“Tuscan Bliss”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2013

The details on the internet looked promising but the reality was much better. Beautiful traditional Tuscan villa furnished as a private home and not a rental, large and luxurious accommodations. Tranquil and serene beautiful gardens and a stunning swimming pool. Tuscan views and great food. Staff and owner support discrete and very helpful. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for the real Tuscan experience.

“Perfect Tuscan Home”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2013

Where to begin? Alessandra's home in Lucca is, in a word, perfect. The house is a beautiful old structure filled with exquisite details and touches. Although the house is quite large, it seems to shrink around you and quickly becomes a part of you, as if you've been visiting for years. Although the home is quite old, it has been renovated and updated to suite all the needs of the contemporary traveler. Our family particularly enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, with its beautiful old table quickly becoming the center for a bevy of family activities. All of the rooms, including the bedrooms, are quite grand in scale, offering plenty of space and storage. The property, situated atop a hill, provides beautiful views of the valley below - the pictures on the website simply do not do the view justice. As spectacular as the house is, the pool just might be even more spectacular. Measuring over 80' in length, the pool is stunning. It is easily the most beautiful pool we have ever seen. Add to this the fact that the pool area receives unobstructed sun for the entire afternoon, and one can make a compelling argument for just staying home all day. We found alessandra's recommendations for dining to be spot on. We had particularly good meals at Vipore, La Buca di Sant'Antonio, and Ristorante Giglio. This is a truly special property, and anyone fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit will undoubtedly agree.

“A Magical Place”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

The Bell Estate is the perfect place to base a trip to Tuscany. The magnificence of the house and grounds are well captured by all the excellent prior reviews. We, family and friends (age range 4-68), spent a week in the middle of august and had no concerns with either heat or mosquitoes; the stone house stays cool even during mid-day with the breeze and all beds have mosquito netting. Alessandra, the owner and her sister Sonia who lives next door run a very professional business. What is not captured in prior reviews is that Sonia is a fine cook and will either bring a home cooked Tuscan dinner to the house or cook on site and provide lessons. Sonia is a lovely person and I recommend that you take her up on this offer. Also, if you like to cook, which we do, the local shopping including separate butcher and fish market are close and convenient. The kitchen is well equipped and the marble kitchen table serves well in rolling out fresh pasta. Open a bottle of local wine, dine outside and bask in the fact that you found this gem.

“Our Tuscany Dream”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2013

If you have seen the movie Under the Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane then you will be able to picture the beautiful 100 year old Belle'Estate Villa. It is situated up in the hills overlooking beautiful Tuscany and only a ten minute drive from fabulous Lucca. The villa has 5 large bedrooms with great views of the environs. The kitchen and dining area are fully equipped for preparing meals at home after a long day's outing. Then of course there is the fabulous pool, steps from the kitchen door. You are able to visit Pisa, San Gimignano, the beautiful beaches at Viareggio and of course, Cinque Terre; all day trips that end with a refreshing swim at the villa. I have always dreamt of visiting Tuscany with my family and this august, 2013, my dream came true!

“Unforgettable !”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2013

“the most wonderful setting and property you can imagine”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

We travel quite a lot, especially in Europe and know it well. In June we rented this villa about 6 km outside the walls of Lucca for our family of 8. In all our travels over 30 years we have never had such an exquisite accomodation in virtually every aspect. large rooms, high ceilings, wonderful light coming into all rooms. The little balcony on the second floor provides the most wonderful view of the Tuscan hills. Enormous pool and grounds around the villa. Lovely rooms on the first floor including a fully equipped kitchen and splendid dining room setting. We ate outdoors every night. The owner's sister lives just near the villa and does all the necessary welcoming introductions in English.

