“Simply a fantastic apartment!”
This place is an absoulute gem! We arrived to a very warm welcome from Mary & Phillip and once shown inside everything far exceeded our expectations, from the scones,butter,jam,wine-wow!-things you really do not expect to find in a holiday home. The owners had very thoughtfully placed toys and rubberducks for bathtime for our 20 month old son,who thought they were marvellous! Even a potty for Thomas also! The apartment itself was spotless, really comfortable furnishings too and everything you could need was available to you in the kitchen. Really great Sainsburys literally a couple of minutes walk away too,and truly only 4 minutes walk to the Minster,so location fantastic! It was also lovely to have a little garden(complete with seasonal flowers) to sit out in,which was also really quiet and peaceful considering the proximity to the city centre. So thankyou Mary & Phillip for making our first holiday as a family really special,we all had a great time and we will be back!!
“Perfect for our family break to York!”
Dear Mary & Philip, We stayed at your holiday appartment from Monday 9th to Friday 13th May 2011 with our two young children ages 2 & 4. I just wanted to say thank you for your very warm welcome and the little treats you both left for us to start our family break off like a dream. The scones and good old Yorkshire butter and jam went down a treat along with the chocolate bars for the children! The children were made to feel as welcome as we were which is a deffinate reason why we would come again. The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. As for the location, it was perfect. Just as described!. Next time we won't need to bring as much food & drink with us as the supermarket is very handy (especailly when you realise you have left a bag of shopping behind, like I did, it only took me 5 minutes to get there and back into the appartment!). From the apartment, it was great to stoll into town. We never had to use the car, a taxi or a bus where we wanted to go. One instance we had a walk out to the Grand Opera House to watch a famous comedian and on the very last day I walked into town to dip my feet in to the fish spa near the Yorvic Viking Center which I would deffinatly recomend, along with the apartment, to any one! Thank you again, and we hope to see you both again on our next break to York. Helen & Peter
“Great apartment, grand buidling, superb location”
We stayed at The County House for two nights whilst University visiting. From the welcome to checkout, the experience was flawless. The County House is a former hospital with a grand facade and imposing entrance hall (complete with the original 18th century benefactors boards). Parking is included, which in itself was extremely useful. We were met by Mary & Phil, the owners, and treated to scones and coffee; somewhat welcome after a long drive from London, and the kind of personal touch that goes a long way. The apartment itself - spacious, impeccably clean, with everything required for a short or longer stay (including a washing machine). High barrelled ceilings, very comfortable beds (which can be configured either as twin or double), fluffy robes, even a selection of Dvds and books. Outside, a large south facing patio area with table and chairs (too cold during our trip but I'd imagine fabulous in the spring and summer). Very quiet, with no traffic noise at all during our stay. Sainsbury's a short walk away, so provisions almost on the doorstep. And as for location, a very short walk to Monk Bar (one of the several gates, or Bars, into the historic city proper) - so a completely ideal base for exploring. We felt a tinge of sadness as we dropped off the keys at the end of our stay - but we'll be back!
Ideally situated apartment. By far the best we have stayed in.We visit York each year in autumn and will certainly stay here for future visits.
Response from the owner Thank you, we would love to see you next year. Mary and Philip
“Excellent Wonderful apartment”
We stayed at County House for a long weekend in November. Mary and Phillip made us feel at home and welcomed us with coffee and scones which was really nice and totally unexpected. The apartment is beautiful, spotlessly clean with everything you could wish for. In an ideal location being just a short walk from the Minster, however it was really quiet and relaxing. We would certainly recommend County House Retreat and hope to stay again. Thnak you Mary and Phillip
“Excellent shorty break”
Wehave a really good few days. Excellent location just a few minutes walk from the city walls. Flat was clean and well appointend and could not be faulted. Having a car parking space - a real bonus
Response from the owner Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.
“Perfect base for City break”
Prompt response to our enquiry and clear directions. Warm welcome. Car didn't move for duration of stay despite plans to travel further afield, apartment was so ideally situated for everything you could want. Early morning walks a joy. Afternoon crowds meant tranquility of County House Retreat beckoned.
“Excellent place to stay in York”
We spent 4 nights in County House Retreat and found the apartment lovely, quiet and peaceful. Everything you might need was supplied even lovely soft robes. The owners Mary and Philip were there to greet us and are a lovely, friendly couple they even had a cup of tea and a scone for us as a welcome. There was a food pack supplied which included a bottle of wine, lovely touches. The patio area is a relaxing, quiet spot. The apartment is within a few minutes walk of the Roman walls so it is perfectly situated for all sight seeing. Also having a Sainsbury right around the corner is very handy. All in all we had a great break and we would definitely stay at County House Retreat again.
We stayed for 2 nights at the County House Retreat and were warmly welcomed by Mary and Philip after a 7 hour journey! The apartment was amazing, fantastic location, clean and beautifully furnished. I would highly recommend this apartment over and above any hotel any day of the week! We could not have asked for more - thanks for your hospitality Mary and Philip.
“Excellent place to stay”
Superb well appointed accommodation. After our journey, it was a nice touch to arrive to coffee and scones provided by Phil & Mary. The apartment is well sited, and only 4 minutes walking distance from the centre of York. Would definately use this apartment again.
