“Wonderful holiday home!”
Just a short walk from the lovely town of Hay-on-Wye is 24 Millbank which is the most fabulous holiday home ever. Set out on 3 floors there is everything the holiday-maker needs and everything is top quality. The view is stunning and the furniture is so comfortable. Every detail has been so well thought out - we wanted for nothing. And the whole house was spotless. I cannot recommend this too highly! The service I received from Callum when booking the holiday and throughout the stay was so friendly, efficient and professional. Just wonderful. we can't wait to return. Thank you!
“Comfortable, spotless accommodation”
A very comfortable spotlessly clean accommodation, offering everything you could need for a short stay or even longer. Novel layout with kitchen/diner on ground floor, lounge and bedroom on first floor and bedroom 2 on second floor. Linen and towels spotless. The owners and staff could not have been more helpful. Location offers some lovely walks and a relaxing atmosphere, we would recommend this accommodation to anyone
“a relaxing home from home, spacious and comfortable”
truly lovely accommodation. everything was spick and span and it is just as it is shown in the website photos. The views and sounds of the river were relaxing and peaceful with the beautiful chestnut trees just nearby. We had everything we could have needed and the welcome pack of bread, milk, eggs, fruit cake, milk, butter and marmalade was a lovely touch. we would definitely book again!
“The best of town & country - Luxurious but at affordable price!”
I stayed here earlier this year with a friend - what a find! The house is beautifully furnished and decorated, with a big sunny balcony overlooking the Wye. You really can enjoy the best of town & country staying here - the centre of Hay is literally a minute's walk away, with loads to do, see & eat...and there is beautiful countryside to explore, right on the doorstep. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Everything was spotlessly clean, and it was a very peaceful place, well deserving the name Retreat.
“An elegant, spacious, any season town/country retreat.”
I stayed in this property with a couple of friends in early February as we were in Hay for a celebration. When we arrived on a typically cold, overcast day we found the house immediately warm and comfortable with light and spacious accommodation which has been creatively arranged with the sitting room on the first floor where sliding glass doors open onto a decking area overlooking the River Wye. I particularly appreciated the artistic decor and elegant furnishings which gave it the feel more of a tasteful and welcoming home than a holiday let. I would be happy to stay here whatever the season. If the weather is dreary it's only a step or two to the centre of Hay with its great range of shops from clothes, crafts, antiques, food to the famous bookshops where you can browse away a wet afternoon. We also found a good variety of eating places and pubs. I'm determined to try it in Summer so that I can explore the beautiful Herefordshire/Welsh countryside and lounge on that terrace overlooking the river. We were aware that the site to the front was still being developed but once inside the house we weren't aware of this at all especially as the daytime accommodation has such a beautifully peaceful aspect to the rear of the building. Oh, and the service was excellent too, friendly but unobtrusive.
“civilised country pad!”
Just cant wait to come back to Hay - what a find! Really comfortable town house in the middle of Hay. Very modern and uncluttered. Gorgeous outlook and wonderful doors opening out onto a river view. Everything done with such attention to detail. I have been raving about millbank to all my friends. Thank you so much. Loved Hay, wandered happily from bookshop to bookshop and from pub to pub. Great walking area and loved the path along the river to the pretty cottage by the weir. Didnt want to go home. Loved it!!
“Contemporary comfort in the heart of historic Hay-on-Wye.”
This modern build with balcony views of the serene river Wye is an ideal location to enjoy Hay and the surrounding area. The accomodation was easy to book with a quick and friendly service from the owners. The property is in the centre of the town with the inviting Three Tuns pub on your doorstep. The house is well equipped with big comfy beds and a sofa to match. Some of the modern art in the rooms can be purchased, but we had to hide the lovely glass bowl from the inquisitive reach of our one year old boy! The bathrooms are roomy with lovely soap from Provence. The only draw back to our stay was the noise in the morning from the builders, who are still completing this new development. But, this is really nit-picking as we kept ourselves busy during the day strolling through the countryside, kyaking 5 miles to the Boat Pub, browsing the book shops and enjoying the local cuisine (and cider). This was an enjoyable, pleasant and relaxing stay with the creature comforts of home.
“Raring to get back”
I am writing to say how much we enjoyed our stay recently in the riverside cottages. My mother absolutely loved the accommodation and would have been quite happy to spend all her time sitting on the patio area. The house looked good from the website but we were all very taken by the quality of the accommodation, great layout, high standard of furniture, beautiful kitchen. I could not fault the property in any way and would happily recommend your site to visitors to Hay. We managed to find the farm where her grandmother was born and our visit to Hereford, and the Cathedral, was a real highlight. The recommendations for food and drink could not be faulted. Access to the shops could not be easier. The marmalade and ginger cake were delicious. I would have no reason to look elsewhere for accommodation next time I visit the area. Nb: I would recommend the Pandy Inn for people to have a leisurely lunch before driving to Hay, a quick walk around, and then picking up the keys. Best wishes & thanks again for a wonderful stay Steve
“Great weekend getaway”
Accomadation was excellant, very modern, very clean, very comfortable with excellant views overlooking the river, ideally located near the town centre. Everything about 5 mins walk. We had some provisions on arrival which was a very nice touch. Lots of shops and great pubs nearby for food and drink. Hay is a lovely compact place ideal for a quiet getaway from the city - especially if you like books !!
“Great stay away in Hay!”
A wonderful bright, warm, clean and quiet place to stay on the edge of town, which is not only famed for its bookshops but also has some lovely shops, delicious eating places and some excellent walking. An unusual touch was the display of artwork and crafts which were available to buy. The welcome pack provided more than the usual basics, as did the kitchen, making the apartment a real home from home for all age groups. Would have no hesitation in returning for another break.
