“4th visit - says it all”

Reviewed 25 May 2013

love the cottage, the position, easy access to anywhere on the mainland and peace an quiet. The previous comment makes reference to bad TV reception - that has been rectified (or I had no problem with it). The wild life is amazing. Been watching a single otter all week in front of the house, and on Friday morning it had a play mate - a large dog otter. Hopefully lots of little otters next year!!! While watching the two otters, also spotted minke whale off Flotta. Jess the collie, has terrorised the resident hares and pheasants

“Fantastic Holiday”

Reviewed 20 May 2013

Had an amazing time in Orkney, The cottage was everything we could ask for, spacious, clean and all the comforts of home. Only slight downside was the TV reception wasn't wonderful, but the views and scenery made up for that. We look forward to finding the time to return.

Response from the owner Good News ! We now have a fixed aerial in the loft, fitted in April, so hopefully the TV reception will now be good. Jim

“Cosy, restful and reassuringly eco-friendly”

Findlay's cottage was the best possible base for a week in the lovely (but often wet and cold) Orkneys. The house was warm, cosy and spectacularly situated, so we were happy to spend evenings there cooking up a storm; it also had a friendly "lived-in" feel about it, rather than the anonymity of a holiday rental. We spent every day travelling to a different island and were overwhelmed by the richness of historicaland archaeological remains and the bleak splendour of the landscape. A highlight was visiting the Italian chapel to find there was a mass being held for descendants of the prisoners-of-war who built it - a special moment in a peaceful place that already invites spiritual contemplation. Top marks to the Halcro Johnstons too for the power-generating windmill - we were very impressed by that commitment to the environment. There's certainly no shortage of wind!

“Warm, comfortable and with a fabulous view.”

Have stayed at Findlays Cottage a number of times and always find it well kept and comfortable. Caretaker very nice and helpful. Wonderful views and ideally placed for exploring Orkney.

“A great cottage and a perfect view”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2012

We found the cottage to be peaceful, comfortable, clean and warm. The cottage has a fantastic view to enjoy in all weathers and it is an ideal location to explore the rest of Orkney from. A lot of maps and leaflets on all the varied places to visit had been thoughtfully provided too. There is so much to see in Orkney that we will return to Findlay's cottage another time to see the rest.

“Great cottage”

Really enjoyed our stay here with our dogs. Everything we needed, good location from which to explore.

“relaxing and inspiring”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2012

Very homely decoration and well-equipped cottage. Was easy to relax and use the cottage as a nice place to come home after a day out. Location on the west mainland of Orkney is very convenient for exploring the mainland. Close to the sea. Felt like a home.

“A wondeful comfortable week in Orkney”

Lovely warm comfortable cottage with fabulous views over the floe. Orkney is a wonderful relaxing spiritual place, lots to see with tranquility uf you want it and lots of ancient history. Trips to the other Isles are reccomended. Lots of really fine craftsmen & women.

“Relaxing, comfortable, well equipped house - and what a view!”

This property was easy to book, James was very helpful and sent all the information we could need (although it would save you considerable work and cost to email the info rather than post!). The house contained all we could need and the contact person on the island was very helpful. The house was very clean and tidy. The view was amazing, and it was so nice and quiet. Thanks for a great family holiday - just too short!

“Beautiful views and comfortable cottage!”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2011

The cottage is set in a peaceful location with uninterrupted views across Scapa Flow and the Hoy hills. The sea is literally only a stones through away. Sunsets and sunrises are amazing! There's always a warm welcome on arrival and the cottage is spacious and comfortable. An ideal place to relax and unwind. We love the place and will be going again in a couple of month's time. Part of me doesn't want to tell anyone about it and keep it our secret, but I'll have to share!
