“Incredible view and a magical experience”
The apartment is perfectly located in the Old City of Cartagena a few steps of Santo Domingo Church and the historical wall. It's close to the best restaurants and stores of the City, as well as the historical buildings and churches. The apartment is very well distributed in three levels; the first with the kitchen, dining room, living room, and a beautiful balcony where you can see the people pass in horse-pulled chariots; in the second one you find three bedrooms and a TV hall; but the best feature of the townhouse is the terrace in the last level. It has a breathtaking view of the sea, the new city, and the dome of the Santo Domingo Church. The apartment offers a very confortable stay and the experience of discovering the historical Cartagena for the inside.
“Home away from home”
This location is perfection! My boyfriend and I traveled with another couple for a destination wedding in Cartagena and this apartment was an excellent choice for the 4 of us. The apartment itself was spacious, clean and comfortable. As other reviewers have noted, the first floor consists of the kitchen, dining room and living room. Be careful of the stairs (I hit my head on the steps more than once!) The second floor has another small living room with a TV connected to cable along with the 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The bedrooms are the only rooms that have an a/c unit, but the rooms cool off quickly. The third floor is the terrace with the gorgeous view of the wall and the ocean. Additionally, the apartment comes with an Ozarka water filtration system so we bought water bottles and refilled those - nice little perk. The only thing that would have made this apartment even better would have been a pool... Sandra was very informative and responded to all of my emails promptly. We did not utilize the housekeeper Margelis as we were part of a much larger group and had activities scheduled for us on most of the days. Upon arrive to the apartment Margelis was there to greet us and give us a tour of the place. The security guards were very friendly and made a point to know us and smile and say hello when we walked in and out of the property. Never once did I feel unsafe while staying in the apartment or in the city in general. I would most definitely recommend the apartment to my friends and family!
We could not have asked for a better vacation. Upon arrival to the townhouse we were greeted at the front entrance by the security guard (24hr. security) and Margelis (the house keeper). The apartment felt like home. I didn't want to travel all the way to Colombia from California and stay at an american hotel, I wanted the true experience. The townhouse looked exactly the same as the pictures listed (maybe even better), it was clean, well maintained, had pots/pans, cups, utensils, washing machine, and an unbelievable view. The decor was authentic and the windows opened up to a balcony, where I had my morning coffee. We were centrally located and could walk to any place within the walled city without having to take a cab! The apartment had three floors with somewhat steep stairs, but we were all able to get used to them quickly, including my 5 and 9 year old. The rooms had excellent air conditioners which were nice after the hot days in Cartagena. I had never stayed anywhere but a hotel prior to this and Sandra made it so simple. I could always call or email her and she would respond promptly. Margelis, the house keeper is amazing. She made us breakfast and lunch, cleaned, and did some laundry. I would give her a list of food and she would go buy it or sometimes I would go shopping with her. There is also a lady right outside the building that begins making and selling breakfast at 6 am (arepas, chorizo, maduro). We ate there twice and were very satisfied. I cannot wait to go back and stay here again. We always felt safe and everyone was so friendly. All the positive reviews convinced me to stay here and I am so glad I did!
“Perfect location with a perfect view”
My wife, two young children (ages 4 and 3), and I recently spent 4 nights at this property. Here's a summary of our experience: location The apartment was a short, 10-minute drive from the airport. The cab driver gladly accepted USD since we did not have any pesos. (Average cost in pesos would have been 15,000). The apartment overlooks the old city wall and the Caribbean Sea and is perfectly positioned for watching the sun set. Most of the old city's historic plazas and churches were less than five blocks away. Taxis and horse-drawn carriages are readily available outside the apartment complex, and the Cafe del Mar bar is situated on the old city wall just across the street. There is also a mini-mart and a larger grocery store within walking distance. Taxis will take you anywhere within a neighborhood for 5000 pesos (about $3 us) and between neighborhoods for 6000 pesos. Cleanliness March, we learned, is part of the windy season in Cartagena. Winds would usually kick up in the mid- to late-afternoon, which brought relief from the 90-degree heat but also a lot of dust to the apartment. We couldn't walk from one side of the bed to the other without our feet becoming black. The salty, humid air has taken its toll on many of the appliances--the washer, dvd player, tv, etc, were all rusted. The countertops, microwave, sinks and showers were sort of clean, though a bit greasy. Comfort The apartment was the perfect size for our family. The master bedroom is connected by an arched doorway to one of the other bedrooms, which gave us a chance to keep an eye on our young children at night. Be advised: the spiral staircase has sharp drop-offs, so it's best to keep an eye on young children. Other things to be aware of You can and should bargain for almost everything in town (and even in some most tourist shops). You can easily pay 50% of the asking price. Stand firm and don't give in or your reputation will spread to other vendors as an easy target.
