“A Wonderful Experience”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2014

We stayed at the Galapagos Ocean Front Villa from Jan 29th to Feb 6th 2014. Furio is a most excellent host. Very knowledgeable of the Islands with his 40 years of experience of living part time and full time on the islands. It is a very nice villa with plenty of space and amenities. Furio's knowledge of the tours and things to see and do were very helpful. I would recommend this villa to anyone who want to have a fun time in the Galapagos Islands. We booked 2 day trips before we arrived on the islands and then filled in the rest of the days after we arrived. It worked well for us and were also able to interact with locals. We brought another couple with us for their 50th wedding anniversary present. It was fun, enjoyable and more fun. Thanks Furio for being a great host and your knowledge of the islands. “Old World Elegance, Modern Convenience, Tropical Paradise”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2014

Since our stay at Furio's house was planned by an Ecuadorian friend, we had no idea of the treat that was in store for us. As the water taxi pulled around the point and into the secluded bay and we caught our first glimpse of the house, we were thrilled. Before we even arrived at the dock, we had spotted sea turtles, blue footed boobies, a spotted eagle ray, a family of iguanas and several sea lions swimming in the bay. The house provides the best of tropical comfort with cool stucco walls, tile floors, high ceilings and big open screened doors to let the breezes blow through. The decorating style gives a glimpse into the personality of Furio, the owner, with it's eclectic and artful blend of old world elegance and modern convenience. It's obvious the kitchen was arranged by a chef and we were lucky enough to be treated to a few of Furio's wonderful meals. Both before and during our stay, Furio was extremely helpful in arranging day trips and planning hikes and excursions. He made us feel very welcome, and his extensive knowledge of the islands and his contacts with local businesses truly helped us make the most of our time in the Galapagos. The only caveats: Families with very young children should be aware that supervision is definitely required because of easy access to both the swimming pool and the bay. Guests with mobility issues should plan to stay in the lovely and secluded guest house where the rooms are on the ground floor. The bedrooms in the main house are on the second floor which is reached by a spiral staircase which is an absolute work of art, but may prove challenging to anyone who typically has trouble with stairs. We would return in a heartbeat and would definitely recommend Furio's house to anyone planning a trip to the Galapagos.

“Stunning location and exclusive lodging”

Great location of home in a stunning bay. Private and exclusive, very peaceful for relaxing and for adventure to enjoy the wonders of Galápagos! The owners knowledge of the islands is helpful to make the best out of visits & local tours! Thank you!

“Pool over looking the bay and wildlife!”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2014

A beautiful location and great vacation spot. Private dock with easy access to the bay for any kind of water activity, with pool and great party area. Spacious rooms and full bathrooms and great views from the deck. Close to nature and town. Walking is required as there is no road access. Fabulous kitchen! Great vacation! Also fabulous home owner on site who is a great chef! Close to Las Grietas site, boobies, turtles, sea lions and iguanas. Reachable by either water taxi or walking. Very quiet, that is nature all around so all you hear are birds and sea lions. Everyday we saw what the Galapagos has to offer, right off of the deck.

“A wonderful memory for all”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2014

