“Lovely cottage :)”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2014

We stayed here with our 9 year old son. The cottage was clean, comfortable and really lovely, with everything we could've possibly needed. We also really appreciated the welcome pack :) Whitby is beautiful, and waking up to the view of boats in the marina was perfect. The cottage is a stones throw from the town and we managed to do more than we imagined in the weekend we were there; climb the 199 steps; see Whitby abbey; visit Bothams tea rooms; walk up to the cliffs; see the Whalebone arch; buy a lucky duck and much more! There is so much to do in Whitby, and this cottage was the perfect place to stay whilst there. It was a lovely place to relax and although there no wifi, we didn't mind or notice!! We had a fantastic time and didn't want to leave!

“Lovely cottage”

I have stayed at Bell Island Cottage twice now as its so comfortable. Its in a great location on the east side of Whitby. Close to the quaint little shops on Church Street. I would recommend it to anyone and will be booking again some time this year.

Response from the owner Thanks for the review and letting me know you made a mistake with the dates entry. Can't see where to change it to correct dates so putting it here. This guest stayed 17th Jan 2014 for 3 nights. best wishes Erica

“Visiting from Spain”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2013

We were returning to Bell Island Cottage after nearly thirty years...We were delighted with what Erica & Raj have done to bring the cottage up to date... The décor & furnishings are all very tasteful and there was nothing missing that we needed. The location remains stunning of course We were in England at the end of November, but we were warm and cosy in Bell Island...Thank you for letting us use it... we'll try not to leave it so long before we return!!

“Bell Island Cottage - Comfortable, relaxing and set in a fabulou”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2013

When booking our stay at Bell Island Cottage, Erica was fabulous and all of our requests were met (staying with a 13month old baby). When one of the items we requested was not at the cottage, Erica was at hand and sorted this within hours...couldn't have been more helpful. The house was very clean and nicely decorated and the milk and bottle of wine to welcome us was most welcome :-) and a lovely touch. The location was lovely. Right on the harbour and quite quiet considering. All the local bars, restaurants and take aways are literally minutes away. Perfect for a base to explore without having to drive anywhere. All I missed was my wifi connection and I think if the cottage offered that, it would be perfect ;-) but there are places in town if you were needing to conduct any business whilst on your stay. I'd say to be aware that the road outside where it is preferable to park does get very busy with cars parking (as it is free) and we were lucky that someone was leaving just as we arrived so we were able to park near to the cottage. We loved our stay and would definitely consider staying here again as our trip to Whitby is a yearly occurrence and now that we have stayed, we won't ever just want to visit for a day again! Thank you for all of your help and providing a lovely home from home for us for our stay.

“Five Stars!”

Family of 4 (kids 17 & 12) visiting from Vancouver Canada. We had a very enjoyable stay at Bell Island Cottage. Right on the harbour with gorgeous views from every window - it only gets better the higher up you go! The place was cozy, fully equipped and exceeded our expectations. We had intended to use this cottage as a sea side home base for visiting York, but ended up enjoying Whitby more! We loved the old charm of Church St, climbed the 199 steps to the beautiful graveyard at the top and visited the lovely old ruins of Whitby abbey. But our favorite was eating The Magpie's Fish and Chips on the beach as the sun went down on the North Sea. Hope to visit again - it was definitely a highlight of our dream trip to the UK.

“A Harbourside Retreat”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2013

Bell Island Cottage provided everything we needed for our 3 day break in Witby. As a family of 4 (with 2 x 5yr old twins) the cottage was ideal. Every home comfort has been thought of from the welcome pack to the cafetiere coffee. The bedrooms are very comfortable with beautiful views of the harbour. Whilst we had sun it was still very cold and the cottage was always very cosy. With only a 5 minute walk to the centre of Witby we had everything we needed at our fingertips. Thank yoy Erica for helping us to arrange everything so simply and swiftly.

Response from the owner So glad you all enjoyed your stay and thank you for the review best wishes Erica and Raj

“A Home Sweet Home from Home”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2012

We came here for the Musicport Festival and would recommend both the festival and this lovely cottage to anyone. Situated on the river, Bell Island Cottage was a real charmer with all mod cons. The welcome pack/survival kit left for us had something for all the family, tea, coffee, milk, choccie biscuits and (my own personal favourite) a bottle of white wine in the fridge.

“Bell Island Cottage is an outstanding place to stay for a holida”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2012

Bell Island Cottage was very easy to find, with free parking available just across the road. We were greeted by a lovely welcome gift of wine, biscuits (and milk for tea or coffee.) The cottage was immaculately presented, clean and homely, with comfortable beds and plenty of clean towels to use in the luxurious downstairs shower room. The view of the boats from the bedroom windows was delightful. The cottage was a short walk from the shops and attractions of the old town, including beautiful jet jewellers and lots of fascinating, unique gift shops, ideal for buying early Christmas presents or special souvenirs. There were many good eating places, especially for delicious Whitby scampi and fresh fish dishes, alongside some very intriguing real ales to try! Whitby offers sandy beaches, boat rides with stunning views, the famous abbey ruins, open-top bus rides, steam bus rides, amusements, evening ghost walks, swimming pool, pirate crazy golf, Bram Stoker's "Dracula", unique churches with stunning interiors, a beautiful harbour, the famous 199 steps, quaint cottages, bustling open-air markets with amazing street performers ... the list is just endless...! Should anyone actually tire of the delights of Whitby, then Robin Hood's Bay is only a short drive along the coast - another quaint and unique place which merits a day's visit. Further afield are the pleasures of Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and even York for those who like adventure, old city walls, huge train museums and monumental Minsters. Our family have always loved Whitby, but our visit this time was made all the more special by Bell Island Cottage. Nobody could ask for better, more thoughtful hosts than Raj and Erica. The only sad part was having to leave! Thank you!
