“Amazing place on the big island”
When we first arrived at south kona coffee we immediately fell in love with the place. There is a welcome sign that had our names on it. It's very touching and make us feel so special. and then Brad showed up and led us to the cottage. There are two cottages with it own private bathroom and shared out door kitchen. We stayed at the Dolphin cottage,it was very clean, very comfortable bed and screened windows allowed us to have plenty of air. There is a large refrigerator, flat screen TV,toaster, microwave, coffee maker and French press. The Fruit plate, kona coffee, macadamia nuts were so delicious and much appreciated. Especially, their kona coffee was the best I've ever had!!! We loved all the nature sound, view of the sunset, friendly green geckos, fruit trees surround us and we also enjoyed hiking on the lava flow near by the property. Brad was a great host full of information on the island. This place is about 45 minutes to an hour drive from Kona airport. It's far enough from a tourists crowded and yet close enough to the most beautiful beaches and about halfway to volcano national park. Thank you so much Brad for your hospitality and all of your tips on places to explore were great. We couldn't asked for a better host on our one week vacation. You have made our 10 years Anniversary very special and unforgettable. We will be back and stay here again.
“Nice Hideaway south of Captain Cook”
This was our 1st stay at the SKC plantation in one of the short-term rental cabins near the highway. Cabin (or upscale cabana structure) was clean and comfortable. Our king-sized bed felt great at the end of the day. The room had large screened windows on one side with rattan shades that you could lower at night. Entry door is a sliding door which we kept closed so mosquitoes didn't wander in. On the wall to the left of the door was a small refrigerator, and shelving above with a microwave, coffee maker & French press. *Excellent* fruit (mangoes, apple bananas, papaya) was provided on a plate when we arrived in the room, plus a welcome sign! The bathroom next door was very roomy, clean and had fancy ceramic tiling all over walls/floor. Macadamia nuts (excellent) and a nutcracker was on the railing outside. The outdoor kitchen was clean, easy to use, and well-stocked with everything we needed, and we used it almost every night, grilling swordfish that we picked up at a local market. Brad was careful to place long-burn mosquito coils around the buildings and walkways day and night, so we had very little problems with the insects. He was also friendly and generous with information and advice about the area, especially local beaches and markets. He brought additional fruit to us when asked. We never met Linda, but then we were out and about most of the time. We'd return again, but probably for the long-term rentals since those buildings have much more of a view of the horizon and sky (the short-term rentals were down in the surrounding foliage with little view; I'm an amateur astronomer, so prefer the open-sky). We enjoyed watching all of the geckoes on the railing and near the kitchen. Property is very steep down from the short-term rentals, so we only explored the grounds one time. The only issue we had with the rental was the lack of hot water for showers or cleaning up in the kitchen (boiled water on the stove to help with cleanup). We sometimes had hot water for a few seconds, and then it turned cold again. Left Brad a note to check on that. On the nearby beaches, especially for snorkling at Ho'okena and Two Step (near the Place of Refuge): get there early in the morning (best before 8:00am) before it gets crowded and limited parking space disappears. Ho'okena has very warm outdoor showers on one side of the parking lot for rinse-off.
