“All we needed in a cabin for a great weekend getaway.”
This place was great! I took a group of young adults from my church, and they were all impressed with the house. They kept asking me, "Where did you find this place?" The cabin feels very rustic and outdoorsy while still being very comfortable, spacious, and warm. We had a pretty big group, and there was plenty of room for all of us. Cooking was super easy because the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. And if you forget a condiment or some spices, have no fear because there is plenty of stuff like that around the kitchen. The house is in a convenient location; to hit the slopes at Wintergreen you just need to drive about 2 miles and you're there. The house isn't just a house, it's a home. You can tell that people have lived there (in a good way) and taken care of it for years... it's got character! We'll probably take a trip back to Wintergreen in the future, and I'm sure we'll stay at The Cabin at Wintergreen again if we do.
Response from the owner Thanks so much for submitting the review. I glad you and your group felt the same as we do about our home. It is so special and you seemed to love it. That is the reaction we are looking for. For us, after quite a few years, we have never gotten tired of coming back and always felt grateful to have such an amazing get away. And truly, year after year, the resort keeps getting better. It's a class act and our home fits right in with that image. I'm so glad you were so comfortable there.
“Great for a large family group!”
Our party of four adults and three children couldn't have been happier with "The Cabin." Plenty of room on two levels, great fireplace (with wood at the read), kids even used the hot tub while the temperature outside was zero. Ate in, ate out, youngsters learned to ski, oldsters watched. Everything was in place as the owner promised including the membership passes which allowed us to dine at the members only Devils Knob Club at the top of the mountain. Great fun and we'll be back with a group for golf season!
Response from the owner Dear Bill, Thank you so much for the wonderful review. More important, you had a great time, was a wonderful host for your guests, and that you would love to come back for golfing. I couldn't be more pleased. We'll be happy to rent to you in the future. All the Best, Bonnie Fagan
We left two days early after renting this home. I am sure that "in its day" it was an "ok" place, but it is in need of some huge renovations and seemed not to have been updated for many, many years. In addition, the house did not seem up to tidiness standards for a rental home, with cluttered drawers in the kitchen full of the owners' personal items, etc. There was also only one television for the whole house, in the kids' "family room" downstairs where they were staying, leaving everyone else with no access. I cannot remember being more disappointed in a rental in the over 30 years we have been traveling as a couple, and as a family.
Response from the owner I guess you can't WOW everyone.......but I also think that according to ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS, something seems really off the mark here. Could everyone else be so wrong and this one person be so right. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and know that you can't please everyone, and lord know I do try. It seems that in most instances I seem to reach my goal!
What a wonderful getaway! This place is so different than any other house in Wintergreen because it is a custom made log cabin. All you see out of the windows and on the wrap around porch is forest and foliage! Every bedroom in the house has its own theme and character. There is a place for quiet and many activities for the kids just down the hill,,,ps. the massage I got at the spa was great!
“Ideal Family Retreat”
This is the perfect destination for an extended vacation or a long weekend. With such easy access from the D.C. Metro area, it makes for a great trip for families with children. The cabin is magnificent- impeccably designed and decorated yet so comfy and cozy. The accommodations are amazing. The great room, centered around the fireplace, opens up to the kitchen and dining area, making it a perfect space for gathering. We spent most of our time there eating, socializing and relaxing. There is another great space on the lower level - perfect for kids to play, watch movies, etc. And each night, we looked forward to soaking in the hot tub under the stars- simply heavenly. The resort itself has something for everyone but we particularly enjoyed the luxurious spa, unique shops and scenic hiking. It really is the perfect spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I highly recommend it!
“Nature and Nurture”
In the cul-de-sac of a wooded road, this deceptively simple cabin's fascade unfolds over the sloping hillside beyond. The living room's enormous stone hearth warms the body, while the mountain vistas of the nearby Appalachian Trail nourish the soul. An evening view of the stars from the deck's hot tub is a private show that can't be seen from the city. This is a hidden place to escape from the day-to-day, to read, to hike, to share meals with friends, and to renew the spirit.
“The Perfect Place to Unwind, Relax”
As you drive into the driveway and catch a glimpse of this special log cabin, you immediately feel your whole body relax. Once you walk onto the porch and through the door, your ready to plop down on the sofa, perhaps in front of a roaring fire, and just let your eyes take in the calm and lovely surroundings. Food always tastes better cooked in this kitchen that allows everyone to join in and help with the meal. The screened porch or the window seat is a great place to get lost in a novel and the jacuzzi on the back deck with the gorgeous wooded views, makes all your stress melt away. But, there is also great hiking, golf, skiing, swimming to keep your body moving. I love this place and have visited it many, many times over the years. It's my favorite place to relax.
“A feast for the senses”
As you first approach the gorgeous mountain vistas - your body and mind begin to relax...As you wind your way around the curvatures to reach "The Cabin" - you slowly exhale and your "ahhh" experience begins. Upon entering - you're immediately drawn to the large fireplace in the center and the spectacular wooded views beyond. A quick trip to the kitchen for hot chocolate - curling up on the sofa by the fireplace and your vacation dreamily begins. Or maybe a cocktail in a lounge chair or the hot tub on the deck. Dinner cooked in the well-equipped kitchen and served on the outside deck, on the screened- in porch, or on the family size dining table is the best reason for movement after your arrival. After falling to sleep in one of the large cozy beds - day two found completely unwound souls. Then - walking, hiking, skiing, gym exercising, swimming (both lake and pool), tennis, golf, whatever your pleasure. My girlfriends and I were content - massages, facials, wraps, manicures and pedicures - all offered by the resort's spa facility that rivals the best five star in the country. If we were feeling particularly energetic - there were pool aerobics, yoga, pilates and our favorite - belly dancing... While the spa facility is close by - we also had the option of having private services and/or classes within the cabin. All in all - the perfect respite from our busy world. One of the best aspects of a vacation at The Cabin at Wintergreen is that there is something for everyone - of all ages - varying interests and activity preferences - or, my favorites - reading, sleeping, eating, sleeping, reading, ... you will never want to leave!! Relax and Enjoy!!
My sister's family and our family having been spending Christmas at Wintergreen for the past 6 years. Our children have now finished college and live all over the country but we always meet back at the Cabin at Wintergreen for Christmas. The first time we walked into the "cabin" we knew we had found something special. Bonnie Fagan has it decorated beautifully so we felt like we were in an old mountain cabin but with all the amenities. We were looking for an old fashion Christmas and to get away from all of the commercializm of the holiday. It is a very relaxful, quiet cabin with the appalachian trail running direclty behind with some of the most beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have also used the spa at Wintergreen and the kids enjoy the skiing part. We are once again going to the Cabin at Wintergreen this Christmas. Can't wait! The Mattson and Buranych families. Mt. Airy, MD and Warrenton, Va.
“A True Sanctuary”
My husband and I stayed at "The Cabin at Wintergreen" for our anniversary. Everything written about it was absolutely true. It is an oasis in the middle of the woods. It exudes charm, has all of the creature comforts we have grown to expect while traveling, and is as comfortable as our own home. There is nothing better than sipping a glass of wine in the hot tub, then spending the evening in front of a roaring fire on a chilly evening, with wonderful music in the background. We cannot wait to return!
