This cottage is in a league of its own - the owner's Jane and Jim are lovely, they have three dogs, all very laid back! The cottage has a very comfortable open plan lounge/dining/kitchen with patio door to small garden to enjoy alfresco times! You can also sit in the owner's large garden, where there is a large pond with bench at side, and area with swings and slides. The luxurious huge bedroom has an amazing king size bed with a memory foam mattress. There is a wood burner fire which adds a touch of cosiness, as well as the two leather sofas, with lots of cushions to relax on after a day out! There are CDs to play (all tastes), maps of the area and lots of brochures to help you enjoy your stay. What also made it welcoming was the thoughtful vase of daffodils and welcome pack with delicious eggs from the owner's free range hens, and tasty Irish homemade soda bread, butter and milk. You can see Dunmanus Bay from the cottage; this is an idyllic location for a 'get away from it all', perfect for walking nearby (The Sheep's Head Way)or trips to small towns and of course the two nearby peninsulas, Mizen Head and Sheep's head, which are a must, not to mention the outstandingly beautiful Barley Cove, near Mizen Head. The village of Durrus is a short walk away, where there are lovely pubs to try, you will be made very welcome. There is also an Italian café, which we liked for its coffee and cake! A short drive away to ahakista, visit The Heron Cafe and Gallery, its location is superb on hill with lovely gardens, pigs, dog and cats to meet. The owner is a local artist and her work is outstanding in our opinion.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for the great review. Hopefully we shall see you all again soon. Jane
“Very comfortable and welcoming to 2 adults and 2 dogs!”
We were warm and cosy throughout a very stormy week and enjoyed our stay in Durrus while visiting our family 15 minutes down the road.
“Wonderful cottage and hosts in a great location!”
The description of the cottage on the web page was entirely matched by the reality. The warm welcome from our hosts was helped by succinct and accurate directions to the cottage and by an initial food package. The cottage was very well appointed, with everything we needed for our stay. The cottage shares the properety of the owners' home, so it is very quiet. It is a half-kilometer from Durrus and ten kilometers from Bantry. This means that there is good food and pubs nearby. And the cottage is near wonderful villages, such as Crookhaven and Schull, and magnificent scenery -- Dunmanus Bay, Sheepshead peninsula, etc. We enjoyed our visits to Baltimore, an historic port now featuring sailing schools and pleasure boats, and Castletownbere, a working town with a large and active harbor willed with fishing fleets. Summary is that we enjoyed being in the cottage and enjoyed our touring and visiting in the vicinity.
Response from the owner Thanks so much, Bob, for the great review. Hopefully you will choose Ardogeena Cottage should you find yourselves back visiting this stunning area of West Cork. All the best Jane & Jim
“Best cottage ever, highly recommended!”
We stayed at the ardogeena cottage two weeks July andaugust 2013. The cottage is spacious, decorated with a lot of taste and attention, the kitchen is perfectly equipped. The bedroom with the super king size bed is a marvel... The latter and the pellet stove in the living room make you relax and feel so much on holidays! Jane and Jim are exquisite hosts and the cottage is a perfectly located basis for exploring the region. Also, at a walking distance from pubs, restaurants and the village shop. What would one wish more? I wish all cottages were like ardogeena!
Response from the owner Thank you, Francoise, for the great review. You were superb guests and we certainly hope that we shall see you both again soon.
“The house is convenient, very well equipped, reasonably priced and”
Its almost impossible to overstate how beautiful this part of Ireland is,especially when the sun shines!. We found the house convenient, very well equipped, reasonably priced and our hosts helpful and friendly. There is so much to do right on your doorstep and felt we had only touched the surface during the week we were there. The house is very spacious and comfortable and we wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
Response from the owner Hi Caroline and Melissa Thanks for the great review. Looking forward to seeing you both again in the not to distant future! Jane & Jim
“Excellent, we will be back.”
The cottage was beautiful and well kept, with everything you could possibly need. The living room was very comfortable with big settee and big cushions (felt like being at home). the main bedroom upstairs was amazing huge very comfortable bed and lots of space. jim and Jane who own the cottage are lovely people who are always on hand if you need anything, on arrival at the cottage Jane had left us some home made soda bread (delicious) and some fresh eggs from their own chickens. would definitely recommended ardogeena cottage, our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
Response from the owner Thank you both for the great review and being such wonderful guests.. Hopefully we shall see you again very soon!
“Fabulous home from home”
Excellent accommodation in a first class location with a very comfortable, enormous bed that gave us a good nights sleep. The village [just a short walk away] has a choice of places to eat which catered for all needs. There is also a good bar at Kilcrohan [Eileen's Bar] and a lovely gallery at ahakista with good food and interesting gardens [Heron Gallery]. We loved Hacketts bar in Schull for food and atmosphere and Skibereen farmers market on Saturday for spotting the rich and famous! The location is perfect for exploring the Mizen, Sheep's Head & Beara peninsulas all with well marked walking routes. Jim and Jane left us a lovely welcome pack including freshly made soda bread and eggs from their hens. They were excellent hosts, being available if needed. This was our second visit and hopefully there will be a third.
Response from the owner Lovely to see you both again! Thanks for the great review and for being such wonderful guests. See you again soon. Jane
“Just what we were looking for a perfect holiday”
Jane and Jim are hosts to our liking, always there when needed, or just for a nice chat, and the homemade bread and eggs from their own hens as a welcome gift make you feel just that- welcome. The cottage is very spacious and has everything you might need for cooking, washing and entertainment. Very comfortable furniture. A very nice touch was the vast amount of information and even survey maps of the area. As we forgot our travelguide and the book with walking tours this was so helpfull. The location of the cottage is very beautiful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting at the pond and watch the sun go down. The next village is Durrus, just a few minute walk from the cottage, with four pubs and a restaurant just in the village center. Durrus is a very good starting point for exploring Sheepshead and Beara Peninsula. What we liked best was the whole package of a very nice and quiet holiday home in a beautiful surrounding, within walking distance of pubs and shopping, and only short drives take you to the most beautiful places like Mizen Head or Dursey Island. What we did not like was leaving so soon.
Response from the owner Thank you both for the wonderful review! You were wonderful guests and we really do hope that we shall see you again, very soon. Take care Jane & Jim
“Fine Base for W Cork Explores”
The cottage is clean, well equipped and spacious for a couple or a small family or for two couples who are used to traveling together. The location is rural but not isolated and makes a fine base for walking and other outdoor explorations. The nearby village (< 1 km) has basic services + 4 pubs. A wider range of services and food offerings are available in Bantry, about 10 km away. Not for those seeking "entertainment". The attraction here is the natural setting and the opportunities for exploration which that setting affords.
Response from the owner Thanks for your review, Dan, and for the great comments you wrote in the Vusitors' Book. Enjoy the rest of yor holiday.
“Great stay in West Cork”
We had a nice and great week at ardogeena Cottage. Many thanks to Jane and Jim. The cottage is nice decorated and we appreciate very much the cleanliness. The cottage is located in quiet surrounding. Large garden. Our dogs enjoyed too. Eggs from thier hens, butter, bread and milk upon arrival is a real nice attention of owners. Hoping to come back soon.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for your great review. You were the ideal guests and we very much hope to see you all again soon!
