“Ozijoya, Kyoto Machiya”
We were extremely happy with Ojizoya and would strongly consider staying there again! It was extremely cozy, very well located and the support staff were most helpful. I like to run and the river front was a 4min jog from the Machiya... Not only for running but also to take a serene walk it was ideal. Gion district, Sanjo shopping district, museums and Shrines are all very walkable with some great sightseeing along the way. I strongly recommend Ojizoya and its representatives.
“A Great Month in Kyoto”
We stayed for 4 weeks in Nov/Dec and the place felt like a home away from home. The house was reasonably well located for some the main sites and handy for most of the main bus routes allowing good access to the more remote sites. It is also close to a Taxi Rank. We were seeking suitable accommodation for an extended stay in Kyoto and found that the house met our needs perfectly. It was as advertised on the website, was clean and well maintained and the owners were helpful answering questions or addressing concerns. It was a great experience to stay in a traditional Kyoto house to get the full cultural experience of being in Japan. We also enjoyed the experience of living in a residential and interacting with the locals and shopping in the local shops. We were very sad to leave at the end of our stay. We would highly recommend Ojizoya as a place to stay for those seeking a similar Japanese experience to ours.
“Excellent services and authentic accommodation”
Thank you to Wendy and staff of Window to Japan! We had a great time while staying in Ojizoya, Kyoto. The house is truly situated in the middle of residential area. We felt very comfortable staying there. The accommodation itself was great, we had no problem figuring out how things work, moreover, instruction was also provided. I would had rated this excellent except for the location of the house. It takes abit of patience to find the house with the map provided. Luckily our shuttle driver arranged by Wendy knows exactly where Ojizoya is located. We were saved trying to figure out the location by ourself. Ojizoya is located nearby to all subway and stores like 7-11 & Lawson and even walking distance to some attraction places. I would definitely recommend this place for my family and friends.
“Old World Charm”
Our family of 4 spent 3 nights in Ojizoya and enjoyed it very much. We felt the charm of an old, traditional Japanese house with its elegantly simple decor and functional design. We are a tall family, and although the entry area, stairway, and toilet area were a bit tight for us (my 6'6" husband did hit his noggin a few times), the main living room and the sleeping areas are large enough to be very comfortable and the shower room is spacious and easy to use. We did not need to use the kitchen much, other than the refrigerator. There is a convenience store a short walk away on the main road to the north where we got our breakfast bento boxes. I would not recommend this house for people with children under about 6 nor would it be good for someone with mobility issues. We also booked two tours with Windows on Japan, and our guide Emi was very knowledgable, friendly and accommodating. I recommend this company without hesitation.
“Easy and comfortable time with family in Kyoto”
We stayed five nights and liked the apartment very much. Location was good, in very quiet area but only few minutes walk to railway (two different stations), not long from the main railway station either. Many restaurants quite near, also easy to cook yourself (as well as washing loundry). Info about Kyoto and the apartment available for the guests, wi-fi worked good. Staff was easy to contact and was very helpful, so I would gladly recommend this apartment.
“Authentic Japanese experience”
Wendy and her crew were polite and prompt in answering our queries and the booking was done smoothly. The house was as advertised, very traditional and well maintained, with modern fixtures. It's a great way to live as the locals do. We appreciate the many spare adapters in the house as we had many gadgets to charge each day and the strong Wi-Fi is a dream. The house is a short walk to 2 train stations along the Keihan line, very convenient for exploring the Higashimya side of Kyoto. Many convenient stores nearby and friendly neighbors too! The only cons are probably the lack of a tv (even if we don't understand Japanese, it'll be interesting to learn more about the culture) and how dark the alley leading to house can get when we return late at night.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. It is well appointed, and in a good location - a bit difficult to find, but once you're there, you'll never forget it. the hosts provide lots of information about seeing Kyoto. Soon after arrived, we found that the toilet was not working properly, but it was fixed very quickly - no problems. Staying here really made our visit to Kyoto a better experience.
“Quiet and Quaint. A relaxing week in Kyoto.”
Ojizoya: offering so much for the money. The house itself is beautiful inside and out. It offers a very authentic living arrangement for any stay in Kyoto. Ojizoya is located in a slow paced residential district. It is a great location for visiting the eastern side of the city. It is not "centrally" located, but Kyoto is large and offers so many attractions that being centrally located isn't necessarily beneficial. Many sights and restaurants are only a short walk away. Other locations can be reached by using Kyoto's marvelous public transit system avi, the owner is very helpful, and he has designed Ojizoya for the benefit of foreigners. I would stay here again if I could get the opportunity.
“A week in Kyoto”
My wife, 2 children (teenagers) and I spent a week in Kyoto starting the end of June 2010. Rather than staying in a hotel, we rented this traditional Japanese home (called Ojizoya). It was a wonderful way to stay in Kyoto, as it is an authentic machiya and is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood. From the rental home, we could easily walk to the bus stop, train station, many tourist sites, shops and restaurants. The house is small, but it includes all the necessary things one needs for a short stay in Japan.
“Excellent Stay at Ojizoya”
Our stay at Ojizoya was extremely pleasant, the house is very conveniently located within walking distance from Kyoto's main sights and very close to excellent public transportation. The house itself was very comfortable, fitted with everything we could need and spotlessly clean. Avi and Wendy were excellent with their help. Highly recommended.
