“Perfect Location... The "Real" Hawaii”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2015

Being from New Hampshire, Hale Malaekahana reminded me of a Lake House dropped on a perfect stretch of Hawaiian beach, close to the North Shore of Oahu. If you're looking for marble floors and granite counters, stay in Waikiki...if you want a true feel for the "Country" of Hawaii, grab a week or more at Hale Malaekahana!! The house and kitchen were very well equipped for anything that you would need, including surf boards, life jackets, beach chairs/mats, snorkel gear and a Webber Grill for grilling up some of the fresh caught fish that you can get from the locals. Forget about the pricey restaurants in Honolulu, experience the local garlic shrimp and Huli chicken along the route, you'll be glad you stayed up here!! Nothing more relaxing than falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking early to an awesome sunrise and coffee on the beach. Stan and Marcia ( although we didn't meet them personally) were very responsive to e-mails and calls during the booking process and our rental went off without a hitch. They even graciously accommodated our request for a late check-out on departure day as we had a late flight and we wanted to soak up every minute of Sun we could out front on the beach!!

Response from the owner Thank you very much for your fantastic review and your honest depiction! My sisters and I own, manage and fix up the place ourselves. We take pride in our humble cottage and aim to please our guests. Please come back again.

“Great and perfect vacation for our family gathering.”

Reviewed 16 Dec 2014

It was great and perfect location / property for our family gathering. Our family wanted a quiet and nice place to relax rather than busy/crowded place like Waikiki. This was a perfect property in the meaning. There were 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths so that we could keep our private. Large kitchen allowed us to cook most of the time. It was absolute ocean view (20 seconds to the beach right in front) with a terrace and super-markets and some eateries are within 5 min. distance. There also was a jogging/biking path just crossing the street with a great view of mountain and ranch. 20 min. driving took us to Haleiwa town, farmer's market and we took an excursion to Waikiki by little more than an hour driving. It was also about 1 hour driving to/from the airport. Pricing was very reasonable for what we got (can't imagine how much it could have been for 5 people for 8 nights in Waikiki area...). We recommend this property to anyone who wants rather quieter relaxing place in Hawaii for reasonable price!

“Spectacular location for a relaxing and fun family vacation.”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2014

Hale Malaekahana was exactly as promised. A very nice ocean front property for a relaxing family vacation. We enjoyed every aspect of the property and amenities. It was perfectly situated for quick and easy beach access, fully furnished for family meals, and a great place to relax at the end of the day. If you are looking for a real experience this is the place for you. If you are looking for brand new, polished, hotel style amenities do not rent this home. It is for real people needed a real vacation. We highly recommend it to all looking for an inexpensive place to stay and explore the island of Oahu. Jeff, Belinda, Tyler, and Willow Larson

Our visit to the north shore of Oahu was incredible. We discovered, a nice house for our 7 day stay in Hale Malaekahana. Our first visit to the beautiful north shore was everything we imagined about Hawaii. The renters were very gracious about allowing us to use their home for our vacation. Only a few feet from the beach to swim and we got up early to enjoy the sunrise with a nice cup of coffee and a walk on the beach. If we had known there was a walking path on the highway, we would have brought our running shoes along. The locals were friendly and everyone we met were helpful on places to shop and eat. Our next visit to Oahu, will be only on the northshore and using trip advisor. That's how we found our place in Hale Malaekahana.

“Absolute Perfection”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2014

We spent eight nights at the Hale Malaekahana in May 2014 and there is no better word than "perfect" to describe this place. For anyone looking for a low-key stay right by the ocean, far from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki up on the beautiful North Shore, this place is for you! Besides the price being incredible, the property itself had everything you could possibly ask for, from anything you'd need in the kitchen to all you need for the beach, never mind loads of towels and things for the bedroom....not that extra blankets are usually needed in paradise. And if you need your towels that match, go spend a fortune on a hotel downtown. ;) The three-bedroom property is perfect, the beach is literally steps away and even though the ocean right out by the path can be a little rocky, just walk up the beach two hundred yards for smooth swimming. A short walk in the other direction is access to the majestic Goat Island. And then there is the outdoor shower and wrap-around terrace! Four of us shared the house very easily and in absolute comfort. In terms of purchasing necessities, everything you could need, from a pharmacy to a grocery to a liquor store is just a short drive away. There is a good chance we will be returning to Hawaii in 2016 and if Stan will have us, we may opt to stay here again!

“Best Vacation Ever”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2014

This is a sweet house in a great location. We had 3 adults and two kids and there was plenty of room and a good kitchen. There are many wonderful local beaches and lots of snorkeling. The house comes complete with gear for all you need to go to the beach. The nearby town is small and rural, which is just what we were looking for. Short drive to north beach and you can also get to Kahlua beaches from there in about 45 minutes. We found the best shaved ice on the island in the small shopping area near the house, also good curry. You can also visit the Turtle Cove resort for the beach or to eat something fancy if you feel like splurging. Can't recommend this house highly enough, great indoor and outdoor space, a real paradise.

“Perfect, relaxing beach house getaway!!!”

Reviewed 29 Jan 2014

This cute beach house was perfect for our family. My husband, myself, our 20 month old son, as well as my parents and my husband parents all stayed for a week. It was comfortable with plenty of space and all of the dishes, linens, towels, etc. that you would ever need. There is an entire cabinet full of beach toys (kids sand toys, snorkles & masks, boogie boards, surf boards, bocce ball set, etc.). In addition, there were kids toys inside as well. The legos kept my son very busy!!! :) The sunrises from the front lanai were beautiful. The beach was almost alway empty other than some surfers/swimmers about half a mile north. Our family took walks up/down the beach almost every evening after dinner and usually only ran into one other couple, if any. We drove down to the state park just a minute or two south (or walk down the beach) and walk across the reef to Goat Island. It's a difficult trek but well worth it. It was quite the experience; beautiful and the feeling of seclusion. We spent the majority of our time around our beach or in the North Shore area. We had "historic" waves while we were there so the traffic was semi heavy a bit north around the Pipeline and Waimea Bay. However, it was never an issue right around the house. There are plenty of grocery stores and places to eat right nearby. Kahuku Grill was my favorite. Overall the house was exactly what we were looking for. It was a great value. We weren't looking for luxury, but a relaxing house by the ocean. The views through the kitchen windows and off the lanai's stole our breath from the moment we walked in. Stan and Marcia were both super friendly and offered up great suggestions.

“Fantastic place to stay”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2013

We found this place to be everything we could want in a place to experiance beach living. My Wife and I plus another couple stayed here and we didn't feel cramped. It was removed from enough from civilization to be relaxed, yet close to grocery stores and eating places (Kohuku Grill is great!) It took anywheres from just under an hour to an hour and a half to get to Honolulu depending on traffic. We will defintly stay here again when we come back.

“The Perfect Beach House”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2013

We had the pleasure of staying at Hale Malaekahana from april 17-24, 2013. None of us wanted to leave! The house was in a perfect location and was equipped with everything you would need. The beach was private and was somewhat secluded during the week. The ocean was nice and warm and the beach in front of the house was sandy and not full of rocks or seaweed. It was fantastic! We have already started thinking about next year and are hoping to make it back. Thanks again for everything! It was a great vacation and we would highly recommend your house to others.
