“Edinburgh Holiday”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2010

I am glad for the offer to write a review regarding our trip through the UK, Southern and Northern Scotland, Northern and Southern Ireland and France. I listed the trip locations to show the extent and to mention that we stayed in self catering cottages throughout the trip. In all we stayed in six different ones. I am speaking not only for myself but for the whole family (Wife, Teenage son, pre- teen son and Grand Mother) when I say that the Drover cottage and the visit throughout Scotland was our favorite part of the trip. Lucy and her lovely cottage were absolutely delightful. I wish we could have spent the whol six week trip there. This was our first family trip of this kind and I can definately say we will try and stay with her again on our next trip to her lovely country. Thanks for the wonderful stay and for the memories we will enjoy for a lifetime. R/Troy (USa)

“A wonderful place to escape the stresses of modern living”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2010

Myself and the family have stayed at the cottage on 6 previous occasions it is a wonderful place to spend time in amongst the quiet setting of the pentland hills with great walks on your doorstep or not to far if you want to venture out a bit. We find the rural setting combined with easy access tothe beautiful city of Edinburgh exilerating and this makes the stay much more enjoyable. The other aspect of the location is it is within reasonably easy reach of Glasgow and Stirling ... the gateway to the highlands. The cottage is very well laid out and provides all that is required to ensure an enjoyable stay. We call it a "Home from Home"..everything is there that you could possibly need. The cottage is well maintained and very clean and you would be hard pressed to find somewhere similar at comparable cost. Lucy always made us welcome and would her utmost to ensure we had an enjoyable holiday The things we enjoyed most were walking in the hills and visiting Edinburgh to sightsee.

“A holiday that you just want to do again and again. Brilliant!”

We have now stayed at our favourite country haunt on 3 occasions and plan another stay next month. We have two teenage children and two lively dogs so it is important to choose a holiday that suits all of us. The cottage is beautifully set at the foot of the most spectacular hills and surrounded by stunning views and country walks and yet easy to access from the main road. Now that might suit the husband and dogs but for me and the kids its the Edinburgh shops and tourist stops that we love and the city is only a short train ride ( 20 mins) from the village of Kirknewton away or a bus ride ( 45 mins away) I never take the car to Edinburgh as the public transport is great. Glasgow is also easily accessible by train from Kirknewton. We love the ten pin bowling in Livingston, and the designer shopping centre about 15 mins car drive away. In Livingston there is also Bubbles swimming pool which has great flumes We also love the Ratho Climbing arena which is about 10 mins drive away. The cottage is in easy reach of great places like Blair Drummond Park as well as Stirling and Perth is just across the Forth Road Bridge. The cottage is cosy and spacious with a lovely pot bellied stove which just adds to that cosy feel. There is everything you could possible want in this home from home. The pigs in the field next door are great fun to feed with scraps and always interest the dogs and the kids no matter how old they get. I love just being with the family, really enjoying each other and this holiday feels like we are re-charging our families batteries and compensating each other for our busy lives. The holiday is full of variety but the real jewel for us in the warm, friendly welcome from Lucy and family. They are always helpful and kind and can never do enough to help make this a holiday that you just want to do again and again.
