“Average stay .....will not return!”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2014

I waited a couple of month just because I did not want to be unfair with the owner but now that I am all happy and relaxed, I will tell you about my stay. Pros: Central location Close to airport Close to beach Affordable prices Cons: House is sounded by protection grilles as community is not gated and is close to the projects (only one block) --- NOT SAFE. Visitors/locals not allowed rules ---------ridiculous because if you are native from PR but live in the US and have family in Puerto Rico, they can not even step in to say hi because locals are NOT ALLOWED out in the patio while waiting for you OR ANYWHERE NEAR. That sounds a very prejudice and is not a good sales strategy as you will always come across successful Puerto Ricans that live outside the island but go visit their families. I had the bad experience with my sister who was sitting in the patio waiting for me and the owner very rude ask me to tell her to go. Please note that I was traveling with my husband, we were always out and the only day that we decided to stay in.....this uncomfortable situation happened. Next day, I guess the owner felt bad so she call to apologize but the damage and the bad taste was still there so I accepted her apology but still believe that she needs to have better ways of communicating with people. As a Director of Sales & Marketing for a major hotel chain, I felt the need to share this. I will have never felt so insulted and strongly recommend everyone to spend more money and at a hotel or at a condo hotel.

Response from the owner I understand there are persons that know how to obey rules and others not. Before anybody reserves any of my units I send them the policies and write in capital and red letter: PLEASE READ AND AGREE WITH THE POLICIES BEFORE RESERVING, and I do this because I want to avoid situations like this one. Upon arrival I also point out some of the policies (rules)and one of them is VISITORS which I also spotlight in yellow; policies states that for any posible exception to receive visitors (which have to be family or long term friends) they have to communicate with me first and let me know and visits can only be until 8pm (during Fridays and Saturdays we are more flexible). Well the part that she does not mention is that it was a week day and it was pass 10pm and at the other side of the street where I parked my car, I heard her talking loud (and the funny part is that she was the one that was pretty loud not her sister or her husband. Unfortunately, I can not allow this in my property because first I can NOT have any problems with my neighbors disturbing their sleep(houses in PR are pretty close to each other because we are a small island)or even disturbing other guests that want to sleep (By the way the other guests that were in the unit at side of them were going to Culebra the next day and were going to wake up at 5am). Also my next neighbor, is a doctor who is the director of the Presbysterian Hospital in Condado and he wakes up early to work. Sales are important for me but also my neighbors and other guests. Even in hotels if you are disturbing other during the night they will ask your attention. On the other hand, for the security of the other guests and my own security, I have to control the entrance of locals to my unit. I have had other guests here that have family and friends here in PR and could have them as visitors or even had them overnight but they respected the policies. Something that I should point out is that after they made the checkout they texted me to see if I found a gift card that supposely they left in the unit and after inspecting the unit I did not find any card but when I was taking out the sheets of the bed I found an ipod that felt in the floor and I texted them and let them know that I did not find the card but I did find a red ipod; they responded that they found the card and then passed by to pick up the ipod. In PR it's normal to have projects near urbanizations and even high class urbanizations (houses around here can cost more than 1 million dollars; we are very close to the best beach of San Juan which it's called Ocean Park; thanks GOD non of my guests have had bad experience in any of my units; neither in any part of PR! Even in Condado there is a project like a block from Ashford avenue Called Bayola's. I have guests that have stayed and have come back, so I think that I'm doing something right and also understand that unfortunately you can not please everybody. I should also point out that they left in the unit for other to use, somethings they bought such as a magic click and other things that I dont remember. Thank you for that and for staying in one of my units and also thank you for the review because this way others can have more confidence and belive that the reviews are real. If some day you are not mad at me anymore, well your welcome back!

“Our little home away from home”

Reviewed 30 Jan 2014

This place was awesome to stay at during our Puerto Rico vacation. Ani was such a great host from beginning to end. She was very helpful in telling us of nearby places to eat including her personal favorites. By the way, please stop by Kasalta bakery which is close by. we ate breakfast there almost everyday lol. She even provided us with a drawn out map of the neighborhood which really helped us out a lot! The reddish unit was very comfortable for my boyfriend and I. When we first arrived the unit was super clean. The television worked perfectly and so did the Internet. There was a/c unit in our room but we didn't use it since it was pretty cool at night and the fan inside the room was sufficient. There is a small fridge and microwave in the unit as well. The location was perfect for us. Ani's place is located in a residential neighborhood located closely by the beach. There are bus stops near by to take you into the city and old San Juan. We rented a car and there was always parking in front of her property. We felt really safe and comfortable in the area. This place is great if you don't need extra amenities. There are some things in the bathroom that previous guest have left to use and we also contributed as well. Ani thank you again for your hospitality and awesome place! We will definitely stay here again and tell our friends about your place!

Response from the owner Marvella and her boyfriend were very good and happy guests. They left the unit very organized and cleaned; thank you for that ! It always make me feel so proud when guest have such a good time in PR and enjoy our place. Well your "liitle home away from home" is waiting for you whenever you decide to come back!