“Very nice stay in Bell Estate”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2013

If you are reading this review then you are considering staying in Lucca. Let me start by saying that you will not regret choosing Lucca over other Tuscan cities for a week stay. Florence is very beautiful but easily done on a day trip from this villa while you will keep wanting to go Lucca. We had a family of five (3 adults, 2 kids) and the villa was great for the family. As other reviewers have noted, the bedroom are large, the pool is very nice, the kitchen is more than adequate for any kind of cooking and the toaster is one of a kind (we used it the most during our stay). The grounds are large and my dad was able to complete his morning walk just going around the property. My wife and I were able to reach the river for a nice stroll in the evening and my daughter and my wife enjoyed a great afternoon with a cooking lesson just down the hill from the villa at Chef Paolo's restaurant. We ended up keeping the windows closed but the shutters open during the day as we liked the sun coming in and did not feel the need for aC at all. The house cooled down nicely during the evening. The adults escaped the mosquitoes but the kids got a few bites but nothing too bad. Alessandra and her sister Sonia made checkin/checkout very seamless and we had a great time in Lucca.

“Perfect Villa Stay in Tuscany near Lucca”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2012

This stunning, private villa is the setting for a perfect vacation in the Tuscany area. Located near Lucca on a hillside with other houses in the distance, there is plenty of space on approximately five acres to feel like you can simply relax and enjoy yourself. The house and grounds are magnificent with features to satisfy those who appreciate quality in a home, attention to detail, and a lovely garden. The living room, library, dining areas, and bedrooms are beautifully appointed and reflect the trust and care of the owners. Those seeking solitude will find what they are looking for here-a quiet spot outside in the garden or in the lovely living room or library. There is plenty of space for children to play on the grass or for friends and family to gather in the outdoor patio area. For the cook, the fully stocked kitchen is delightful. Choosing to eat at the kitchen table, at the beautifully appointed dining room, or outdoors makes dining a celebration! Choosing Tuscan wines to accompany a meal from shops in nearby Lucca adds another wonderful dimension to the trip. Bell' Estate has something for everyone. For the athlete or casual swimmer, the long, wide lap pool is ideal as is a nearby path along the river for walks, runs, and biking. For those who love history and culture, the home and property, nearby Lucca, and the hills of Tuscany provide ample grounds for study and exploration. The house and grounds are lovingly tended and reflect the grace and hospitality of the owners, who open their lovely home to guests like my friends and I. It was a wonderful vacation possible only because of the attention and care provided by the owners to make this experience so lovely.

“Unforgettable, very special experience!”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2012

My experience of staying in Bell'Estate was a mind changing one, the one that tought me to see the difference between a real jewel and a fake one. When we entered the gates and saw the house, I was a bit confused. It is not something you expect to see at a holiday villa. The house is very old, huge and stunning. It is a real piece of history. Inside and outside. It's like going back in time, really... It is real. You could see people living there more than a hundred years ago. You feel as if those people were your great grandparents. As if you are a part of it... And you learn to love the house, to care about it. The grounds of the villa are substantial. The pool is magnificent - very big, warm and with beautiful views. My kids (5, 3 and 1) loved playing with the stones, picking tomatoes from the small garden. The huge staircase that's in the house was no trouble at all for them. Another special aspect of the house is the people who look after it. Alessandra, the owner, was very helpful from the very beginning until the last minute of our stay. You will be delighted to see her brochure that tells you everything you need and even more. Cinzia, the cleaner, comes three times a week and does her job very professionally (which is hard to find in rental villas, talking from experience). And our gardener (who all of the women in our group fell in love with) came every morning to make sure the grounds and the swimming pool are perfect. We loved our time in Bell'Estate and hope to return one day.

“My Canadian counterparts”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2012

I am returning to alessandra's Spectacular properties in one week.It will be my third time.I have been anticipating this for 6 months.I have read the review from my Canadian counterpart...and it occurs to me that there are some people who even when they are lucky enough to be deposited in paradise, will look to find something to complain about.Truthfully,it astounds me ( I am a divorce lawyer and not easily astounded). Normally, when one sees pictures on the web,it will always appear more attractive than the reality. Her Magnificant properties are the exception.I won't go into detail other than to say that when you takes your breath away.Over and above that...the degree of care and attention that alessandra extends is heartwarming and second to none. I consider myself priviledged to have happened to cross her path four years ago. Robert Teitelbaum
