“Lovely serene picturesque stay”
The cottage was charming, beautifully decorated and in a gorgeous position. We watched the sun rise over the estuary, flax and sea birds, a perfect New Zealand view. I particularly loved the colours and the furnishings of the cottage and the closeness to the sea was perfect. Service was great, everything provided.
“Perfect antidote to work and storms and earthquakes.”
The cottage was just perfect, a blend of funky fifties interior and unspoiled waterfront at the edge of the deck. We just wanted to get away from Wellington for a few days and Matahua was the perfect antidote to work and storms and earthquakes. Beautiful walks and views across the inlet. The loudest sound we heard all weekend was the birds. I'd recommend it to everybody I know if I wasn't scared of never getting another booking!
“A restful and idylic retreat”
I received excellent service with a beautifully appointed bach, privacy and views to die for. Being there in the winter was amazing - the early morning sunrise was spectacular and the open fire for the evenings perfect. The early morning chorus was something else - all the birds around the bach and on the estuary were amazing. I loved my stay - the absolute privacy and the idylic setting made it a visit to remember.
we spent 9 days there and we loved every day - even the 2 it was pouring. (so we could light the fireplace!) it is a very cozy little cottage, totally private, very clean, perfectly equipped (esp. the kitchen), great beds to sleep well, we loved the retro interior and the views from all windows - even the toilet one ;) we stayed there with a 1 year old and she liked it just like us. the location is excellent because it's right by the water, which is coming and going twice a day ;-), very close to nice little mapua, also close to motueka (e.g. big supermarkets) and also abel tasman ntl. park, beaches etc. nelson is also not too far. the owner was very helpful and friendly and we'd definitely come more often ... if we didn't live on the other side of the globe.
“Great place to chill out for a few days”
We found the place everything we had hoped for. The service and facilities were excellent and the location with it being private & quiet provided everything we were looking for
A friend who had recently stayed in Miro Cottage recommended we stay. we stayed two nights and had a totally relaxing time that we felt like we had stayed for a week. We loved the retro decore. The Miro cottage reflected the true definition of a "batch". We were fortunatle to enjoy the deck with a view in some lovely warm weather - with a bottle of bubbles then as the night cooled we had a fire - a large bottle of red vino was required. My partner enjoyed a snooze in the hammock. The outdoor bath was stunning! What more do you want for a holiday???!!!
If you are looking for a romantic cottage in the Nelson area Miro cottage is your choice. We stayed there in October when it was still cold in the evening. The open fireplace made us forget about the cold. Excellent location close to the water, far away from traffic. Three national parks can be reached within one hour drive. Elspeth is perfectly taking care about all your needs. You'll be sure to come back.
It's always a treat to turn down apple Valley Road and drive down through the vineyards to either cottage. Both are thoughtfully fitted out and on this occasion we stayed in Karaka. Six of us easily drifted through three days of sunning on the decks, occasionally paddling the kayak and feeling pretty happy with ourselves. Matahua cottages are to be recommended.
“Serenity in the Wetlands”
I had seen a photo of the bach snuggled into the bush along a quiet estuary, and thought, "It can't look so pretty... its probably the angle of the photo... but when we turned off the road and wound our way past the organic vineyard, happy chooks, and autumn trees, we found our little bach to be heaven. Quiet, sixties decor, fire set and ready to warm us, home grown apples in the basket, birds galore... even a welcome note from Elspeth... divine. Wished we could stay for a month... next time maybe.
“Not your usual holiday accommodation”
Miro cottage is situated beside an estuary surrounded by several acres of vines and apple trees. Its artistic and casual feel make it very welcoming and we were immediately at home. We loved the 50's,60's furniture and decor to match, it certainly sets it apart from the "normal" type of accommodation you usually encounter. If you can drag yourself away then Mapua Wharf is only a few minutes drive away with great fish and chips and some interesting stores.
