“Fabulous hosts, food, and views!”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2010

An escape from the normal holidays, not to mention far enough from the city for it to be utterly relaxing. Luxury beds, amazing organic garden, wonderful warm hosts. Thank you!!

“unique retreat”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2010

This is true luxury in the country with breath taking views up the east coast of the South Island. A well thought out concept with local fresh food grown on sight or nearby. A fascinating collection of art and curios . Walks , surfing , beach combing , lazing on the decks, we did it all, and would love to visit again soon. A fab spot and private.

“Coming Back -Fantastic Stay - Thanks from a Jafa!”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2010

Just what I was looking for a place to relax and unwind. Located with un-obstructed views out to the ocean and up to the Kaikoura Ranges. A great base to do a day trip to Kaikoura, to go whale watching, or a magnificant drive through diverse countryside to Hanmer Springs for a dip in the thermal springs.. A very comfortable and well designed home. Ideal for families, a group of friends or anybody wanting open spaces.

“Its a must”

Wow this place is amazing! Views that go forever and so private. Staff who make you feel like family and give you the space to enjoy the homestead. Plenty of room for the kids run around, kick a ball or fly a kite in the breeze. Thanks David and John for a wonderful stay - we'll be back!

“Sensational home away from home”

Held my 50th birthday party here. Friends from all over canme and stayed. All rooms filled. All local accomodation also booked out. David and John hosted a wonderful celebration over three days. Secluded site, fantastic local fare, excellant company. The house is homely, arty, very comfortable and warm. Will be back again soon!

“Tops for hospitality and food”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2010

We enjoyed the most outstanding hospitality and the food excelled any restaurant that we know. The boys love entertaining and the location is to die for with views at the bottom of the garden to the sea. Most of their vegetables are grown fresh in their amazing garden and I have never seen such enormous garlic. We loved our stay and would return any time.

I took a group of friends to stay with David & John at The Port, it was perfect. David and John are very charming hosts, relaxed and nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere of the house is comfortable, the walls are covered with great art and the bedroom was fanastic with great views of the bay. We enjoyed walks and lots of chats on the sunny well appointed decks. David & John have poured their hearts, souls and muscle into this place and it shows. Loved it.

“100% Relaxation”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2010

The Port is beautiful, it sits high on the cliffs looking straight out to sea - no other houses for miles. My room was right at the front of the house - comfortable bed, fresh quality linen, eclectic designer furniture and attention to detail that you dont get at a run of the mill motel/hotel. David has a designer background and he has decorated the place with furniture pictures and nik nakery that he has collected over the years. Delicious dinner provided - these guys can cook. And fresh eggs from the chooks for breakfast with yummy preserves and whatever else you want. It really is lovely and mostly due to David and John - they are really cool, helpful and easy to deal with. Go there! You wont be Dissapointed.

“Something very special”

The whole place is absolutely stunning. There are 180 degree sea views with the charm of a rural farm area and amazing sea life, space and wilderness. The vegetable garden provided a great learning experience with some of the most delicious foods I have eaten in New Zealand. The house exudes novelty, history and is a museum of collectables. The service was caring, detailed, amusing and something from its own travel book. I would have to recommend this high quality rental for any stay in New Zealand. Ten minutes drive to a great cafe, walk to the surf, paua for lunch... well done you guys !!!
