“wonderful holiday”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2015

Apartment very bright, clean, spacious, very comfortable and fully equipped. Very close to the castle, and Pubs, supermarkets and shops in the Old Town. We were really good!

“Convenient and spacious”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2014

You need to be fit to stay in this apartment which is on the fourth floor - but it is spacious and beautifully kept and in a very convenient position. it is near all the places you want to see and we found it very quiet, well fitted-out and comfortable.

“Relaxing stay in the heart of Edinburgh”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2014

My wife and I had an extended stay in this apartment. Facilities were excellent and it felt like a home away from home with everything we needed in close walking distance. Generally quiet considering how close it is to the Grassmarket and other entertainment venues (we really enjoyed Traverse Theatre, Timberyard and Lovecrumbs - very close). Short walk up the hill to the Royal Mile. Supermarket and Castle Terrace Farmer's Market perfectly located too. Particularly well-equipped and spacious kitchen, lovely little window view of the castle, warm and cosy. Managers easy to communicate with and enthusiastic to ensure everything was perfect for our stay. Quite a few steps to the apartment, but there are steps all over Edinburgh - part of the charm! We would definitely stay here again.

Response from the manager We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed all the facilities of this apartment. We particularly like the Farmer's Market. And, yes, there are some great restaurants and theatres just a few blocks away. Martin, Vacation Rentals Scotland

“Good location”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2013

The convenience to many sites, pubs and restaurants is really the key to this flat. It was great to be so close to so many of the parts of Edinburgh that we wanted to see. It is a large apartment with all appliances that you'd need. I will say, however, that the pictures did make it look bit more shined up than it actually was. I found the bathroom to be particularly difficult to manage in and the shower was just short of clean. Also, we found it difficult to keep water from running out onto the floor. The view of the castle is not quite what we imagined - you have to be sitting down right in front of the window to see it and while we got the impression the balconies looked onto the castle (never stated, just assumed), they in fact look onto a parking lot. While I could recommend this flat, I suggest that you keep in mind that it's a bit more worn than the pictures suggest and the scenic view is only from directly in front of the front window and between the buildings across the street. We had very high expectations, so found ourselves to be let down a bit, but overall it did work for us while we were in Edinburgh. Also, don't forget the stairs - four stories up to get to the apartment. We knew full well, so didn't mind them, but after walking around the city all day, had to find that final push of energy to get up them. Other reviews had mentioned the entrance to the flat which did have some moldy, stinky carpet. I expect the apartment owner may not have control of this, but it could stand some attention. And finally, I was surprised that the instructions for leaving included cleaning and vacuuming. This was a first for us. Four stars is actually a bit more than I wanted to give, but three didn't seem right either. 3.5 is my vote - slightly better than average, but not great.

Response from the manager Dear Melissa Thanks for your detailed review. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the very central location of the apartment, but sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the views. I have reviewed the listing to check that the descriptions are accurate so that, for example, guests know that the balconies for the bedroom and kitchen are quietly located to the rear of the building, and that there is a partial view of Edinburgh Castle from the apartment. We have noted the areas that you felt needed more attention from the cleaner. As you mention, the stairs to the 4th floor are often a challenge at the end of a long day. Because of the historic nature of Edinburgh buildings, most of the 19th century apartments do not have lifts installed because of practical or planning restrictions, so unfortunately this is an aspect that we cannot improve for this apartment. “Bright, wide and comfortable apartment in a central position”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

Bright, wide and comfortable apartment in a central position, near Castle, Royal Mile and museum. Market (Sainsbury's) and Pubs nearby. Mind that is a 4th floor without lift. Air bed for 3th and 4th guest is not a great solution (a bed sofa should be better).

“Comfortable, Secure, Convenient”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2013

Comfortable, roomy flat, all rooms on the same level, in a complex that seems secure with multiple locks, camera surveillance. Sainsbury grocery is less than a block away while the Castle overlooks the apartment. Almost all the most popular attractions are within walking distance with a bus stop across the street. The only negative is four flights of stairs without a lift.

“Well-appointed apartment in the old town of Edinburgh”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

Equipment was great, also the aerobed was okay for some days. Easy check-in, the keys were sent per post and at our depart we put them in the letterbox. The location is great, we visited the whole town by feet. Sainsbury's (supermarket) is round the corner. Enjoy the farmer market at castle terrace (just round the corner) at Saturdays! For little children or older people the stairs might not be suitable. There is no lift.

“Clean, bright, mordern and great location!!”

Reviewed 10 May 2013

Just got back from Edignburgh and had a great stay in this flat. The owner has been very helpful, prompt to answer questions. Yes, you have to climb many stairs to get to the flat, but the natural light that flows through 3 skylights on the roof and brighten up the whole place make it all worthwhile. The flat is clean and modern with fast wifi and close to many attractions. There is a supermarket less than one block away.

“apartaments for couple”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

Everything was perfect. Location in the center of Edinburg, not far away from castle. A supermarket in a 200 m on the same street. The door to apartments not very reliable. On the first day of our staying we were sleeping after night flight. When we woke up the door was opened. We afraid that somebody came in apartments but everything was OK, just a wind.

Response from the manager Sorry to hear that you got a fright from the wind opening the door. The front door has a Yale lock and a mortise lock, and it's best to make sure the mortise key is turned at night for added security. Thanks for pointing this out to us: I have updated the guest information so that future guests will be aware. Best regards Martin Vacation Rentals Scotland

“Cosy and bright.”

Reviewed 27 Feb 2013

Booking made very easy by helpful agent. The flat is bright and extremely well equipped. We were there in very cold weather and it was very east to keep warm. A great location for getting about Edinburgh and handy shops nearby. The location is the best feature and the only downside is the number of steps if you are older.
