“Absolutely Wonderful”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2016

I travelled to Rome with my wife and two young children and had an absolutely wonderful time in Franco and Frederica's apartment. The apartment is very clean and has everthing you need to be comfortable and feel at home. The location couldn't be better and Franco and Frederica could not be more helpful.

“The perfect spot!”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2016

If you are looking for a charming place to stay that is a bit removed from the tourist attractions, this is your place. We loved staying in this apartment! It was a perfect fit for my husband and me. The Trastevere neighborhood is warm and charming and full of excellent restaurants. All the historical sights are within walking distance, although a taxi hub is nearby, too. The apartment's AC kept us cool during 90+ degree days. The large bed was very comfortable. Although we did not cook, the kitchen was fully equipped. The owner, Franco, met us when we arrived and was extremely helpful. He spent quite a bit of time with us, at our request, making recommendations for dining, sightseeing, etc. He also arranged a car service to take us to the airport. The wifi was great, plus there is a desktop computer set up for use. Don't worry about bringing an umbrella, the apartment has plenty. We would definitely stay here again.

“Excellent location and Great Owners!”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2014

I am late writing this review but I would be remiss to not share our experiences. The owners were excellent with communication, arranged transportation to and from the airport (really helpful b/c the apt is tucked away in a neighborhood). We had ATM problems when we arrived at the airport and Franco let us keep a few hundred Euros to have some cash until we cleared up the problem and we paid him back. The apartment has excellent wi-fi and a great desktop computer on site. It's easy to access from the street (only one small flight of stairs) you do not hear the bustle of the outside even with the windows open. The A/C worked just fine. There is a fridge, it's small but fine. The apartment is stocked with you would need. We ate breakfast there but lunch and dinner out. It's a bit tricky to navigate the neighborhood but after a few days you get it. You are really close to everything and we walked everywhere except the Vatican. We felt very safe walking around in the evening. The owners are very reachable and the few times we need to reach them (get passport numbers) it was easy. I would highly recommend staying there!

Response from the owner Thanks very much fro your kindest review. We look froward to having you back on another occasion soon. F&F

“Perfect location”

Reviewed 3 May 2014

This is a wonderful find in the Trastevere area of Rome. There are numerous restaurants very close by, and yet the apartment is quiet at night. The major sites in Rome are within a 40 minute walk or less. The apartment itself is very comfortable, well equipped and quite large for two people. The owner met us upon arrival and took time to show us the apartment as well as maps of the area with recommended restaurants, shopping and activities. They were only a phone call away if we needed anything.

“Very good for families”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2014

I stayed at this apartment for 3 nights with my husband, mother and 3 years old daughter. The flat is definitely small for 4 adults but excellent for a family with 2 kids or a family like mine. Don't think too much about it, this is an excellent place to stay. You will not regret it!

“Great hosts, great place, great location”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2014

Can't say enough great things about Federica and Franco's place. You truly feel like a "guest" not just a paying customer. They are warm and welcoming people. Their apartment is lovely; the accommodations very comfortable (great bed, very nice towels), and they even thought of the little details like soap for the washer machine and dishwasher. The location is perfect: quiet, convenient, and fun. Highly recommend "Al Portoncino!"

“If You're Thinking of Staying In Trastevere ... Stay Here!”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2014

Federica and Franco are a delightful couple who really care about the apartment that they rent to people who want to discover the character and beauty of the Trastevere Section of Rome. My wife and I were greeted by them on a rainy Saturday afternoon and they could not possibly be any nicer and more helpful to us as we shuffled our bags into their apartment. This apartment has a ton of character and charm. It has one of the the best possible locations in Trastevere and I can only try to describe how much my wife and I enjoyed their apartment. We stayed there for a total of 25 days and we loved every minute. The apartment was spotless when we arrived and F & F arranged to have their cleaning person stop by once a week to change the sheets and towels and to make sure that everything was perfectly clean. The apartment is not large, but it was the perfect size for the two of us. The bed was super-comfortable and the living area was comfortable an pleasant. Spending time on the couch with a WiFi that was very good was helpful to us during the rainy days. The kitchen was very usable, although we managed to dine out in the neighborhood where there are dozens upon dozens of very good restaurants within a five minute walk. The apartment is located minutes away from cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs yet it was very vey quiet with absolutely no street noise to be heard at any time. There is a small balcony that overlooks a courtyard which was very pleasant on the warmer days. The shower had excellent water pressure and there was an adequate washer for dirty laundry. My wife and I could not find a single fault with this charming apartment. This apartment was an excellent choice for my wife and me and if we return to Rome we would definitely call F & F to book their apartment. I should also mention the Federico speaks perfect English and both of them went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. This is the only apartment to rent if coming to Rome

Response from the owner Dear Bobbi and Andy, thank you so much for your kindest words. You are such a wonderful encounter, we are the lucky ones to have had such amazing people staying at our apartment. We look forward to having you back, anytime soon! Federica and Franco

“Fabulous!!”

5 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars al Portoncino would have to be the best accommodation we have experienced during our many years of travel. This was our 2nd stay, and as we knew would be the case, it was exceptional.Federica and Franco are passionate about making your Rome experience a fantastic one. Once again they arranged transport to the airport which was prompt and efficient. The apartment itself as mentioned before,is beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean, and includes everything you could need, nothing has been forgotten. The area is alive and bustling, with an endless choice for meals, coffee, shopping, entertainment or just enjoying the wonderful atmosphere. It's close proximity to the well known attractions is a bonus, it was a joy returning to our little slice of heaven each night after a long day exploring. Federica and Franco, once again you've made our stay a memorable one. We know we will be returning again, and can't wait to spend more time in this home away from home. We really look forward to it.. Thank you for being such wonderful and gracious hosts. Sylvia and Murray

Response from the owner Grazie Sylvia and Murray! thanks for returning, you are such great people! Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Baci F&F

“A wonderfully clean, quiet and modern apartment in a historical”

Reviewed 25 Nov 2013

My husband and I have just returned home from spending five days in the al Portoncino apartment and we can't imagine a more wonderful way to visit Rome. The apartment is in a 16th century building but it has been completely renovated to make a very charming and a very modern apartment that that is fully-equipped: a very clean and quiet place in which to relax after a day of sightseeing. We loved being in Trastevere, a historical section of the city that is full of wonderful restaurants, people and music, even in November. Most of the main tourist attractions are within walking distance and public transportation is close. However, what makes al Portoncino even more wonderful is the exceptional welcome that the owners, Frederica and Franco, gave us. They are simply fantastic. They were there to meet us and they took the time to show us how everything worked in the apartment and to answer all our questions. Franco has prepared maps to show exactly where things are: buses, Atms, grocery stores, local restaurants, and possible sight-seeing itineraries. We have been to Rome several times but thanks to Frederica and Franco this was, by far, our best experience. We only hope that some day we will have the opportunity to return to al Portoncino.

“Totally enjoyable - wonderful to come home to.”

Reviewed 22 Nov 2013

We stayed in this wonderful apartment in September. We had never been to Italy before and were delighted with the accommodation, the neighbourhood, and the Roman people. Federica and Franco were very warm hosts and anxious to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The apartment is very clean and comfortable. After sight-seeing all day we were happy to come "home", put our feet up with a nice bottle of Italian wine and discuss the discoveries of the day. Thank you Federica and Franco for our wonderful memories!
