“Excellent location, clean, comfortable and well-maintained facil”
Our stay on board Janna will be remembered for the lovely welcoming and helpful assistance we got from the owner Coleta, who made our stay exceptionally pleasant. Janna offers simple comfort with modern, well maintained facilities. Located close to restaurants, shops and within easy access to the City Centre, Museums etc. less than 10 minutes by tram, we recommend this lovely Houseboat which is ideally suited for a holiday where you have choices of self-catering or eating out. We will definitely repeat the experience.
“Unique and fun experience!”
Staying on the Houseboat Janna for our first Christmas away from home in another country was an incredibly fun and unique experience for our family! The added holiday touches (Christmas tree and holiday decorations) by Coleta made our stay even more enjoyable. The food and special holiday treats Coleta left in the refrigerator were delicious and generous and so nice to have already there after arriving in jet lagged. We so enjoyed being able to have a leisurely and delicious breakfast on the houseboat every morning--the kitchen is completely adequate and we were even able to cook our Christmas dinner there. Coleta and Sage are the most friendly and gracious owners (we're sorry we didn't get to meet Stanley); she spent a lot of time with us on our arrival telling us about amsterdam. She is also very responsive with emails when booking. Houseboat Janna was very comfortable and roomy enough for our family of 4 which include 2 children, one older teenager and one in early 20's. We all loved everything about our stay and would love to return again someday to experience the amstel River in the spring or summer.
“The best place to stay in amsterdam, by far!!”
To be honest we were a little worried about staying on a houseboat in the depths of a Dutch winter but we were tired of staying in the rubbish and overpriced hotels that we always booked in the past. As soon as we arrived at the 'Janna' those worries went out of the window. We were greated with a warm and inviting 'home' for the weekend with all the extra touches to make our stay that bit more special. The fridge was filled with everything we could need for a couple of empty stomachs and there was coffee, tea and juice for the mornings. Maps were provided and the wonderful hosts Coleta, Stanley and Sage were full of ideas for things to do and places to go off the beaten track. We loved the mix of traditional Dutch with modern design in the interior of the boathouse and the location was perfectly situated - close enough to town but away from all the chaos of a big city. We will definitely be booking the Janna again and are looking forward to fitting in all the things we didn't get a chance to do this time.
“Absolutely cosy, relaxing with excellent hosts”
We were greeted very warmly on our arrival by our host Coleta , who showed us all the facilities on board Jana. Coleta and her family provided a positive and knowledgeable introduction to all that was available in amsterdam for our weeks stay . Jana was exactly as the photos and description stated . It was a great place to relax and feel totally at home after a busy day sight seeing . We were there in autumn and the boat was comfortably heated and the bed particularly cosy. Everything was clean ,functional and the fridge was stocked both abundantly and thoughtfully. This enabled us to settle in quickly and not waste any time getting out and about which was greatly appreciated on our first day (provisions also lasted several days.) We were able to walk to the local market and could easily walk to town , but of course the best option is hiring bikes which was relatively inexpensive and efficient. Coleta is extremely knowledgeable of local points of interest, culture and historical information. All the family were a delight to meet and certainly contributed the the appreciation of this beautiful city. We left after a week keen to return during another season.
Janna is a restored 100 year old barge on the amstel River in amsterdam. Coleta and Stanley have created a marvelous ambiance within the large space. The kitchen is modern, the space is large and the bedroom is wonderfully cozy and quiet. The bathroom has a large tub and shower..it is spotlessly clean. While there is a bit of traffic noise during the day, down below is quiet and at night it all calms down and one can luxuriate on the deck and watch the boats and birds drift by. Coleta speaks 7 languages, is very genial and can provide you with any information you need. Stanley is warm, humorous and challenged by their Chess Champion son, Sage, who won his age group as Dutch national champion. A large supermarket is about a block away, but even better is the enormous outdoor market, a leisurely 15 minute stroll down lovely streets. We especially liked the river location and had a fantastic meal at La Strada, an Italian restaurant across the river. Coleta generously stocked the refrigerator with goodies and the coffee was welcome. We were treated as guests, became friends and hope to return the generosity if they should ever venture over here again (Stanley worked 2 years in San Francisco before starting his own it firm in amsterdam). We hope to return and will definitely book Janna very early...this is the first year of operation for Janna after being refitted by Stanley and Coleta. Their personal barge is tied alongside. We expect the word to get out: Janna is a great place to stay!! Russ and Gael, Beaverton, Oregon, USa.
“lovely alternative to hotel”
The houseboat Janna is better than any hotel in amsterdam. I have stayed in some of the amsterdam hotels within the last years but the experience on the houseboat was wonderful. The Janna is clean and cosy and very comfortable. In the kitchen you find everything you'll need to prepare a meal. The Janna is like a little private house. In the summertime it is lovely to sit on the roof. Coletta is a friendly host who helps you to find the best spots in the City. It is a great alternative to a hotel.
“What a wonderful place to stay”
What a wonderful 4 nights we spent on the Janna. From the moment we arrived Coleta made us feel most welcome - showing us round the boat, providing a selection of goodies for breakfast, highlighting places of interest on the map in the entrance. Her partner Stanley and son Sage also took time out to set up the Wii for our children to play on in the evening. The boat is located on the amstel and it is a pleasant walk along the river and canals to the centre of amsterdam. We found it equipped for all we needed on our short break, was spotlessly clean and are looking forward to going back again in the not too distant future.
