“your own desert house”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2013

Left the city with wife, kid and 2 friends for Wiki Up. Awesome vacation. The house is really nice in and out. Nice rooms, great kitchen, comfy beds and great outdoor space w bbq, seating, fireplace hot tub and pool! All this at the end of a road with nothing but montain&desert; view. You want great relaxing vacation, contact Joshua desert retreats, our 4th time with them ! Thank you guys

“The best "getaway" vacation I've ever had!”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2012

I drove up from my home in the heart of Palm Springs, in the heavily congested Coachella Valley, and was delighted to reach the wide open spaces of the high desert and what a difference! Even the pure high altitude desert air is more invigorating. You can reach out and touch the stars at night-and actually see the vast heavens. Our "Wikiup" rental home lacked for nothing-from gourmet kitchen utensils to well appointed bed linens and towels, and beautiful original art pieces throughout that added character and charm to the rustic elegance of our accommodations. No detail was over looked by the owner, who left a delightful and comprehensive "user's manual" for guests and everything worked out perfectly, including the nice warm cozy heater and all the plumbing with plenty of hot water. Don't expect to be "camping out," but do expect an authentic taste of the real high desert, with all the comforts of home-and our "Wikiup" included a pool and Jacuzzi, outdoor grill and fireplace, and squeaky clean accommodations. The property is a large fenced desert oasis opening up at the end of a dirt road after a drive deeper and deeper into the real desert. Love the quiet peaceful feeling of really getting back to nature. Never slept so soundly in years. Lots of things to do in the area during the day, including exploring the vast expanses of Joshua Tree Park, and I will have to plan another trip back soon!

“A great little escape”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2010

We have stayed with Joshua Desert Retreats a couple of times and both times have been wonderful. We've stayed in Jackalope, which is in a wonderfully secluded location. The house can sleep 5 (maybe 6 - I can't remember), it has 2 double rooms and 1 (maybe 2) fold up beds. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 1 bathroom and a living room. Though I have to say, the best thing about staying in Jackalope is the hot tub in the back yard - a great place to chill out. We both have stressful jobs and staying with JDR is a perfect way to recharge our batteries. There are wonderful walks in Joshua Tree National Park, you can go horse riding, climbing or you can just chill out at the house. There are wonderful uninterrupted views that never fail to leave you with a sense of awe and when the sun goes down there are fabulous night skies. We've spent many nights just chilling in the garden under a perfect night sky - I even saw my first shooting star! If you need to get away from things then this really is the location for you, great views and a great house.

“An amazing desert escape”

I am a big fan of Joshua Tree but there are not alot of great places to stay out there. Also the main reason I go to Joshua Tree is to be alone in the expanse of the outdoors. Jdr was the perfect place for me. Each house sits on its own 5 acres so you won't be disturbed and there is nothing to block your panoramic views. I stayed in the adobe, one of the smaller houses which was full of tiny little touches like an outdoor shower and an outdoor grill in the shape of a pig. The price is not to be beaten making it easy to stay a week and with so many different houses to choose from I can't wait to go back and try another experience. A must for any fan of Joshua Tree.

“A great escape from the city...”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2010

I've stayed at several of the Joshua Desert Retreats rental houses, and it's been a wonderful experience every time. It's a perfect escape, with relative ease/short distance to travel, from the grind of Los angeles. The homes are beautifully and creatively decorated, gorgeously landscaped, with very comfortable accommodations to boot. I've enjoyed watching the sunset while soaking in the hot tub with a glass of wine, and talking with friends... sitting under a clear sky, filled with stars, around a fire pit... riding bikes and exploring the vast landscape... barbecuing, and just enjoying peaceful relaxation. Worth every dollar! Spending time at any of these retreats has recovered my sanity countless times, and I am sure plenty of therapy bills as a result! lol Enjoy!!
