“Excellent, restful stay”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2013

We were on a road trip from Mindanao to Luzon and we needed a place to stay for the night. We came in a day early but the caretaker accommodated us just the same. There was a blackout but they gave us some lights until power was restored. Water was also out but they did an emergency repair on the pump. Everything went on smoothly from there. Kitchen was clean and practical, with a gas stove, microwave oven, ref, spring water, etc. Living room was spacious and cable tv and dvd movies are available. Bedroom was ample, with two queen sized beds. had a perfect and restful sleep and was very refreshed for the next leg of the travel the following day. It was so good I booked it again. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

Response from the owner Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are looking forward to your next visit. Imelda

“Peaceful, accessible, pretty location with superb accomodation”

Good vacation rentals in Leyte are hard to find and this is a real gem. If you want peace and seclusion its here but you are not isolated, the locals are very friendly but never intrusive and always have a smile. If you are not familiar with semi rural small town Philippines then you may have a pleasant surprise. If your thing is Malls, bars and restaurants then maybe try this place, its different. You shop in the public market, you can find all you need and fresh too. Buy your fish after 4:30pm, its fresh from the sea. If you need a town then BayBay, Bato and Maasin are not far but they are not cities. My wife lives in San Jose Dulag and we traveled aircon van from there 600 pesos each round trip, not much more from Tacloban, beware those who want to charge you 3500 each way, ok you get the van to yourself but its up to you. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable with aircon in the bedroom and fans in the other rooms. Gas for cooking was inclusive and you can also BBQ in the garden which has a toilet and shower plus cottage. Swimming is good when the sea is calm but it's shallow water for 30-50m, best at high tide. We went as a couple, if you are a group of 3 or 4 then you will share the bedroom which has 2 queen beds. We didn't have time to explore the 4 nearby islands but they look amazing and we plan for that next time, we did explore Hindang Caves which were worth a visit, one of Loloy's friends rented us a motorbike (200 a day) so we did have mobility..the pedicabs are a bit small for westerners. It was a pleasure dealing with Imelda the owner and I give this 5 stars as the best rental in its kind of location that I have found.

Response from the owner Thanks Tony and Daisy for the great review and description of our humble place. It is always our priority to make our guest happy, safe and comfortable while staying with us. Looking forward to your next visit.

“Relaxing”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

I have stayed 2 weeks in the Kayla Cottage in Hindang,Leyte and i enjoyed it much. The house is very nice and clean and it is a very silent area. There is a garden at the house wich is very nice and in front of the house you have a bigger garden and the beach is in front of the garden. If you like to have a relaxing holiday i would say rent this place. You can visit different places and the mountains are not so far away.I will go back to this place for sure only to relax and also for the vieuw.

Response from the owner Thank you Jean-Marie for the review. Hope you had a great vacation in the Phils. and we are looking forward to your next visit.

“I wish I vacationed in Boracay instead!”

My plan was to just enjoy my three days vacation under the sun and enjoy the white beach but to my dismay, the beach was not what I expected, it's not white, It's murky and the location doesn't strike me as safe. It's like the neighborhood is a slum area. Dogs are roaming, fishermen's kids are watching all the time. The house seems okay, but the things that bother me most was the paint cans at the gazebo and the dust pan/broom that was sitting at the door for 3 days. The housekeeping I think was not all there, our beds were not made at all. The gave us 3 towels, but were 4 of us there. There's also this karaoke that was blaring at night. One more thing, there's no decent restaurant around, we had to drive to the neighboring town to eat. Now that I'm back in Illinois, I can't say that I enjoy my stay at Kayla's

Response from the owner We are very sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We were clear in our description that the white sandy beaches are on the islands and you would have to take a 30 mins boat to get there. We take your comments and see what improvements we can make. We are located in a rural area and most of my foreign guest like it as it is...real Filipino atmosphere. They might look like slum area to your eyes but they are great neighbors and the friendliest around.

“Many Improvements”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2012

This was our third stay in Kayla Cottage and we were very happy with the many improvements that have been made, the mosquito screens on all the windows are particularly welcome! The locals were as friendly as ever and we had a very relaxing stay which included celebrating our wedding anniversary with a large lechon in the garden! We look forward to our next visit.

Response from the owner Thank you Andrew and Jo for the review. We are always happy to have you as our guest in the cottage,

“Hindang Kayla Cottage”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2012

The little house had everything one could need to live comfortably in. The grounds around to home had an assortment of plants and flowers including papaya and banana plants. Across the road but part of the same land was a bit of a park like setting then our own beach. Hindang has it's own wet and dry market. The town is small and there is little to do there you have to take a van to one of the larger cities in the area the bigger one is Maasin and Baybay. You can go to a number of places for touristy things appearently the diving is suppst to be fantastic in Padre Burgos a small town near the bottom tip of southern Leyte
