“Best family vacation ever!”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2012

We rented Robin's Cottage for the week after Labor Day 2011. We had an amazing experience! We were literally steps away from the bay side beach, and our 2 toddlers reveled in the experience! On the other side, we were just across the street from the ocean side beach with its majestic sunsets! Two different nights we watched the sunset and saw dolphins playing in the waves just off shore! The cottage was well-equiped for a family beach vacation with boogie boards and games. The furnishings are nothing fancy but plenty comfortable. There's no air conditioning and the neighborhood can be loud on the weekends, but it was no big deal to us. We turned on the fans and slept just fine. The cottage is within walking distance of just about everything you need: restaurants, bars, equipment rental shops, and even an amusement park! I hope to visit Robin's Cottage again in the future and repeat the best family vacation we've ever had!

“totally diappointed”

I lived in San Diego, specifically Mission and Pacific beach area, for 8 years and I have been going back to visit for the past 5 years, each year renting beach homes. This was the least cared for property I have ever rented. It was a total disappointment to me and my family. I felt the cost was way out of line with other properties that I have rented in the past. Unfortunately, this place is not charming it is simply run down. The location is fantastic, but that is all that is fantastic. The unit was not well stocked with even the basics like dishes and glassware and beach towels. The beach chairs were all broken. And the unit was not clean -- there was a mold all over the shower curtain and food was left behind from the last guest in the fridge and freezer. The home itself is in need of a fair bit of repair or at least some TLC. But the home is simply not cared for, as you can tell by the pots of dead flowers on the front porch. In all fairness Nancy's rentals did thier best to remedy the situation by bringing a slew of basic supplies -- like glassware, beach towels, new shower curtain -- but really should I have to be calling a rental company to supply such basics? We made it work and had a great trip in SD anyway -- but no I would not recommend this home as a rental to anyone, especially at the price they are asking.

Response from the manager The out-of-town owner was coming there twice a year to repair, replace and refurbish this unit and she was scheduled to come the very next week after this woman's stay. She was very concerned about the woman's complaint and asked us to provide her with everything she needed which we did immediately. Since this complaint, the owner now comes four times a year and has set up a regular maintenance and deep cleaning schedule with her maintenance man and housekeeper. We receive almost 100% positive feedback on this cottage, it is very seldom ever vacant and it has the largest pool of repeat guests of any of our rentals which tells us that most people think it is a bargain at the price of $149 per night in the off-season, when she stayed. Despite the fact that the adorable lacy shower curtain and liner had just a tiny bit of mold on the hemline, we threw them both away and replaced them. We brought her a brand new cookie sheet to replace the old one, more wine glasses, more beach towels and new hot pads. The food left in the refrigerator was condiments such as ketchup and mustard but now the housekeepers are under orders to remove everything. Nancy

“Ok place for the price”

I stayed here with another small family. There were 2 adults and 2 children. It was small and clean. There were some areas that needed fixing, like the curtains in the bedroom and the deck up top but mostly, it was comfortable and it seemed like the owners care about this rental. I forget if they had wifi or cable. It's really close to the neighbors (it seemed like I could reach out the window and touch the home next door) and I think it would be too loud in the summer time but in November, it was fine. It's very close to the bay, the beach, and walking trails. There's a coffee shop about 3 blocks away. I can see how this place would get really hot in the summer. Even though it was about 70 degrees out, the upstairs got hot and stuffy but we just opened the windows and the breeze cooled it off very quickly. It has a parking spot which is important in this area because you'll need to drive to get places like Balboa Park, etc. Overall, it was ok for the price.

“A super-cute cottage at a perfect beach spot.”

We loved everything about this place. I would warn other families w/ small kids that the neighbors can party until the wee hours of the am. This is no fault of the owners, though. Everything else was great - especially the close proximity to the beach.
