“nice little gite”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2013

The equipment of the holiday house was simple but enough , the price is ok. We like that house and the location at Marcilhac is very good. For the livingroom we missed armchairs.

“C'EST Magnifique !”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2013

We knew of this stunning gite through Lillian Bell (a personal friend who used to manage out "Le Barn" gite near Bio). Service from her was superb. We could hardly think of a more comfortable and picturesque home from home had we tried. Décor and amenities very much to our taste. books great, music great, church bells great (!!), bed a little tight (!). This must be one of the most friendly and untouristy villages in the area with so much right on the doorstep. Delicious food, lovely wines, cosy little restaurants right in the village and on the river, local "characters" - you name it, Marcilhac has it. Bird life in the courtyard kept us entertained every late afternoon and evening. Great canoeing down the river, fabulous walks, mighty cliffs to admire. I'm running out of adjectives. Suffice to say we are recommending it to all our friends in South africa. We cannot think of anything we liked "least".

“Lovely spot in a beautiful part of the world”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2013

We had a wonderful time here. The gite is well-appointed, charming and comfortable and the setting is beautiful. The location made a great spot for exploring the area (Pech Merle, Figeac and Rocomadour are all easy driving distance) and it was pleasure just to hang around Marcilhac and hike or canoe. The music and book selection was exceptional, with handy maps and guidebooks plus some classics about the area. Wifi has to be paid for at the Post Office (and cellphone service is best at the town square) but it's a very short walk there. Having Madame's "tasting menu" and watching village life at Café des Touristes is a must. It was a pleasure to stay here (thanks to Lillian for the arrangements).

“A cozy, comfortable base from which to explore this beautiful ar”

All our dealings with Lillian Bell and Laurence were a pleasure.Prompt and informative responses to all our E-Mail queries. The Gite was perfect. Well appointed, tastefully decorated and perfectly located for exploring this stunningly beautiful area of France. The village shop was well stocked and with Carjac only 15 kilometers with it,s Saturday market we could buy everything we needed. Madam,s Restuarant Turisto in the village was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed her fabulous home cooking on more than one occasion! As a senior couple two things could be improved on. The pathway from the lane to the Gite could be improved to enable one to wheel a heavy suitcase to the gate.We had to carry them in one by one. The only other thing was the bed. It is wedged almost wall to wall in the alcove next to the bathroom making it extremely difficult to get in and out of and to make the bed in the mornings was a mission! As South africans the Madiba table cloth made us fell quite at home.Marcilhac is also easily accessible by car from Brive where Europcar and avis have offices 50 meters away from the train station.

“Wonderful little gite in a peaceful, beautiful village in a trul”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

Comfortable and homely with modern facilities and a great gareden, the gite is a stones throw from the picturesque river Cele and the all essential boulangerie. Great base for exploring the area by car but also lots of walks from the door and a couple of great cafe/restaurants in the village if you don't fancy driving.

“A perfect retreat for couples”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2012

A lovely, comfortable, clean and well equipt gite in the beautiful village of marcilhac-sur-cele. Situated in the heart of the village, this gite feels remote and private and is a great base in which to discover the local area. All one could want from a home from home. The gite itself is tastefully decorated with modern furnishings and some great quirky features! The private walled garden has a delightful outside dining area and it a wonderful place to lay on the loungers and watch the stars come out. The best thing about this littel gite was the view of the iconic cliff faces and the sound of the local church village bells. The poeple in the village are so friendly and the night market is an absolute must - especially when they have live bands. We are sure to return!

“Peaceful, well-equipped / renovated and lovely location”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2012

Perfect for a relaxing break in the Cele Valley. Nicely renovated, peaceful garden with cliff views and only a few metres from the river. All basic amenities on the doorstep. Excellent local market Tuesday evenings. Abbey a real plus and some lovely walks. Highly recommended.

“Lovely little Gite”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2012

My wife and I spent a week in the Quercy Stone Gite whilst we explored the region. It was a lovely little place just suitable for two people. A week is just long enough as comfey seating is limited and there is no wi-fi (contrary to the advice). However, access is fine once you've located it, it is very peacful and the privacy is perfect. The village of Marcilhac-Sur-Cele is welcoming and a lovely place to stay.

Response from the owner Thank you for your generous comments about the Gite. As indicated on the website, wifi and internet is available only at the Post Office in Marcilhac.

“Lovely stay in Marcilhac”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2012

We couldn't have had a better stay and it rained nearly every day. The cottage was comfy. All the equipment worked. The bakery was a lovely walk around the block and the bread was a-1, so were the croissants. The two restaurants were very nice. The older couple running the "tourist" restaurant were straight our of a movie. Loving and functioning like a well-oiled machine. The other place had a great evening meal for a very reasonable price. High lights? No american tourists (did I really say that?). A really great cave with prehistoric painting 20 minutes away. Lovely scenes at every turn of the road. One beautiful village after another. And the cliffs!!! They rise straight above you. At times you drive through them.

“Idyllic honeymoon in Marcilhac.”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2011

We had an amazing stay at the Gite and thoroughly enjoyed the region. I can't imagine a better option for those looking to explore the Lot River Valley. We stayed just before tourist season began, and so avoided long lines and crowds but still had the sunshine. We almost didn't come home. Thanks to Lillian for being ever so accommodating. Cheers.
