“Crested Butte Hostel not a bargain necessarily”

Reviewed 8 Feb 2014

The hostel has a great location and excellent common facilities - A bathroom for males and one for females, each with card key access; fantastic full kitchen area with plenty of seating for eating/playing games; nice, warm, cozy common area downstairs. It is easy to get down to the main street of town and the free bus mountain/town shuttle is one building away - was running every 15 mins in the winter. Front desk was very helpful, but very limited hours. A laundry is located adjacent to the hostel. Space in the room was adequate, but with no railings on top bunk, tricky for kids (and some adults) to sleep there. Nice desk and queen bed was clean and comfortable. Chair/stool to sit only for one person, another would have been helpful, especially for a room for 4-6 people. Attempt had been made in past for each bunk to have its own light and a little shelf, unfortunately not all present or working. Halls were not lighted the first night which made using the card keys for room and bathroom difficult. Maintanance came and changed something the next day. Liked least was the very dirty bunk blankets (large amounts of hair and some with stains). I ended up digging out the sleeping bags to use (with fell off kid on top bunk). Also, there was alot of debris on room floor by bunks that hadn't been cleaned. (Common areas seemed reasonable) Price was a little misleading with an almost 20% tax added to search price. For the $140ish for the four of us, I would have stayed in Gunnison (I had a car) if I had known only about 30 minute drive one-way (I had received wrong info of drive being about 1 hr). And have breakfast with it too.

“Piece of cake!!”

This was the perfect solution for our one night stay in Crested Butte. We hiked over from aspen and all we needed was a clean, comfortable place to rest and shower. I was extremely happy with the facilities and will not hesitate to stay here again. These ease of checking in/out, walking to town and using the facilities was incredible. I discovered many amenities that I will know are available to me for next time. Thank you!

“Clean, Comfortable, Good Value”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2013

We stayed here one night before doing the hike to aspen. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The common area and kitchen were awesome. The hostel is in town so you can walk easily to anywhere in the town and the free shuttle stops right on the corner to take you to the base of Mt. Crested Butte. My one complaint is that some other guests came home at 3am and proceeded to slam doors for 10-15 minutes and stomp through the hostel like a herd of elephants. Every time a door was slammed the whole building would vibrate, which is not really conducive to sleeping. My rating would be much higher if my sleep hadn't been interrupted by these inconsiderate guests. I would probably return if looking to stay in CB on the cheap. Just be aware that your sleep may not be uninterrupted.

“you get what you pay for...sometimes”

I've stayed at the hostel several times over the past 10 yrs. It is convenient and more affordable than most other CB options. On my last visit I opted for a private room. A dorm style room with one real bed and bunks. Not cleaned properly when I arrived. Sheets with "hair" ( were they even changed?) and visible dust on the haggard desk. Not inspiring. No phone in room, no tv and loud neighbors. Remember it is a hostel, so that's what it is. Inconvenient check in( no one there when I arrived...Ring a bell for service). If you are there for some mtn biking with the fellas or the chicas and want a slumber party on the "cheap"'s your spot! I think i'll spend a few more dollars next time and upgrade to other accomodations.

Response from the manager We appreciate your dedication to the Hostel and apologize if you felt this visit lacked our usual standards. The Hostel is serviced daily in the common areas and each bed or room is turned over upon departure. Sometimes things are quiet and the desk is not always staffed, but we are always just a call away if you need assistance. Again, we appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon.

“Great place to stay”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2013

I hiked to Crested Butte from aspen with about 6 friends in September for my birthday weekend. The hostel was super accommodating and easy. We were able to get two rooms with bunks for everyone, all of which had convenient bathrooms located near by. We were so close to town and were able to walk in for dinner and bars. For the nights we stayed in, the living room was super cozy with books and games and we used the kitchen to bake my birthday cake, offering it to some of our new friends who were also in the living room. Overall I had such a good experience that I'm hoping to spend my birthday there again this year.

Response from the manager Thanks for spending your Birthday Weekend with us! We appreciate your review and hope to see you again soon.

“Lifesaver for one CB hostess with too many houseguests!!!”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

I am writing on behalf of 3 21 year old guys who traveled to CB from the Boston area to have a special CO high mountain snowboard vacation! Here's what they said: Bathrooms clean and accessible Beds comfortable Convenient to ski and town Close to Gas Cafe'for snacks and quick meals perfect!!! So you have a homeowner 1/2 block away from you and the "hostess" for these guys (there were 3 others staying at my home!) - I am thrilled to have the hostel in downtown CB and such a wonderful facility at a reasonable cost!! Thanks for helping me out! Cheers, Gwen desCognets

Response from the manager If you're ever feeling overcrowded again, give us a call! Thanks for choosing the Hostel.

“Nice Hostel!”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2011

We were happy to get the last private room on the 4th of July. Very pleased with everything.

I did not get the name of the fellow who was working that evening but we had some mix up in our reservations that was very accommodating about. There were 3 of us instead of one and so we needed more beds. I had never stayed in a hostel before so the experience was new to me. I enjoyed the kitchen idea where we could make our own meals. The lighting was dim however. We had to get up around 6:30 a.m. to fix breakfast. The kitchen was clean, bedding was clean, except the coverlet on the bed had some grease spots on it. Carpeting seemed to need cleaning. Bathroom was clean. Thanks
