“Above and beyond expectations”
This villa is divine. The location, environment, grounds, accommodation, food, staff, and total 100% commitment to a total 'luxury in the jungle experience' is absolutely perfect. I can't fine one thing that stands out from the other. Everything was superb. The scenery, oh the scenery is the star of the show. But then the beautiful rooms, and verandahs, and grounds. But also the staff... they were wonderful. And did I mention the food.... Nope in total 120% for every aspect of our stay. Any improvements.... Hmmmm. Longer stay?
“Best view on Bali and very luxurious.”
I stayed for 9 wonderful days. It is located 2 km from the nearest village, 25 minute walk on narrow jungle road that is bumpy and became unpassable 400 meters before the villa in this very rainy season so we had to walk those last meters. Car could not be used but I had my own driver. Having read the other reviews I need to make a few comments: the villa is very luxurious. The marvelous Balinese furniture is top class and super luxurious. The 4 bedrooms are great and all with great views. The pool is fantastic and was not too cold (about 20 degrees). Some will not like that temperature but most will. The owner would not swim in this time of year. He is a very nice man who stays with family in Ubud when he has guests in the villa and is on holiday on Bali. Personell is wonderful, especially Ketut, who lives with wife and child in the cottage just behind the villa, under the restaurant/bar (which is only for guests). During day he leaves you quite alone and only comes (in my case) for breakfast and dinner at agreed times. The view is more spectacular than I had imagined. Pictzres don't do it justice, You see the deep valley and behind it 9 mountains, not "Payangan range" as one reviewer says, but the high ones around the northern lakes, with Batukaru in front to the left. The top lounge has a DVD player that also plays CDs and there is a collection of 260 legal Dvds (Australian), divided (by me) in action, Drama and Comedy, alphabetically. All sorts of great films. Also other Dvds in the drawer. Villa is at 660 meters and no airco or ventilation was needed during day or night (and I normally need it more than others).I could wear what I wanted all day and evening. About the rooms: not all beds are equal. The ones on middle floor are King size (180 cm) and soft beds. The ones on lower level are 160 cm and hard mattrasses. Villa surrounded by neighbours with animals so not totally quiet. "Relaxing, quiet" will mean for reviewers that it was OK for them.
“Heaven on Earth...”
We really enjoyed our stay. Love the breathtaking view. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would love to come back again.
My Wife and I had a great relaxing time at the hill side Villa, the people are friendly and the place is clean and comfortable with all the bits you need. Pool, cool rooms Bar just near the main house so you can party with the sound you like. The hill side around is just great, the views are post card. The place is not far from the markets. and the staff are very helpful and will go out of there way to help.
“Fantastic holiday and a wonderful relaxing experience.”
The Hillside Eden Villa is exquisite and amazing. I stayed there for a week and had such a great time relaxing in the Balanise mountains. The Villa is beautiful and well presented - luxurious is the word that comes to mind. The views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are incredible and you wake up to this every morning. The surrounding gardens are spectacular and well kept with a tropical/jungle feel to them. Beautful native birds are everywhere. The staff are so lovely and really helpful. The location of the Villa allows you to really relax and get away from the hassles of the big cities and the challenges of life in general. If you want to get away from it all and have a truely relaxing holiday then this is the place for you.I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.I will definately go back there.
“Villa in Paradise”
We stayed at Hillside for one month in aug/Sept 2011. The villa is very large and is approx. 40 minutes drive north of Ubud near a small village. Our driver ariana and the other staff really made us feel very welcome and it quickly became our second home. Be aware that it is in a rural area and the access road to the villa is very rough so you may want to limit your travels outside the villa or rent a motor bike for easier access. As we did. The villa is well set up and has a beautiful pool although during the time we were there it was too cold to use. Be prepared this area can get chilly at night during this time of the year. The gardens around the villa are beautiful. The neighbouring forests are magnificent and you can spend days sitting on the terraces just watching the local farmers tend their rice paddies. Ubud is a mecca for great cafes and lovely restaurants. We fell in love with Ubud and the people of the region. We would recommend Hilsside Eden to anyone who wants peace and quiet in a beautiful garden setting and is okay with a 40 minute drive to town.
“Calm, relaxing and peaceful”
This house had an exceptionally beautiful view. My stay was very peaceful and quiet. I had a good time just relaxing at the house, and when I needed to go sight see the driver was kind and very helful. I had a good time cooking in the kitchen and watching Movies upstairs. Good times and good memories.
“Nice but not very convenient or luxurious”
This place is great if you are looking to get away from it all with a group of friends. Just stock up on supplies before heading up there then enjoy your own little slice of paradise for a few days. The villa is far from basic but I wouldn't call it luxury either. All the amenities are as described in the blurb on the website. Be warned though if you are looking for a base to use while you explore Ubud or further afield then stay somewhere closer to town. The other reviews are correct that it is about a 45min (very bumpy) drive down into town so isn't very convenient. My friend and I had planned to relax by the pool (which is much smaller than the photos make it appear!) but as the weather wasn't on our side we had to venture out, and the drive up and down was tiresome. Ariana, the manager, was lovely and picked us up from the airport (for a cost of course) and we then used him again on the other days to take us into and out of town. Do note that if you just want to be taken to town and bought back later that day then it is free. Any stops on the way will make it a 'trip' which he then charges for. But, he'd very knowledgeable so a day driving around with him was fun as he knew the good places to go and was full of local info. Oh, one last thing, there was a big ant problem when we were there in the kitchen (they said the were getting pest control in) and none of the Jacuzzi baths actually worked and we had cold water one day :(. Overall it's good for a get away with mates but not as a tourist base.
“Our Jungle Home”
We have never stayed at a place as remote as the villa but in saying that we would definately stay there again. Yes the road in is a lot 'of rock and roll ' as the driver put it but if you walk that road it is extremely beautiful. The villa it self is well appointed and the fact that you can go to bed without air con on is fabulous. and wake the next morning to the site of the jungle. We sat around the pool had music playing from the upper sitting room. We also had transport into Ubud everyday, so had plenty of time to visit a spa or a favourite restuarant or do the shopping. It was a thoughly enjoyable stay with our breakfast served in the restaurant each morning and plenty of cold beers and drinks in the fridge. If you want a place to go and relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings away from the crowds then this is it.I would have no hesitation in recommending Hillside Eden.
“I could happily wake up here for the rest of my life”
When we first went down the small remote track through the Bali jungle I thought to myself, "what have we gotten ourselves into", but from the moment we arrived at the Villa, it was quickly apparent, we had arrived to paradise. This was a special and unique view to Bali and what it has to offer. Not fast pasted shop, shop, but instead a friendly beautiful innocence. The stay at Hillside Eden will be a special experience, one that we will enjoy to do again on our 5th return to Bali, Our second home. Thank you
