“Beware of 'Upgrades'”

We got a call a few weeks before our vacation from Palmetto Vacation Rentals saying they needed our villa so they were giving us an upgrade. So we didn't actually stay at Richmond Park 17a. We were beyond upset when we got there and realized we had been 'upgraded' to the South Tower which was nothing more than a converted hotel. I believe they called it a high-rise condo. It was old, small, and smelly. When they wouldn't return our calls, we drove back to the office and told them we wanted a villa not a hotel room. We were given the impression our upgrade was a better villa. They ended up putting us in a nicer place in the North Tower because there were no available villas, but it wasn't what we wanted. We felt misled about our whole ordeal. No one apologized, no one called during the week to try to smooth things over, nothing. I won't use Palmetto again. I don't recommend them. If you are considering this place, just make sure that if you are offered an 'upgrade,' you get pictures and know exactly what you're getting into. I understand that misunderstandings occur, mistakes happen, but we felt they were less than honest especially when we were given three different reasons by two different people as to why we were given the 'upgrade.' There are a lot of other companies out there. We've used a couple of others, and we've always had pleasant experiences. I would have been willing to give Palmetto another chance, but they didn't own their mistake or apologize for it.

Response from the manager On behalf of myself, being that I am the one that met with this particular guest and Palmetto Vacation Rentals I would like to say that all statements made here are not true. Once the Villa became not available the guest was contacted a month prior and ASKED if we could upgrade them from an off ocean property to an ocean view property. The guest was given the unit number and location and then Assumed that it was another villa they were being moved to. All properties are listed on our website and can be viewed with great detail. With a $1000.00 price difference and going from off ocean to an ocean front dwelling it was a major upgrade. There was no expression made from the guest that going from a villa to a tower would be a problem. The North and South Hampton Buildings at Kingston are not hotels but individually owned condominiums. No one intentionally refused to return a phone call, being it was the end of 4th of July weekend we were very busy and the guest had a hard time getting through. When meeting with the guest I listened to their concerns and was exposed to verbal abuse. I not only apologized over and over but gave them my personal cell phone number in case their were any issues in the unit they were going to and if they were not satisfied I would refund their money. I was the only person that spoke with the guest other than the employee who offered the upgrade. Palmetto assumes all responsibility when there is an error in our actions. In this case the guest must also assume responsibility for failure on their part. We did not make a mistake, we were vigilant on trying to make the guest happy and offered my apologies continuously. I do hope that you decide to visit Myrtle Beach again and that you would choose Palmetto Vacation Rentals.
