“Sweet spot in the Canadian Rockies”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2017

Can't say enough great things about this cabin. So well stocked with all you need for a stay in this area. John has gone the extra mile with movies for rainy days, all your kitchen needs, even small head lamps for that after dark walk back from the Truffle Pigs restaurant. Even a heated bathroom floor! Field is a small hamlet, quiet and peaceful but the perfect location to access all the area has to offer. Thanks John. Will recommend to all.

“Perfect!!!”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2016

The Burgess Lookout is one of the best places we have ever stayed! Perfect in every way. Field is a great base for exploring Yoho, Banff and Lake Louise . But back to the cabin...it's clean , cozy and had everything we needed. Pictures do not do justice to this place. And try the Truffle Pigs restaurant . It is outstanding ! We will be back! ,

“fantastic place to stay, will be back very soon”

Reviewed 11 May 2015

This is a great cabin with everything you need inside. highly recommend all you need is to bring your own food and everything else is provided. Great hiking trails close by and is super quiet. The owner is always available if needed. Will be back very soon and many times over.

“Most superb place in the Rockies”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

This property is in one of the best places you could possibly stay in the Rockies. The accommodation for two is ideal with all the amenities you could want and more. It is truly a home from home. The cabin is superbly furnished and decorated and in excellent order. It's situation at the top of the village means you feel more part of the wilderness than a town. There are a couple of good restaurants, post office, artisan shops and an excellent visitor centre for the Yoho National Park and surrounding areas. The location of Field in the wonderful Yoho NP and midway between Banff and Jasper makes it a superb place to explore in all directions. Ideal for hiking with many trails, waterfalls and lakes to explore. John, the owner, was very prompt with the booking and exceedingly helpful with questions. If I had to say the one thing I liked best, and that would be difficult, it would be the location. And liked least - absolutely nothing.

“Addicted to Burgess Lookout!”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2014

3rd time out to Burgess Lookout - and already hoping for another stay this winter, and again for late summer/autumn, then next winter, and again...is this an addiction? Who wouldn't get addicted to the simple and easy booking arrangements, John makes it a breeze, plus all the amenities and delights of the cabin? Each stay I discover more of what the cabin has on offer. Just when I think the place is perfect, I notice more! This winter it was: cloth napkins, a new vintage ski poster, non-toxic cleaning supplies, an excellent games collection, and more! Last autumn it was the laundry supplies/equipment that caught my notice - perfect after a muddy hike! There is just everything a person could ever need or want! Not to mention the many more discoveries in the national parks outside the door! In the autumn there was the opportunity to be on the trails of the 3 postcard lakes (Lake Louise, Lake O'Hara and Emerald Lake), all just minutes from the cabin. John recommended the perfect closing hike in autumn and had snowshoes and an easily accessible trail on recommendation in winter...just so knowledgeable of the surrounding area! This winter, the unbelievable volume of snow on the ski trails was only made more perfect by coming home to the cozy cabin for happy hour(s) and relaxing times. This February an elk visitor even gently came to the top of the steps to say hello, making happy hour even more picture perfect! All total, the outer natural surroundings and inner hub of the cabin are the perfect combination and perfect getaway spot. I only wonder: when can I get my next fix?

“Peace in a beautiful setting”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2013

John has made a perfect little oasis in the mountains. We had read that the cabin was well stocked, but there is so much more there than you could possibly anticipate needing. It was having a vacation with all the comforts of home. We cooked almost every night and stocked up on groceries on the way to the cabin. The cabin served as a great central hub for going out and exploring the many trails in the area. The location of the cabin is wonderful with views of Burgess, Field, Stephan mountains. John was a great host and made the stay even better, Thanks John.

“A perfect winter retreat!”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2013

Burgess Lookout cabin has it all for a winter retreat hide-away: a quiet location close to the edge of town and bordering a forest walk-way; chalet-style character and charm with many art-y touches and books/music to enjoy while curled up on the couch with a blanket; high quality furnishings and meticulous house-keeping, plus the very well-equipped kitchen and bathroom other reviewers have discussed. John provides a rare attention to details...and even had a xc ski map of the area waiting for our arrival! Most of all, John's approach to renting the cabin set a relaxing and low-key tone...everything was easy. He even recommended a gorgeous trail to ski for the last day of a perfect winter retreat. The only unfortunate part was having to leave...we will just have to stay longer next time!

“Delightful cabin in lovely town”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2012

This is a lovely place to rent in a great location. The owner has decorated and equipped it immaculately. The location on the edge of town is peaceful but close enough to hear the occasional romantic whistle of the trains. Field may be a small place but the location on the Trans Canada Highway 1, the Kicking Horse River, and the Canadian Pacific Railroad is great for just watching the world go by and visits in Yoho and adjoining national parks. The scenery here is awesome and you will find no better base for exploring than this cabin. Tip: if you want to avoid crowds, stay away from the hotspots like Lake Louise and Banff - if you feel the need to see them, go v early or in the evening. In our opinion, much better to choose the less frequented spots and walk for 1km or so - this is where you can truly appreciate BC and alberta.

“A wonderful retreat in the Rockies”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2012

This cabin is beautiful. It is nestled within Field which is the perfect location for exploring the Rockies. For winter activities it is ideal because of its proximity to Emerald Lake and Lake Louise, and because John is so helpful in terms of directing you towards snowshoes, skis, ski lessons, maps and trails. The cabin has everything that you possibly need, and importantly for this time of year, it's warm! Absolutely stunning.

“Amazing Family Ski Vacation”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2012

This was our first family getaway vacation. We spent most days skiing at Lake Louise, but the rest of the time was spent in John's wonderful cabin. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations, it truly was a home away from home for us. The cabin is very cozy, roomy, wonderfully decorated and super clean. It is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The town of Field is nestled so perfectly in the mountains and is such a neat place. Truffle Pigs is an absolute must try! We went for dinner one night and made reservations for another. Also, after seeing the beautiful pieces of pottery in the cabin from The Velvet antler you will want to get some for yourself. John is a wonderful host and makes sure that you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We will definitely be booking again!
