“Remarkable Cultural Experience / Fabulous Location in Italy - Sh”
For those seeking an authentic small village Italian experience, especially those whose travels are motivated by the appreciation of art and culture, this is an excellent home base, with options that include onsite art classes, enjoying Mama Rosa's fabulous (the best Italian food ever) cooking, and ready access to the coastal highway. You can drive further into Italy and explore remarkable 1,000 year-old villages, go the other way and find yourself in Menton or Nice in less than an hour, or simply spend a day at the many beaches in the area. The proprieteor is a world-class artist and yet is extremely down to earth, helpful and full of excellent ideas and advice. When we return, we will definitely block off more than a week.
“Unexpected artistic ambiance”
nicole Durand who own the place beside being herself a recognised and an artist sculptor and famous teacher into her category, is offering Into an old and picturesque Italian mountain village, a spectacular Designed B.B ensemble. Of several. Different style rooms with the Necessary comfort and astounding. Cheap fares . Do not miss to try at least a week . You will not regret it !
“What an anticlimax!”
We had booked for three nights at Villa d´arte, and we had asked to bring our small dog. The owner had been very welcoming in her mails, and offered us a room with a terrace where the dog could stay, giving us the price of 90 Euros per night. She also demanded us to pay 100 Euros in advance. We made the appointment to arrive at 1 p.m on a Saturday in early august. When arriving there it was impossible to find a parking and even more impossible to find the owner. We spent half an hour walking and searching for her, and she had not given us a phone no...in the end a different lady helped us. We found our room on our own, and what a room!! A cave with dirty floors and an old sofa for a bed. No terrace, she had given that room to someone else. So no way of keeping the dog there. Two very small towels and dirty sheets. There were ants everywhere, and there was even still garbage outside the door, which was still there when we left. When we finally found the owner (who was eating and looking upset to be bothered) we had to insist to get clean sheets, and we had to sleep with the door closed because of the mosquitos. No window to open. No door to close when going to the bathroom, which was also very close to the "kitchen". Very unhygienic, and I believe illegal. No way to make a cup f coffee...and of course no breakfast offered. On the walls there are signs of being an approved B&B;, so we had expected at least a coffee in the morning. Apart from the view and the potential of the place - and the closeness to Cote d´Azur, it was the worst place we have seen in the area. We left the next morning, happy to be out of there, and found a small, clean and nice hotel in Ventimiglia, very close to the beach and 80 Euros per night including breakfast :-)( Hotel Calypso). We are a bit puzzled of the good reviews of Nicole Durand in here. Are the rooms and the service very different from each other? Does one have to be an artist to be treated well, or is it up to Nicole´s mood??
“The best place Ive stayed”
It was magnificent! views off white shaded terraces with spa on one level and out door cooking facilities. Amazing features tgat have been incorporated into the restoration of these 500 year old buildings: Nicole has incorporated her skill as a scultpress into this wonderful design- Take for. instance the shower tgat shows the stars at night and views over tge mediterian in the day time. People were so friendly you didnt feel like a tourist! But there were so many riurist sites nearby such as Monet'sdolceaqua and Monaco. Maria Rosa's cooking was amazing and traditional Ligarian-I can"t wait to get back!
“Magical Experience !!!”
This is the second summer we've stayed at thEe Villa darte. It was truly a magical unforgettable experience for me and my husband, our parents, and our little 4 year old son. This is one of those places where you definitely wish the vacation never ended! The location was idyllic (super easy to get to neighbouring mention, Italy/Monaco,either by car or bus...or cycling/running) and the weather was perfect. The owner's attention to detail is second to none, and we couldn't have been better taken care of! This was a very special experience, one that will be etched in our hearts forever. We love the South of Franceand italy, and we love the magical Villa darte! Lynn, Renee, and Sophie
“Extremely rustic accommodation”
We stayed only one night in the petite apartment that is the one with small balcony and terrace next to it. We were booked to stay there for one week but left after one night. The double bed is in a very small loft that has a very low ceiling and to get into one must climb a very unsafe/unstable ladder. The children slept on the futon. All of the linens and towels were very old and threadbare. Some of the pillows were old brown pieces of foam. The dwelling was very damp and had a strong smell of mildew. The tiny kitchenette had almost no dish/glassware and was in a terrible state. The bathroom was very uncomfortable and felt much too "handmade" and sink was tiny. Generally it felt like we were camping. The tv was not working and the internet was via a cord pulled into terrace door from outside aside from the nice view and pleasant disposition of the owner I can say nothing else positive about this place.
