“What More Could You Ask For?”
This place is amazing. It will house a large group (20+) and is a short drive away from Crater Lake.
“Great ranch for a memorable Oregon experience”
We had a great family stay at the ranch to visit Crater Lake. It is conveniently located 15 minutes from the park entrance. We had no cell or internet connection but it made our stay more enjoyable. As it's pretty remote, I'm glad I had followed the recommendation of the owner to bring our grocery.
“The perfect location for a quality family getaway”
Our 3 generations of family spent 5 amazing nights at the Sun Mountain Ranch bunkhouse. The 11 of us fit the house nicely with plenty of room to spare. The house itself is comfortable and cozy. Plenty of blankets to keep you snug on the coldest nights. Fans and open windows to keep you cool on warm evenings. We experienced both during our 5 nights and were equally comfortable. The two full and two half baths made for no standing at doors tapping toes. The well equipped kitchen made cooking for a large group a breeze. There wasn't a single time we couldn't find exactly the right pot or pan we needed. The industrial sized coffee maker produced plenty for everyone. We didn't find the need to use the smaller 8 cup coffee maker. There were more than enough paper towels and toilet paper. There were kleenex boxes all over the house. Plenty of dish soap, laundry detergent etc. The only thing we had to bring was our food, clothes and a toothbrush. Plenty of chairs for lounging on the deck or around the fire making s'mores. Plenty of walking sticks for exploring the property. Ping pong, badminton, horse shoes, karaoke and more all there for your amusement. Everyone enjoyed picking out their sleeping cubby. All were equally comfortable. So no arguing over the "master" bedroom. We often laughed about the squeaky upstairs floor. There was no quiet way to get up and use the restroom at night. So it often started a cascade of floor creaks as everyone took their turn. But we found this amusing and charming. The proximity to Crater Lake was fantastic. We spent several days at the lake hiking trails. Most of our family had been to the lake before but had simply went to the Lodge and peaked over the edge. We had no idea there was so much to see and so many trails. Several of us hiked the Palikini falls trail and saw a bear. A very exciting experience. Several hiked to the top of Mt. Scott. There is a trail for everyone and a difficulty level for everyone. I have no doubt we will someday spend another week at Sun Mountain Ranch.
“Wish we could keep it our own private secret...”
I am already planning my next visit/family reunion! So much to do and see, plenty of room to spread out, and peace and quiet overall. We had family travel in from all over and all are excited to do it again. If you are a nature lover, you are in for a treat and will love it as much as we (take care of it until we return!). Top that all off with a most wonderful hostess - Thank you Cindy! - looking forward to next year!
“Secluded Spring Break Relaxation and adventure!”
The OSU Fisheries and Wildlife Club rented this large house for spring break 2014! First of all, Cindy is awesome. Unfortunately, Crater Lake was not viable as there was a major snow storm during our stay, but the house made up for it. We explored the 280 acres, the local wildlife refuge, and fish hatchery! This is a great location for large groups. It's super homey and comfortable, and has everything one would need! I definitely recommend this house to anyone interested!!!
Great location close to Crater Lake. Home like setting. Best for big family get together. Cindy is more than great.
“Peaceful and perfect for a large group”
Cindy was wonderful and very accomodating. The "bunkhouse" was perfect for our large group (3 families). Our families have been going on vacation together each summer for 15 years and this was one of our favorite houses. Outside we loved the big porch, firepit and large area to explore. The only downside was a great deal of mosquito bites!
“Beware! You won't want to leave once you enter this magical retr”
My family of 10 rented the Sun Mountain Ranch Bunkhouse for 2 nights to use as a base for our trip to Crater Lake, but once we entered the bunkhouse we ended up spending half our time there and everyone had a wonderful time! There are so many fun things to do right at the bunkhouse that I can't remember them all, but here's a few: hula hoops, puzzles, board games, karaoke, movies, a golf cart, fishing supplies (and a creek), jump ropes, etc. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped and great for cooking while being in the midst of the action. There are 4 dining tables, so people can eat and play games at the same time. Most of the beds are upstairs, although there are 2 double beds on the main level, which worked great for us as my mother-in-law was there and not able to go up and down stairs without assistance. The bunkhouse has most of its beds in rather open configuration, so it's best for a close group, a family, or a retreat consisting of people who trust each other. There's certainly enough space for a large group (easily 20 people; more if you crowd a bit). There is one unusual thing about the setup: you have to go outside the house to go up the stairs to reach the 2nd floor - but it's all part of the adventure. We loved it and would definitely return! Cindy is a sweetheart and very easy to work with; she met us at the house and showed us around. The bunkhouse is only about 15 minutes South of the Crater Lake Park; it was easy to get to from the Park. There is a deli/small grocery store about 5 miles further down the road. I will post pictures later.
“Great location for a family get together!”
This is a great getaway for families or groups. Close to Crater Lake, Upper Klamath Lake, the Wood River and much more. Lots to do and lots of room to do it. We rode the golf cart around the property, roasted marshmellows, played games, Ping pong, Karaoked, Bbq'd, relaxed, and had a great time.
“All you can ask for and more”
We had a great time and totally worry free experience at the bunk house. Cindy offered all the guidance and service we could ask for and went over and above by providing us easy check-in, extended checkout. She was thoughtful enough to leave all the ammenties including bug sprays if we needed them. We totally enjoyed the huge grounds for walks, deck for star gazing, hammock for lazy afernoon and horse shoe pit for competing. The best part of the stay was the welcoming home and feel of a close knit family. Our international friends loved the character of the place. Thanks Cindy and we will never stay at any other place if we are visiting again.
