“Switch off your mobiles, computers and breathe”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2014

As a well-travelled couple, we have been for business and pleasure to various hotels and family run businesses in different part of Europe however DDG Retreat is definitively something else. Olga and Sacha have brought to life a corner of Andalusia making DDG Retreat the perfect escape to busy life and stress. The Gibraltar rock stands proud on the far away sea, a strong reminder Africa is a stone throw away. Mountains and plains as far as the eye can see will satisfy the born-adventurer in you. Coming back to the retreat, areas are divided into intimate spaces catering for the most demanding of guests. The luxuriant plants and trees at the heart of this divine place give a Caribbean feel to your holidays while vultures dancing above your heads make you truly feel in the midst of nature. Breakfasts and dinners are second to none, so treat yourself to date night with your partner in this romantic venue where you will be attended by the most discreet yet pleasant staff.

“Paradise”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2014

High above the white village of Cacares at the top of a winding road you will find the gates to paradise. From the moment those gates lazily close behind you, you realize you have entered a magical place. Hidden away amongst the pine trees you will find your 'Casa' individually designed to offer complete seclusion, peace and tranquility. If you can tear yourself away from your hideaway, stroll along to the spectacular infinity pool, slip into the cool water and simply relax whilst you take in the stunning scenery. Just in case you are not completly relaxed, book a massage, the setting in the middle of the pine forest is just wonderful. After a day of doing absolutely nothing, please please have dinner in the restaurant you will not find better than Olgas' monkfish 'a La Galician style' simply superb!!! To finish off the day head back to your secluded garden, sit outside with a little nightcap, gaze at the stars and think about plans for tomorrow. Exactly the same as today thank you !!!

“Perfection”

My husband isn't very good at relaxing, but he actually managed to unwind here. We were shown such kindness and care from the moment we arrived that we both felt the stresses leave almost instantly. Our casa was beautiful and we loved all the artwork. Everything was there to make our stay comfortable, even hats and flip flops. The outside space was just as lovely with even more artwork to enjoy; we kept spotting pieces we hadn't noticed, all from the travels of the delightful owners. The pool area is fabulous. You can relax in the sun, sleep on a day bed under a canopy, and look at the incredible views whilst in the pool. The food is so tasty. Olga is a brilliant cook and again the attention to detail in the dining area makes eating there a very special experience. What makes this place so marvellous is the seclusion and the peace yet your needs are met instantly and unobtrusively. We could not fault anything.

“Even better the second time around!”

Last year we had our honeymoon at DDG. This year we returned to celebrate our anniversary. All I can say is that our stay was even more wonderful than we hoped. We stayed in a different Casita this year (Cipres) which suited our shorter stay perfectly. We were blessed with wonderful weather which made the use of the outdoor facilities at Cipres essential! Going back meant we knew what was in store which only added to our excitement. Alex, Olga and the DDG team welcomed us like old friends - it was wonderful to see them and enjoy their wonderful hospitality once more. The most telling aspect of this review is that we are planning to return again next year to once again sample this little slice of heaven on earth. And I am the type of person who LOVES going somewhere new and different.

“Honeymoon that dreams are made of”

Reviewed 16 Jun 2014

Wow what a place to spend our honeymoon! This is a real beautiful part of Spain and the hotel is made for couples on honeymoon or who would like to enjoy a romantic break. The resort and Casas are isolated with stunning views for miles around. We spent days either in the infinity pool looking across the mountains, enjoying food and wine from our balcony or moving from sun lounger to sauna to plunge pool. The staff and owner help you so much and are very friendly. The food is exceptional and there's plenty of it. If you buy in to the ethos of the resort and let the owner look after you, you will not find a better place You will need a car and at night a warm top (maybe because we were there in May). Great place!

“Gorgeous place, spectacular views, stellar service”

Reviewed 8 May 2014

We stayed at the DDG retreat for 2 nights in Casa Oleandro. Alex greeted us and drove us into the retreat. On arrival, Olga welcomed us with fresh juice and warm towels and then provided a tour of the retreat's facilities. This was just one example of the excellent service we received throughout our stay here. We very much enjoyed a game of tennis each day, followed by the freedom of the infinity pool and its view of the mountains. The Hammam sauna was fabulous. The Casa provided a perfect base for relaxation with its outdoor terrace and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, the sunset in the evening, and the stars at night. On two occasions we ventured into Casares taking the secret path. The town is certainly worth visiting and is very close to the resort should you not want to wander too far. Eating at the resort on the first night we had the chorizo and lamb, both of which were delicious. In summary we had an absolutely fantastic time at the retreat. Our expectations were met, exceeded, and more.

“A beautiful place to relax and unwind”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2014

The DDG Retreat is an amazing place to visit. We stayed for 5 nights for our honeymoon in april. The casa's are beautiful and the attention to detail around the whole site is wonderful and makes such a difference. The site is set high in the mountains so the views from the casa were absolutely amazing. Our casa had a huge terrace with several seating areas and a lovely hot tub looking out to the mountains. The accommodation perfectly combines being at one with nature with a luxury feel and supurb service provided by all the staff. The owners are so welcoming and will do everything they can to make your stay great. In the local area there is the local village to visit just 5 minutes away and the beach just 15 minutes as well as some lovely local restaurants. The retreat itself is so relaxing. With only 6 casa's on the site there is so much space for everyone in the shared areas and having your own casa makes your stay very private. The pool area is fantastic with some lovely areas to chill out in hammocks and day beds all around the pool. There is also tennis and table tennis as well as a small gym and saunas. You can also choose to have spa treatments. The food is cooked by the owner and is delicious. They buy ingredients fresh the day before to make each meal. Meals are served in a beautiful courtyard garden with each couple having their own table under an individual canopy! If you are looking for a truly beautiful place to visit where you will feel well cared for but with all the privacy and peace and quiet you could ever want you must visit this place. We had the most wonderful honeymoon and truly hope to visit in the future for an anniversary.

“Hidden treasure on the hills of Casares”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2014

We stayed at the DDG Retreat during the Easter holidays and it was everything we expected and more!! There is nothing that can fault this place from the lovely surroundings, tranquility, to the generous hospitality of the owners and staff. We stayed on a "room only basis" but we decided to have breakfast and dinner which was cooked to perfection by the lovely Olga, we felt like at home (the leg of lamb is the best we have ever tasted). The outside pool area was fantastic with impeccable views of the nearby mountains and towns. The spa treatments are also a must! All in all the best weekend spent away from home. Highly recommended!

“Even more incredible than we anticipated...”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2014

We have just returned from a 4 day stay at DDG Retreat and are now trying to work out when we can return. From having read all of the wonderful reviews on trip advisor we new that the retreat would be fantastic...but it far exceeded all of our expectations. Olga and alex are such lovely people and have created a stylish, artistic, luxurious and truly relaxing place to stay. Everything is very well thought out and the views and natural setting provides a stunning backdrop to the retreat. We stayed in Casa Olivio and were overwhelmed by it's beauty and incredible views from the sitting room, bedroom, terrace and...best of all from the shower! All of the facilities are exceptional...we enjoyed playing table tennis and basketball together, as well as chilling out in the sauna, steam room, swimming pool and lounging about on the beds and hammocks. Olga's cooking is out of this world...we will be dreaming about her mussels for some time! The spa treatments that we enjoyed (deep tissue massage and indian head massage) were incredible. Olga even prepares a lovely detox drink and tea for you afterwards :) Thank you Olga, Alex and Daria for making our holiday so special.
