County House Retreat retains an atmosphere of a bygone era, ideally located in the city centre, with the Minster only 4 minutes walk away. Parking in a private car park (fob supplied), a full sized (Sainsburys) supermarket next door and restaurants within 2 minutes walk make it a great location.

This splendidly furnished apartment basks in natural light, with high vaulted ceilings, a south facing patio and gated parking. The County House, this landmark building was built as a charity hospital in 1850 and it has now been converted into apartments. This grand building houses our relaxing retreat.

County House Retreat is all on lower ground floor (accessed via steps or lift or level walkway): Living/dining room/kitchen with French doors to garden. 1 bedroom (6ft zip and link, can be twin) with additional single. Bathroom with shower over bath, sink and toilet.


York is a living museum, with evidence of Roman, Anglo Saxon, Viking, Norman and Tudor visitors, yet is still a lively, modern city with shopping, tea shops, riverside pubs, restaurants and a vibrant night life. The Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors and Coast, Durham and Harrogate are all an easy drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Getting around

The city centre location means we are within 4 minutes walk of the Minster and close to many shops, restaurants and the all main tourist attractions. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Railway/Bus Station and there is a electronically gated private car park (one space - no extra fee) for those who bring a car.

We meet and greet you when you arrive and make sure you are happy with the apartment and we can answer any questions you may have. We leave you our phone number so you can contact us at anytime during your stay to ask for help or report any problems. If we can't solve it for you over the phone we will come and visit you.
