“A great experience - recommended.”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2014

Having been to Samal many a time I wanted something different something private and peaceful unlike the available resorts. This private beach house was bliss. I got in contact with the owner who immediately referred me to her caretaker. Even though it was short notice they were able to accommodate us without any hassle. The house itself is very basic but frankly nothing short of what we were looking for. We only stayed for two nights but they were blissful and also entertaining. We were attended to by the couple and their 2 kids who wer wonderful at seeing to our requirements, including picking up our guests from the Ferry with their tricycle. Carol (caretaker) is also an excellent cook and had a glorious seafood birthday breakfast for me. Prepared from the catch caught on sight only hours before. We were also able to join the fishermen in assisting them in collecting the catch in their nets as the tide went out. The house has seen better days and maybe does require a bit of loving care to restore its natural charm. The beach was also nice but as the new caretakers had not moved in yet the sand had not been raked from the washed up seaweed and driftwood etc. but it was all natures waste no dirty or plastic bottle etc. So we didn't mind at all. All in all the house has most of one requires to be comfortable including aircon(extra cost) fridge proper shower (not just pale and bucket). I was fortunate to be there when the owner's brother was also on holiday in Samal and he was a very social informative person who is well traveled and certainly contributed to making our stay a more pleasant one. My opinion --- Well worth the money.

Response from the owner Thanks very much for your review and your productive feedbacks. That way, we strive hard to improve for the satisfaction of our guests. I am glad to know the new caretakers did their job well , despite your last minute notice. Looking forward to have you again !

My family and I visited this exclusive island beach house three weeks ago and I am still imagining myself there today. It was a great "get away from it all" vacation. No cell phone coverage and no internet. We stayed there for three nights and four days and that seemed to be the right amount of time for us. We have two children: 4 and 2. They had a great time looking at all the sea life: sea stars, hermit crabs, crabs, and different fish under the water near the rocks. They loved the sand for digging and building. The host family were so nice and compliant with all of our needs. It was like they weren't even there, but when we did need them, boom! There they were. They were wonderful. If you are looking for a 5 star place this is not going to be your cup of tea. Come prepared to relax and explore. It is beautiful! Things to be aware of: -Be prepared for electricity going out. We were eating dinner one night and the electricity popped off for four hours. Nothing alarming but I had brought a couple of flashlights. -The only creepy crawlies we saw were geckos and spiders. There were mosquito nets over the beds. We didn't feel any during the day but one night my sons foot must have been on the outside of the net. He got just a couple bites. -the shower is a ladle. We basically used it to hose the salt water off. There is a western style toilet and running water. -Bring your own beach supplies: towels, toys, snorkel gear. Bring snorkel gear you will be glad you did. The different fish along the rocks are amazing!! -the food is awesome. make sure to ask for the chef! You will have to pay more, but worth it!! -Getting there from Davao City is interesting. If you battle with motion sickness, take meds.

Response from the owner Thank you for your positive and helpful review. It was so nice to have your family with us. We truly appreciate it.

“Peaceful and relaxing few days”

La Concha is the perfect retreat for a relaxing vacation or just a few days of peace. Tata and his family made us feel very welcome and were very helpful. Living in Davao just a few miles away means that my wife and I will most certainly return.

“The perfect place for us!”

Reviewed 21 Feb 2011

It is all about expectations. Depending on what kind of holiday you want to have, this can be the ideal place for you. It was for us. La Concha is at the end of the world, or more literally, at the end of a dirt road after passing through very simple residential areas. It still is easy to reach though. From Davao airport it is a ten min car ride to the ferry, a seven minute ferry ride to Samal Island and 20 min onward to La Concha. The house is situated directly at the beach, which belongs to the house exclusively. Except for one room everything is open. The ground floor life revolves around a large terrace with an eating area. You can sleep there, under a mosquito net, only a meter from the ocean. Upstairs you have three beds there in an open area, but can also set up a big mattress sleeping area, which our children did. There is a proper flush toilet and a shower in which you pour water over your head with a ladle. Beyond this description of facilities there are two aspects that made this holiday an absolute highlight. One is the sea life just outside the house which you can enjoy snorkelling. Just paddle a few meters out, and you are in a wonderful coral reef with amazing coral and fish. The list is of things to sea is endless (Clown-fish, Lion-fish, Moraines, Harlekin Fish...). It is your private "Small Barrier Reef”. Every high tide we went out to make new discoveries. The second highlight is the staff of the house. There are a number of people making your stay a real holiday for all of you: Cooking, making your beds, cleaning, shopping, cleaning the beach every morning, bonfire, washing clothes, boat trips...) In summary: We (two families of four) really enjoyed our seven days at La Concha and would highly recommend it to everyone. However, if you are used to five star luxury, shopping and entertainment infrastructure, you are looking at the wrong place. Here the pace of the day is driven by daylight and the tides. No internet, but mobile signal

Response from the owner Thank you and we greatly appreciate your review and the detailed description of the place plus the highlights of the little secret place. Hope to have you and your family again in your next visit to Davao!

“Brilliant place to get really Spoiled!”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2010

I had the best holiday ever, my 6 year old grandson and my nieces loved it, there was entertainment for both adults an children, the white sand beach was really nice, sleeping on this open bamboo house with the direct view of the ocean, listening to the sea waves, getting the fresh catch of the fish directly from the fisherman crossing the beach. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the house was big enough to accomodate all of us,all the kids loved the baby sitters that took care of the children, while we enjoyed relaxing. it is a very good place to go if your bringing children. It is so romantic as well for lovers to enjoy the serenity , peaceful environment and the safety of the place. The food prepared by the staff were splendid. It was nice to feel the ambience of being a local there not as a normal tourists staying on a typical commercial hotel. I would recommend this private resort to anyone, the open bamboo house are cleaned 6 times a week the food is like something you have never tasted before. It was nature pur!!

“Hoe away from Home , Indeed a Safe, peaceful Place”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2010

Everything was taken care of for us, and we stayed at a an open bamboo House that was literally infront of the white sand beachfront . We had a great time, and it was so relaxing, walking on the beach, buying the fish directly from the fpassing fishermen. We just want to thank the friendly, accomodating staff that catered to all our needs, and all Points accommodations for this. It was amazing on such short notice, and yet I know the great memories we had will stay with us for many years to come!

“A private piece of tropical paradise”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2010

A very secluded place , surrounded by crystal clear water and luscious green trees . A great please for children to play on the white sand beach or in the very clean water. A very quiet and peaceful place for adults, with the only sound coming from nature. The Maid service was very good, so was the food she prepared, fresh fish and seafood strait out of the ocean! The cabin has all the basic necessities, and although it lacks the comfort of a 5 star resort it's very relaxing to be just sleeping with the windows open in the middle of nature, listening to the waves on the beach and the wind through the palm trees. Highly recommended !

Response from the owner You are welcome and looking forward to serve you again!
