“Cosy comfort and total tranquility in sublime countryside”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2013

Being a Londoner, I was very keen to get away from invasive noise, crowds and city life, and I found the tranquility I so sorely needed, thanks to this cottage. I came to stay for 3 nights at the end of November with my boyfriend. The owner, Charles, was extremely informative, quick to reply to queries and was so friendly and warm, even over email! I enquired about possibility of organising a birthday cake to be baked for my other half, but it seemed like it was going to be too expensive, so I abandoned it. When we arrived at the cottage I was utterly delighted to see that Charles and adelle had placed a huge delicious cake, hand-decorated with birthday greetings, as a gift on the kitchen counter! I was so touched at this simple gesture of kindness - such a lovely welcome into a beautiful, and surprisingly spacious, cottage. The cottage itself was completely spotless, with gorgeous quality furniture. The sofa was perfect for snuggling up, especially with the toasty wood-burner. Also the selection of Now TV films was so good it was tempting to just stay in every night! The kitchen was equipped with everything you would need, the bathroom was luxurious (absolutely loved the spa bath and the under-floor heating) and the bed was almost dangerously comfortable. It's a testament to the cottage that we were utterly loathe to leave it! For the more active visitors, when we did venture outside, we were blown away by how beautiful the village was. During the day, there were so many places to visit and the walks we embarked on took us to some visually stunning locations with views that will linger in my memory forever. Also I should mention that the surrounding pubs (particularly the Red Lion in Litton) were all brilliant and welcoming with excellent food (huge portions) and wonderful atmospheres, often with open fires and hearty ales. I have never felt more at home in a holiday cottage, it was calming, comfortable and aesthetically amazing. I will definitely come back!

“Immaculate, well appointed cottage in heart of beautiful country”

Swift cottage provides an excellent base to explore this wonderful part of the Peak District. The furniture and fittings are of a very high standard, and a lot of thought has gone into making the cottage a very special place to stay. There are numerous local walks and places of interest to see.

“Relaxing break”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2012

It was our third visit to Tideswell and this was our 1st visit to Swift Cottage. We were very happy with everything, very comfortable and clean. Everything provided, a home from home really. Owners Charles and adelle were very accommodating.

“A great holiday in a lovely cottage!”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2012

My husband and I, along with our black Lab, enjoyed a fab week in Swift Cottage. The cottage is extremely well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Charles and adelle were very helpful from the start of the booking process through to the end of our holiday. They even arranged for a birthday cake to be delivered to the cottage on my husband's 50th! We would certainly recommend the cottage to anyone and we hope to return soon!

“Country living at its best!”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2012

I stayed here with my husband and dog, and my 8yr old step-son joined us on the last 2 nights. We have stayed in Tideswell for 5 years now and this is by far the best cottage. The owner, Charles was fantastic and sent us regular emails outlining the attention to detail to the interior/exterior as it was upgraded. The cottage is homely and well equipped with everything you need for a week's stay including a wifi notebook, iPod docking station, games, books, Dvds, and of course our favourite asset: the whirlpool bath. This is what attracted us to the cottage in the first place and we weren't disappointed. The bathroom is finished to a very high standard and simply perfect. The welcome pack was appreciated and thoughtful, with locally produced sweets and fudge (for my step son), fresh flowers, bread, jam/marmalade, eggs, milk, biscuits and rose wine. We had atrocious weather during the Jubilee bank holiday but this cottage was our little ray of sunshine. We didn't get to fully appreciate the immaculate landscaped garden but did sit out there every time the sun came out. We only managed to venture out to Monsal Trail at Miller's Dale in between downpours which was a lovely walk now that the tunnels have been opened. Tideswell is a lovely village and the locals are friendly. It is a perfect place for us to relax away from our otherwise busy working lives and we fell in love with it on our first visit. There are three pubs, 2 of which have lovely home-cooked food but the Star was closed every time we passed by during the day and not as friendly as it used to be when we called in one evening. Food was never great there so we didn't try it this time round. The George and the Horse & Jockey are friendly and the food is excellent at the Red Lion in Litton (1 mile walk). Swift cottage is definitely a place we'd stay again and would highly recommend you give it a try.

Response from the owner Thanks for this excellent review, Suzie! Really glad you enjoyed your stay in Swift Cottage and your time in Tideswell and the surrounding area. We hope to see you and family again one day in the future - ideally accompanied by better weather!

“Blisfully Comfortable Cottage in an Idyllic Setting”

Reviewed 31 May 2012

Swift Cottage is even better than a home-from-home, as we don't have a whirlpool bath at home, nor do we have a fabulous view of the Dales. Scrupulously clean, and incredibly well presented and equipped, the cottage is faultless. The area is really quiet, and just a short, and pleasant, stroll from the village centre. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the owners. This was our third stay in the lovely village of Tideswell, which we recommend wholeheartedly as a great base for exploring the peaks. Tideswell has lots of amenities without feeling touristy, and the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. We can recommend the courses at the Tideswell School of Food.

“Another comfortable and enjoyable stay”

Reviewed 14 May 2012

This was the fourth year in a row spending Easter in Tideswell and the second year in a row that we have stayed at Swift Cottage - the best and favourite rental we have stayed at there. The latest round of improvements have added to the icing on the cake: besides the big changes, like the excellent new bathroom, little tweaks and extra facilities, such as the cottage's netbook, helped us to get the most out of our week. Blazing sunshine on Sunday turned to almost a foot of snow mid-week but we just hunkered down in front of the woodburning stove and relaxed. Books, games and dvds meant that when we tired of watching the goldfinches and other birds on the feeders outside, we never got bored just staying in. Even in the snow, Tideswell was able to provide everything we needed. And as the weather improved, the snow-capped hills and dales made delightful walking - with the benefit of being literally on our doorstep. Meals out in Buxton (chinese) and Red Lion at Litton (highly recommended) and very good fish and chips in Tideswell meant the cook (me!) never felt too put upon. And the handy Co-op and excellent butchers provided anything we hadn't brought with us and were only a few minutes walk away. Charles made sure that there were no problems during our stay. All in all, a great, relaxing and comfortable break.

“Good value short break”

Reviewed 14 May 2012

Arrived to discover attractive welcome pack made up of local produce at this tastefully modernised cottage. Well equipped kitchen, newly refurbished bathroom and very comfortable bedrooms all added to our relaxing break, enhanced by terraced garden and good views to the rear. Tideswell a really good base for walking and touring Peak District.

“just fantastic”

Reviewed 9 May 2012

This is the second time we have stayed here. The welcome pack was fantastic with bread, shortbread, chocolates, jams and wine. The new bathroom is fantastic and the downstairs room was fine. Perfect for dog walks as you can walk straight from the cottage. Just wonderful.