“Ocean view, very pleasant, centric”
Centrally located, secure, comfortable modern condo with a beautiful ocean view in old Cartagena. Walking distance to museums, old city, shopping.
“Very comfortable, enjoyable, great location”
The location is superb! You are right there in the Historic District but you have this stunning ocean view from the terrace, over the old city wall, which I imagine is rare in the old city. Within a minute you are walking down narrow city streets; everything you need is within walking distance. There are plenty of restaurants and pretty much every place we went to was either good or excellent. There is also a great supermarket, I think it's called Exit, about 10 min walk from the apartment - and it's a beautiful walk, right on the top of the city wall. We went there once to stock up on some basics and fruits (granadilla was one fruit I absolutely loved). There are plenty of taxis by the supermarket so that you don't have to carry bags on the way home. There is also another small supermarket in the old city close by. On two other occasions the housekeeper did grocery shopping and cooked Colombian meals for us, that was awesome! She didn't speak English and none of us really spoke Spanish but we were able to work out the list of things to buy as well as the menu. The apartment is clean and comfortable, everything is thought of, including a water cooler in the kitchen. The bedrooms on the second level are very quiet and have advanced a/C units, beds are comfortable and there is plenty of closet space. We made sure to be at our rooftop terrace before 6pm almost every night to watch magnificent sunsets and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze. We went to the beach in Boca Grande area of the city once but it was just a narrow overcrowded strip of sand next to a busy traffic street and overshadowed by high-rises. All other days we took a taxi (10-15 min ride) in the opposite direction, to much better beaches. The taxis seem to be always available right outside the condominium security gate and they are really cheap. The apartment owner, Sandra, was easy to talk to and was very helpful answering our many questions. I definitely recommend this charming place to everyone!
“So good experience!!!”
The apartment is very comfortable, the decor recalls the tradition of the area. It is a place to relax and take the Sun. If you can more fun, you can find some of the best restaurants on the city. You can also get to know the culture of the region and around the city without worrying about it is safe.
“Comfortable and Convenient”
I've been to Cartagena 8 times since 2005. I've stayed in hotels and private apartments in neighborhoods from Crespo to Boca Grande. Sandra's apartment is the nicest and most comfortable place I've stayed in all my travels to Colombia. It is a comfortable and well-appointed apartment with everything you will need whether you are staying one night or one week. We did not use the daily services of the maid, but she was friendly and would have cooked for us if we'd needed her to. The bedrooms are spacious enough and cool, and the main shower has hot water, which can be hard to find in rental units on the coast. The rooftop patio is wonderful. From there we enjoyed our morning coffee while watching local fisherman spear-fish for red snapper, and evening conversation while watching all the tourists (we were there during Semana Santa) walk up and down the colonial walls. Whether you want to shop for tourist souvenirs in Los Bovedas, find one-of-a-kind designer clothes or jewelry from the boutiques, eat at any number of restaurants, or visit museums and tour the colonial churches, all of the major sites inside the old city are within a few blocks and can be walked to very easily from the apartment. It's location is also very convenient if you need to catch a cab to other parts of the city. Sandra's rates are very reasonable, when compared to area hotels and to similarly sized rental units. Elderly people, people with physical disabilities, or families with small children should be aware that the spiral staircase from the main floor to the bedrooms, and from the bedrooms to the patio, is a bit steep.
“Relaxation with a great view!”
Our stay at this townhouse was a highlight of our trip to Colombia. The living rooms are spacious and commodious, but the best spot was the rooftop garden and outdoor shower. While all the other tourists went to cafe del mare we climbed to the roof with our guacamole y cervezas and watched the sunset. While my family slept in one morning i sat on the terrace with my coffee and book luxuriating. Taxis were always downstairs, so our excursions to playa Blanca and our departure to the airport were easy and cheap. It was also nice to be in a place where people live rather than in a hotel. I have no hesitation recommending this place for your visit to Cartagena.
“Wonderful place in a wonderful city”
Wonderful place with a lovely rooftop terrace. Excellent location in an old condominium, very close to the centre of the old city. Very spacious living room, kitchen with all amenities, tree comfortable bedrooms and two very nice bathrooms. Housekeeper at disposition, cleans the place for you and can make you a homecooked meal, which we enjoyed several times. Highly recommended