A memorable vacation for all In writing this review, it allows me to relive a very wonderful vacation that was enjoyed by a family of 10, the youngest age 10, the oldest, age 84, and it was enjoyed by all. Furio, our host and owner of the "Villa," made getting there so easy. He made the bus reservations to the island and then met us in the town of Puerto ayora where he is located. The meals and the service were wonderful One reaches the "villa" by water taxi only which is a very pleasant ride. Also at Finch Bay, close to Furio's, are restaurants and a hotel which are very nice. When we arrived at Furio's on day one, we all loved the feeling it exudes. Comfortable, so very private, and the accomodations were perfect for the ten of us. Young people upstairs and we older folk downstairs. The living area with its many comfortable couches was enjoyed by all and great for our family gatherings for our many games, and working our traditional Christmas puzzle. The kitchen had every gadget one could think of and it was put to good use. Our meals were generally enjoyed outside as we viewed the water, swimming pool and many boats. Idyllic setting for that morning coffee. Furio is also quite the chef. His fresh pasta dishes, meals of lobster, and chicken dishes were enjoyed by all. He also has a pizza oven which was used to fix a pork leg which is our traditional Christmas Eve meal along with other goodies. Furio joined us for that meal and we were so glad to share one of our recipes with the "chef." He also had some hints to make it even better which was appreciated. If one is planning a trip to the Galapagos, we highly recommend Furio's "villa" and most of all Furio himself as a host, chef, tour director, and now, in our case, we think friend. We wanted for nothing. He recommended the tours we took and arranged them all. I am limited in space as I could go on and on, so I will just say, it was wonderful visiting the Galapagos and especially wonderful meeting Furio.

“Everything we had hoped for, and more!”

What the pictures don't show is what a great host Furio is. If you just want to be taken from visitor site to visitor site, and spend the rest of your time on a boat with very little interaction with the people and lifestyle of the Galapagos - take a cruise. If you want to experience a little bit of what its like to actually live in the Galapagos, get to know some of the people and places, and put together your own itinerary for your group - staying with Furio in this wonderful villa is the way to do it. From the time I first contacted him last fall about our pending visit to the Galapagos this summer, Furio helped us plan and put together exactly the Galapagos experience we wanted to have. We snorkeled with sea lions and sea turtles. We saw the blue footed boobies do their courtship dance and frigate birds calling for mates and feeding their young. We saw the baby turtles being breed at the Charles Darwin Research Center, and Las Tortugas Grande in the highlands. We also experienced what it was like to actually live there - to stop at the market at the end of a day of exploring to buy what you need for that evening's meal. To then return to the villa and relax over the evening meal while reviewing the day's events and pictures. If I were to return to the Galapagos again this is definitely where I would want to stay. Its the only way to really experience the islands!

“Great place for family in Galapagos”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2013

We loved our stay with Furio at his beautiful house in the Galapagos. It was perfect for us, as we have 3 young kids, and staying on a cruise or in a hotel aren't great options. His house is very comfortable and close to great restaurants and beautiful beaches. He set up every excursion for our trip and walked us out each day to make sure we got to our destination. He's a great host and a terrific guy. We highly recommend his house.

“Galapagos adventure”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2013

My wife and 3 children age 12,10,3 and my friend, his wife and his two daughters, age 10,8rented this home for a week. We had a great vacation, nice beach within walking distance, fishing and sea life off of the dock. The kids loved the pool. Plenty of space. the owner had arranged a welcome and transportation from the airport which made the transition very simple. Would rent again if we come to the Galapagos. renting a house is the way to go as opposed to a cruise or hotel. We went to the fish market and bought same day caught yellowfin tuna and wahoo steaks for $2/pound. You can't beat it.

“Eight days in the garden of Eden!!”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2013

The owner of this villa, Furio Valbonesi, is a long time resident of the Islands, who knows everyone in the area. He is a great chef who once owned a restaurant. Furio also built and sold a resort hotel on Santa Cruz. He is a world traveler, a great "raconteur," and a perfect host. Furio is very valuable as an advisor for the best tours to take while there and he can also arrange and provide any tours you'd like. The villa is beautiful and fully appointed with a comfortable living room and large dining area. It is equipped with a large and complete kitchen. There are four double rooms, two on the second floor and two in a separate garden building. We had breakfast each morning outdoors under the sheltered patio outside the entrance to the first floor of the villa. The villa sleeps ten with a bunk bed on the second floor. And of course, the beautiful there's the infinity pool and convenient jacuzzi featured on the website. The location is perfect for a group. Ten minutes away from the "hustle and bustle" of Puerto ayora by water taxi you'll find the beautiful and restful Galapagos Ocean Front Villa. Your stay at Furio's villa will be like a "party" in the Garden of Eden!