“Amazing place off the beaten path”
South Kona Cofee Our stay at South Kona Coffee Estate&Retreat was spectacular. We were greeted by a welcoming personal sign and the owner Brad showed us around his property- what an amazing place it is! Sitting at a comfortable 1000ft of elevation in south Captain Cook, the climate is just perfect. Upon our arrival, there were fresh papayas and freshly grounded Kona coffee (which is, by the way, the best coffee we ever had) that Brad and his wife Linda grow everywhere on their property. We are not very demanding people when it comes to accommodation, but the cottage was more than what we hoped for- a very comfortable bed, French press for our morning coffee, microwave and small fridge were all there. The separate outdoor shower is awesome- with no glass but screens in windows, you can hear birds and other animals singing while you take a shower. The shared kitchen (with only one other cottage) has everything too- gas grill, necessary utensils, drinking water jug and table to sit and relax while preparing food. Although the island of Hawaii is really big (hence the name), we found South Kona Coffee estate to be a good starting point for most of our destinations. Please don’t miss some of the greatest places on this planet while staying here- hiking in Volcanoes National Park, diving in Honaunau Bay, kayaking through Kealakekua Bay, stargazing at Mauna Kea, exploring the Kohala region, soul searching in Waipi’o Valley, hiking in desert-like south, enjoying the beauty of Pololu Valley were all life-changing experiences for us. Pair it with some of the most delicious food we ever tasted, amazing local people that always treat you like you were their best friend and the almost unable to describe in words feeling of belonging to the Earth and you cannot call this island other than paradise. Thanks to Brad&Linda and their unique place, we enjoyed it all fully and with great deal of joy. If you are up to experiencing Big Island with all its natural beauty, far from the artificial feel of resorts and fancy stores, South Kona Coffeee Estate&Retreat offers a great starting point for your journey One more thing I forgot to add- the geckos on and around the cottage are our new favorite animals- please say hello to “kumpel”, a friendly gecko who watched us while we slept, if you decide to book with Brad&Linda Many thanks Marcin&Kamila
“Private, homey, cozy, relaxed island retreat with the island's b”
South Kona Coffee Estate and Retreat is a little known island gem. We stayed 2 weeks for our wedding and honeymoon. Capt. Brad is a licensed minister and helped us arrange every detail of our wedding and even married us. Brad and his lovely wife Linda were such wonderful hosts we felt like family. Brad is an encyclopedia of knowledge of the islands history and culture and steered us to all the right places. Their passion for hospitality was evident from our first email and throughout every day of our stay. The cabanas are private, cozy, clean and so comfortable. It is truly a authentic and romantic island experience. We booked a 2 week stay for next year before we even left. We have never had a such a great vacation experience or a better value. Aloha
so relaxing! perfect getaway with laid-back atmosphere. great central location, halfway between volcano national park and kailua-kona. brad and family were so welcoming and friendly! Fresh fruits and nuts abound on the property for your enjoyment. Coffee was the bomb! Can't wait to go back!
“Relaxing, secluded get a way”
Beautiful and relaxing place. Cabin had one of the most comfortable beds we ever slept on. Brad and Linda wonderful hosts and have a little bit of heaven with this place. After full day of exploring the island was nice to come back to a quiet, relaxing place and not a hotel room. Well equipped outside kitchen area. It is a bit far to get to town but that made it more enjoyable for us. Hopefully we can visit again. Highly recommended!
“Wedding and Honeymoon Escape”
Our two week stay at South Kona Coffee Estate was unforgettable. The views from our lodging overlooking the west shore from 1000' above were unsurpassed. Everything we could possibly need was provided by our very friendly and personable staff. The location is amazing for snorkeling beach trips sightseeing and a relaxed and secluded getaway!
“Native Coffee, Fruit and Mac Nuts surrounding your cabin”
The moment you drove past the gates of this property, you felt like you were in a botanical garden. The cabin is surrounded by various type of trees and plants. The smell of real plumeria blossoms was usually wafting through the area. The cabin and bath/shower are screen enclosed areas, because who needs a/c. The nearest store is about 15min away, but that was never a problem if you already run around and explore. The description, Secluded Tropical Hideaway on Coffee Farm, is accurate. Brad was very nice and I appreciated some of his stories. The cabin hold two comfortably. I would definitely recommend.
“A magical nature experience, eating fruits off the land, and sle”
We arrived and were greeted by a personalized welcome sign. The smell of incense and the candlelit path directed us to our hideaway. Birdsong invited us in, as did a delicious fruit tray complete with freshly ground Kona Coffee from Brad and Linda's Estate. This coffee spoiled us forever. Coffee on the mainland just doesn't compare with the Kona we enjoyed each morning. We ventured forth each day to discover new vistas and take off for adventures on Big Island. We looked forward to our return to the softest most comfortable bed, another cup of Kona coffee, and cracking our own macadamia nuts as an evening treat. I never knew what a treat these nuts were. The garden of nature's bounty surrounded us and provided us with a new respect for the land, it's gifts, and the simplicity life offers.
“Peaceful getaway from the everyday hubbub”
Brad and Linda are extraordinary hosts!!! Not only did they provide beautiful accommodations (the bed is the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on!) but also helped to coordinate the most intimate wedding we could possibly imagine! We were blown away by the level of detail that was paid by these two, from the flowers on our honeymoon suite steps, to the bottle of champagne and candles lit everywhere. Our wedding night was everything we could have wished for! As was our ceremony at Honaunau beach. Brad was an amazing minister and our service was one that will never be forgotten. Brad is very knowledgeable when it comes to everything on the Big Island! If you're looking for something outside the norm, this is the place to stay. You will be away from the crowds and mental stress that comes with the touristy spots. This is the place to go if you want to see the real Hawaii.
