Very Good

“Beautiful--just as advertised!”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2014

We spent a week in Vicki's lovely home in June. It was even nicer than the photos on the website and the view was amazing, especially from the loft. Everything was clean and the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with everything you needed. The only warning I would give renters is that the television is not hooked up to either satellite or cable, so if you are hooked on watching tv, this may not be the place for you. We enjoyed the sirius radio very much and the entire house, including the deck, was wired for sound. The path down to the beach was quite an adventure and well worth it. There was plenty of firewood available and we enjoyed fires on two rainy days. And George, the property manager, is great! We would love to return one day to Vicki's beautiful home and Cape Breton Island!

“Cozy and relaxing.”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2013

My fiancée and I stayed here in mid-October, 2013 for a vacation and to see family in the Mabou area. The first thing we noticed was that the property and house were very neatly kept and even prettier than represented in the pictures. The home interior was extremely clean and welcoming - we had no problem making it our home for a week. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great, however neither of them had a tub - my fiancée loves her baths. We also very much enjoyed using the fireplace (lots of firewood), back deck and trail down to the ocean, and we spent quite a bit of time at the ocean. The trail can get somewhat muddy in isolated locations, so don't wear your best shoes for the 10-15 minute hike , but you definitely have to try the hike at least once. One day we locked ourselves out so went across the road to see George (the manager) to get a spare key. George's wife was kind enough to walk back over with us and reopen the place, which we appreciated. The house is only about a 5 minute or less drive from Inverness, which we found to be an interesting little town. It has some interesting shops and restaurants. In particular, the Coal Miner's Café had a good burger and the Dancing Goat had tasty coffee and baked goods (definitely go for the cinnamon rolls!). We also enjoyed Inverness' beach trails and general hospitality. After arriving late our first night, we rolled into town to find some dinner only to be pulled over by the police! They advised me that I had my high-beams on, and then realized we were from out of town at which point kindly directed us to a good pizza joint on the very north end of town. From this place, we reached most of west and north of Cape Breton Island, from Port Hood, to Cheticamp (for whale watching), to the Cabot Trail to Sydney. Overall, we had a great time and did not want to leave. What a comfortable, cozy and relaxing place to stay - I would recommend it to anyone.

“Two Outstanding Weeks”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

We have just returned from 2 glorious weeks at the Banks Road Vacation Home and already we miss the beautiful sunsets over the Gulf of St.Lawrence.The occasion was a family get-together and was an outstanding success due, to a great extent, to the House. It is very comfortable,well-equiped,well maintained, close to all amenities, yet very private. We will happily return.

“Relaxation and Beauty!!!”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2013

I really do not know where to start. We live on the mainland of Nova Scotia and drove out of the pouring rain only to have bright wonderful sunshine greet us in Inverness and so it was all week. We were amazed with the beauty of the property when we pulled in the driveway and everything, thereon in was a fantastic experience. The house itself is fully equipped, so other than your personal choice of food, you are set. We were greeted by the caretaker George who was so kind and helpful. The walk to the private beach was a great adventure and it was great to find some old coal seams on the rock face. Just to sit on the deck and watch over the Gulf of St. Lawrence was an experience. I watched a pod of whales for well over an hour. The public beach minutes away was literally deserted in the mornings and absolutely beautiful..Lots of sea glass..Be sure to take a trip around the Cabot Trail. We did it in a day (I am from the Island orignally so we really had no need to stop at the different trails etc.) So many great spots to eat..the new Cabot Links Gold Course itself has 3 spots to eat...Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, various spots in Cheticamp..take in a "dance" in Glencoe or Brookvillage..visit Baddeck for some shopping, Glenora Distillery for a tour or lunch/supper with live entertainment, Cape Breton style. We even had a lovely wood burning fire one evening, just to say we was magical. There is a wonderful antique/art studio in Lake ainslie as well as the MacDonald farm which is a provincial museum. Staff are wonderful. We will definatley be going back..Thanks Vicki for a wonderful week and opening your spectacular home!!!

Autumn at Banks Road Vacation House is a lovely time. With the wood fire place to take the chill off the morning, the huge west facing windows and deck to view the beautiful Gulf of St. Lawrence and the fall foliage, and the privacy of the large property, Banks Road Vacation House has all the ingredients for a great holiday. The House is well situated for day trips around the beautiful Island of Cape Breton as well as for cultural events and salmon fishing. We enjoyed every minute of vacation and are planning for a return next year.

Wonderfully relaxing week on the ocean. A fantastic well equipped home on the ocean with beautiful views from the huge deck. Whale watching, shopping, hiking, fine dining and local music nearby. Friendly, welcoming people and a quiet, scenic town nearby with a fantastic beach and golf course. Something for everyone, you can do as much or as little as you ike.

“Beautiful, private, property”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2012

We stayed at the Banks Road home in early June 2012. We found it extremely comfortable for 2 adults and it would easily have accommodated either another couple or some children. As it was cool most evenings, we really enjoyed the wood fireplace to take the chill out of the air. The back deck is huge , with stunning views of the water, especially at sunset. One of our favorite excursions was a day trip to Louisburg to visit the old fort. We made most of our meals in the fully equipped kitchen. We found this home to be clean, with a simple, modern, eclectic decor - a very soothing and relaxing space. Would go back in a heartbeat!!

“a true gem”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2012

Imagine yourself dining comfortably on the huge deck, listening to the soothing sounds of nature (or any music you fancy), breathing fresh, crisp air with your face warmed by the rays of the sun setting into the St Lawrence gulf... you won't miss the TV! There's an abundance of reasons why you would definitely want to stay at Vicki's Banks Road Vacation home: - a spectacular view (westwards thus includes beautiful sunsets) from both, the inside easy chairs or kingsize bed and the splendid deck, - a lovely decorated interior that makes you feel that the owner really cares about the place, - a comfortable and generous set of facilities (kitchen, laundry, bath & shower) that leave nothing to be desired, - location, location, location... the home is fully secluded yet offers a great range of things to do and see within less than one hour's drive (e.g. Mabou or Judique for ceilidhs and concerts, CBH NP for hiking, Glenora distillery for fine dining) and the town of Inverness (for basic needs) is less than five minutes away, making the place a perfect home base for a western Cape Breton vacation, - the beach, deck and lawn (for sun); the fireplace (set ready to be lit), steamshower and spacious house (for rain) as well as the attractions in the vicinity make you completely independent of the weather (our week was split into two almost equal halves of bad and fair weather and we enjoeyed every minute of it), - and last but not least; Vicki and George (nearby-living caretaker) will do everything they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible (that's how it felt to us). Were we not living so far away, we'd certainly be back this fall :-)

Recently my family rented this beautiful house for a week, we travelled from alberta, New Brunswick, and Halifax to meet in Cape Breton. When we arrived we were excited to see a kitchen that was fully stocked with all the dishes that we would need, pots and pans, coffee maker. The entire house was spotless, and there was a pile of firewood ready for the evening's fire. It was the perfect house for a week long relaxing get-a-way. The location was perfect for us, and what a view!

“Beautiful House, Stunning Location”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2011

This is a beautiful house in a stunning location. It has all the mod cons of up-to-code construction with the gracious feel of an older home. The kitchen is well-equipped; the hot water supply and water pressure are fantastic; and the double pane windows, efficient heating, and working fireplace make this a cozy retreat in cooler weather. While we loved leisurely evenings preparing meals at the house and enjoying the spectacular sunsets from the patio, we were also pleasantly surprised that there were some viable options for dining out nearby. We had a wonderful holiday at the Banks Road home and look forward to returning! Thank you Vicki!
