“Feeling safe and welcomed at Nature Haven for Two”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2013

Staying with Libby and Jerry on the hillside in La Penita was a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. The gated property was well maintained with tropical flowers and birds. Our one bedroom casita was spotless when we arrived! The 20 minute walk into town was interesting as we walked past a school and homes where working class citizens lived and played. We met warm and welcoming merchants and restaurant personnel. There were special coffee shops with soy milk available (my favorite). We enjoyed walking up the hill to return home but a cab ride was only $2.50 if you preferred. This is a little piece of paradise away from the expensive touristy area of Puerto Vallarta. Jerry and Libby helped their guests to feel secure and informed!

“A private month in paradise!”

Loved the palapa with its view of the town, the ocean, the garden and the wildlife. An ancient resident--an iguana--sat nearby, sunning on the wall most days, and hummingbirds and butterflies swooped among the glorious flowers. Jerry and Libby, the owners, are just about the nicest two people you could ever meet and went out of their way to show us about town, and introduced us to their favourite restaurants. Jerry, a real tropical biologist, popped up to the palapa every once in a while to describe the birds and the natural surroundings, and he is also very happy when you join him at sunrise as the birds come to feed--almost close enough to touch. The best thing though is his excursion: a wonderful "River Boat Jungle adventure". We passed through mists rising off the water and glided quietly though mangroves, palms, and riverside trees that are home to a magnificent variety of orchids, birds and...crocodiles. With Jerry narrating it was like watching a nature special on television--only we were there!

“had a great time”

We had a wonderful time here. The pool is clean and well maintained. The entire site is very clean with full time help onsite 6 days a week. Your hosts are there to answer any questions you have about the area. beautiful grounds in a very quiet area. The area is on the top of a hill which gives you a really nice breeze almost all the time. When it is unbearably hot downtown the top of the hill was still cool. This is a steep hill but as my wife and I are walkers we did it 2 or 3 times a day. If you are not a walker the cab to the top of the hill from downtown is only 20 pesos or $1.50. There is also a store about half way up where you can buy a cool beer if you need it. If you are a birder, my yard list from their area was around 50 birds. A lot of birds were id'd for me by Jerry and he helped me when I would hear a vocalization I did not recognize. My yard list would have been much larger but we were there early November and the migrants had not arrived.
