'll be able to connect perfectly inside the studio unit without having to go outside the unit.