“Ana is incredibly nice and very informative”

Reviewed 26 Dec 2013

The room is clean and perfect for a single traveller. It is in a great location in a residential area away from the casinos to the East and Condido high rises to the West. Ana instantly greats you and explains the whole neighborhood bars, restaurants, bus line etc. You must eat at LaCuerva del Mar! Excellent seafood and inexpensive and very nice looking locals frequenting it as well. I will stay here again!

Response from the owner Hi Don: Thank you very much for your review. It was nice having you here as a guest. When ever you want to visit PR again and eat a La Cueva del Mar, you are welcome here! Have a New Year with lots of good things, starting with health.

“Perfect stay for the right place”

Reviewed 19 Dec 2013

Traveled to PR over the Thanksgiving holiday with my boyfriend. As college students we were looking for a nice place to stay while remaining on a budget. We stayed in the studio apartment and it was absolutely perfect. It provided everything we needed from a comfy place to sleep to an area to make our meals. The location was also very nice and an easy walk to Ocean Park beach. I also felt very safe in the area and had no problems parking our rental car on the street for the duration of our stay. Our studio was perfectly clean and overall we were very comfortable. Its definitely a great place to stay on a budget or not! Ana was also very hospital and helpful when we had questions. She was also more than happy to recommend some great places for us to go. I would definitely stay here again. Only complaint was that the internet was down for most of our stay, but we were too busy with most other activities to be bothered by it.

Response from the owner katherine: Thank you very much for your review and nice to know that you recommend my place and that you will stay here again; it will be a pleasure for me. It was very curious that the other couple that was staying in t he house unit during your stay were also from New York! I'm very sorry about the internet connection. One day I also didn't have connection but I reseted the router and connection came back fast; apparently the extender device thats in the area of the Studio also had to be reseted. If I had know that you were not having connection most of the time we would have handle the situation to correct it. For next travelers that stay here, I will appreciate if this occurs to let me know sending me a text message, an email or even telling me when we see each other. Have a Merry Christmas full of joy, health and love! Ani Colon (787) 530-7002

“Great Location/ Safe area!”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2013

Couldn't say enough about this place ... I just recently booked this place for my son and dad traveling to PR. It was a last minute trip and I could attend. I felt hesitant at the beginning booking since I didn't know the area but ani made me feel comfortable. She was very attentive to their needs and great help to them. She kept in contact at all time and watch over them. My dad stated the area was safe even for parking and close to the beach. My next visit we will be staying there again just for the hospitality ani gave my family!!!

Response from the owner Thank you Millie for such good review. Your father and brother are very respectable and educated persons; it was a pleasure having them here and also your son, which I hope will be selected for the soccer team! You are all welcomed back!

“Life Saver”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2013

Let me start of by saying ana is amazing! She let's us know the best places to eat, the best places to go, and the best way to get around. We wouldn't have had half as much fun without her. The reddish unit is very private, clean, and safe. The area is full of locals and tourist. Mclearly street is full of nice restaurants and a gateway to the beach. Customer service is great, the sheets were clean, the bathroom was clean, and the air conditioning works perfectly. The bed was comfortable and the patio is nice to eat out on at breakfast time. Ana is so hospitable, don't waste your money on a hotel, get the real experience of Puerto rico and stay at The Reddish Unit, you'll be glad you did.

“Great accommodations, Great Owner, Great Vacation”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2013

Ani the owner was wonderful. She even went out to dinner with us, discussed some great things to do while in Puerto Rico, and gave us a tour of the surrounding area. The room is nice. Nothing fancy, but perfect for what we were looking for (inexpensive, two blocks to the beach, close to restaurants, and good launch point for our day trips). I would stay here again if and when I go back to Puerto Rico.

Response from the owner Thank you guys and the sugar was good!

“Wear sunscreen”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2011

The studio apt was great, nice and very clean. Its located super close to the beach and local shops. Its very affordable, and has everything you need. My only advise for travellers is bring bug spray and wear lots of sunscreen. I want to personally thank ani, i got sun burned really bad and ani tried to make my stay as comfortable as possible. From taking me to the drugstore, giving me hats, umbrellas, and even aloe. Thanks again ani! Ocean park is a quiet, residential area, perfect if your looking for a relaxing vacation. Bus stops are almost in front of the door, and will take you into Old San Juan for 0.75$. This rental is a great for a budget traveller, again it was affordable, clean, and safe. It has all the amenities you will need (except a hair dryer). I hope one day to go back to Peurto Rico, and I would stay here again. Ocean Park is a quiet, residential area, so if your looking for night time entertainment you will have to ensure transportation. Condado is the next town, about a 20 min walk, and is a tourist area with lots of hotels, shops, and resturants. Ok to walk daytime, not ok to walk night time. If you want a clean, affordable and quiet stay, this is the place to be!
