Getting around

Ekkerøy is a perfect place for just hiking close to the sea, and look for all the birds in the birdcolony. Its marked hiking-trails around this half island. If you like to go for a longer trip we will reccomend to use a car to come around. You can for example drive to Vardø - 45 minutes away - and there you can see the amazing witchcraft memorial "Steilneset" . Its a memorial of the 92 witches that was burned in Vardø in the 1600´s. Here you also find some interesting street-art and of course the bird-island "Hornøya" where you can see a lots of arctic birds and huge amount of them.

Very Good

“Relaxation and new experiences”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2014

My husband and I had a lovely week, far away from all responsibilities. We deeply enjoyed being right in the middle of beautiful nature, the possibilities of walking or skiing right from the doorstep - and coming back to a warm and cosy house with the most terrific view from all windows. Bird cliffs are within walking distance, but it is also possible to visit other cultural or birding sites by car. Ingjerd, the hostess, was most helpful in all aspects: finding ski gear for us, telling about cultural events of our interest and even sending us a text message when the northern lights were showing. (It had been my great wish to see it!) We also appreciated the many photos in the house, telling the story of Ekkerøy.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for a positive review Trine!

“Wonderful visit to Varanger in early Spring”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2014

This is an exceptionally comfortable house in one of the most spectacular yet accessible parts of the arctic. The house is warm and has everything needed for an enjoyable stay. It is situated in the beautiful former fishing village of Ekkerøy, on a peninsular that extends into Varanger Fjord. The location is very convenient for visiting many interesting locations in the area. The bird life and landscape is spectacular. And at this time of year (March/April) there are no mosquitos. Highly recommended for the holiday of a lifetime.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for a positive review Max!

“Great time on Ekkerøya”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2014

We spent almost two weeks in this beautiful house on Ekkerøya and enjoyed the island and the entire Varanger Peninsula. We experienced a wonderful time in late winter with lots of birds, auroras, at least some snow and ice and a great sky over Varanger Fjord. The accommodation was great and we will be back soon!

“Alone with the wind and the sea”

Reviewed 12 Dec 2013

We spent a few days at this holiday house - it was just the perfect cosy place to relax after a long journey! A very tidy, comfortable place, equipped with everything necessary. A lot of information about the surroundings of Ekkeroy and the "Top 18 Things to do and visit" make sure you will have enough to do during your stay! We were there in winter, and there was a storm, so we spent most of our time inside in the cosy sitting area or in the sauna! A very recommendable place to visit!

Very good location just next to the sea. Beautifull and silent village.

“nice house in the nature”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

I was happy to stay some days in the really nice and quired house at Ekkeroy. The nature around is just great and offers a lot of fantastic birding opportunities . The house was clean with a very nice atmosphere and few to the close sea. I`m looking forward to my next visit there.

Response from the owner Thanks Josef! Best regards Ingjerd, Ekkerøy holidayhouse

“Warm and perfectly Well situated”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2013

All was perfect- except perhaps the quality of beds for our backs. We enjoy the stay, which enable to rest efficéntly in little Time because we were all Day long walking.excellent place for birders.

Response from the owner Thanks Olivier! So bad for you backs! The beds should be the best because they have good quality and the brand SVANEN is very good - but maybe not for all backs!! all the best and welcome back from Ingjerd

“Pleasant base camp for spring activities”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

A most picturesque place for many activities. Elegantly modernized and equipped old house with a cute small sauna on the yard. Even some wood for burning, although not big woods around :) The sea, the bird cliffs, sandy beaches, aurora borealis plus enought wind and snow for kiting. Hope to get back up here some time!

Response from the owner Hello Ari! Nice to hear that you liked your stay in the White house in Winter-Varanger, and that it was enough snow and wind for kiting. Welcome back another time - maybe you will try your Summer-kite on the beaches of Ekkerøy? All the best from Ingjerd, Ekkerøy holidayhouse

“A couple of cosy days at Ekkeröy in familiar atmosphere”

Reviewed 27 Mar 2013

A heartley welcome by Ingjerd was a lovable beginning. The next days were just " could not be better". Arctic gale the first day, bird cliffs at Ekkeröy and Hornöya. Visting our friend Odd at Nesseby for a cup of tea. Northern lights in the sky, feeling at home in a cosy house right at the cliffs. We missed a visit in the sauna, it was just too cold out there.Maybe next time? All in all a place to come back.

Response from the owner Hello Rudi! Thank you for your nice words Rudi, and welcome back for a longer stay in Varanger:-)) All the best from Ingjerd Ekkerøy holidayhouse

“Lovely colours in Wintertime”

Reviewed 10 Mar 2013

Ekkerøy in winter, a risky destination? We had a wonderful time in the cozy flat of Ingjerd. A cozy, tastefully furnished and beautifully warm house, a wonderful sauna on the beach, Aurora, long sunsets and brilliant sunrises. A friendly population and a helpful landlord couple, all crowned with mostly good weather. We are convinced that the winter at the Varanger Fjord is particularly attractive.

Response from the owner Thank you for such nice words about your stay at Ekkerøy holidayhouse Maja. Welcome back another time. Best regards Ingjerd and Trond
