“Hilltop Haven”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2014

Archon Villa is high up in the mountains above Paleachora. After a steep winding ascent you reach the tiny hamlet of Prodromi and immediately see the grand villa. The location is stunning, the sounds of bees humming, birds singing and goats bells ringing are the only things you can hear. It's so quiet and beautiful it's breathtaking. Definitely 'away from it all.' The Villa is beautiful with everything you could need. We were travelling with 2 children, one 4 and the other 5 months. all we needed for them was there, baby bath, cot, changing mat, (even a buggy so that we didn't need to bring ours with us...)toys,games, puzzles pens and paper. It was perfect for them. The kitchen is well equipped and we did some cooking, although we didn't have to cook every night as the amazing Manya cooked for us twice, giving us tastes of traditional cretan dishes like boureki and mountain greens with pork - delicious! oh and not to mention the cake, easter biscuits, wine, fresh oranges and lemons and olive oil which seemed to just keep coming! (and lollipops for our daughter!) Manya is amazing. She exceeded all our expectations as a host. Our daughter adored her and couldn't wait for the cleaning days so that she could see her again! She is funny, kind and extremely concerned for the welfare of her guests. Just perfect. (She even gave us all gifts when we left.) Paleachora in april is a sleepy little resort. many of the tavernas were still closed when we arrived. The locals were busy painting chairs and tables getting ready for the season and day by day more opened. The beaches and sea are beautiful there. And in anidri the next village down from Prodromi is a gem of a Taverna which used to be the village school. Chairs and tables outside sit under a 300 year old olive tree and look down through mountains to the sea. The food is amazing. Go! All in all an incredible holiday was had at archon Villa. I cried when we left. What more can I say...? Thank you Manya, see you again!

“Archon villa - pearl of Sfakia”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2013

Archon villa is a luxurious modern house, stylish, but absolutely well fitting to the landscape, very well equipped with everything You´ll need, with beautifull garden and verandas.Compliments to owner and architect! Situated in the middle of the wild Sfakia in absolute quietness - to hear only the wind an (far away) the ring-a-ding of the sheep´s bell. You need a car to drive the 12-15 winding, winding kms to the beaches or the town; but already in 8 km there is the village anidri with its most famous "Old School", where You´ll find a real fine cretan regional cuisine at its bests! Manya is great - so helpful and caring! You´ll be in the best hands ever.

“Very beatiful house with woderful view”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2013

We came in an architecturally unique House, hardly found it as a holiday home. The House is clean, very tastefully decorated and is located far from any noise (unless it interferes with silent sheep Bell). Already the drive from Paleohora to the House leads through a grandiose landscape (travel time 20 minutes). The garden and the terrace are a real paradise, the photos speak the truth. During our one-week stay, we were spoiled by the Nice and pleasant landlady Manya with an excellent, homemade Pasticcio. And don't forget: Manya brought us kilos citrus fruits from their own cultivation, which resulted in a delicious fruit juice. All in all, it was a holiday of very special kind and we intend to do it again anyway.

“unforgettable stay”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2013

We stayed in archon Villa for just over a week - everything about our stay was fantastic. The villa is a 12 km drive up into the hills from Paleochora in the tiny village of Prodromi, a perfect place for peace and quiet with only goat bells to be heard. The villa is beautiful, immaculately clean and extremely well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen including plenty of storage boxes and baking equipment - far exceeding all the previous holiday homes we have stayed in. The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and all plumbing and electrical things like showers and washing machine etc worked perfectly. Our teenage daughters particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi. There was air-conditioning but we did not need it as the villa is so well built that it stays naturally cool. Manya - the owner - is fabulously generous. Not only was she happy to wait hours for our delayed arrival, but she provided home grown fruit, honey and local herbs, home made wine, raki and olive oil and a home cooked dinner, complete with cake and little pies made with local greens! She stayed for an hour on our arrival and made sure we got our bearings and gave excellent recommendations for local restaurants and things to do. Manya then kept in touch by text during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. On top of all this she arranged a rental 'cello so that one of us could stay on top of practice in preparation for a concert the day after our return! She could not have been more helpful and we were sad to leave - it was an unforgettable visit.

“A wonderful location, and fab house- a truly memorable holiday”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

We had a fantastic holiday at Villa archon, a truly peaceful and wonderful location. The house was just perfect, everything you could possibly need for a great holiday. Even the views from the house were picture perfect. A great sense of history in the location, and the walks from the house into the hills and beyond were magic. We swam every day at different beaches to the east of Paleochora and spent a day visiting the archaeological site at Lissos...the Taverna at adrini was a great place to eat. Well done and thankyou.

“Best place to stay with family”

It is always nice to be back home after a holiday, but this time it took a good while until I got rid of the feeling of missing Crete and our "pink home" in Prodromi. It was great to have so much space in the house and the beautiful garden around. Children had a lot of choices where to play. The area is beautiful and offers a lot of walking routes with marvellous views. Various beaches are just close enough. Pleasant mountain breeze, bees buzzing, goats and sheeps tingeling their bells under the olive trees, half an hour drive along the curves to town to have a wonderful Cretan meal in taverna - it all made a perfect atmosphere to enjoy the holiday and have an idea of what is a life in Crete like. Thank you Manya once again for a great home in Crete!

“An amazing stay in an amazing house with beautiful terraces on a”

Reviewed 4 May 2013

We stayed vor a week in archon Villa in Prodromi in the middle of the Cretan mountains. We had the most wonderful time. The house is very spacious and confortable. It is a new house beautifully designed with the charm of ancient times. The views are magnificent on all sides, with in the distance the sea. The owner, Mrs Mania is very, very friendly and hospitable. She even cooked a delicious traditional meal for us and brought it all the way up from Gania. We really had the most wonderful time and can recommend it to families with children, groups of friends and especially nature-lovers! There are no shops in the mountains so one has to shop in the nearest village which is a drive for about 20 minutes. Having a car is very necessary!

“Absolutely Recommendable!”

We were only three people and even though we only had one half leased, it was more than simply spacious, while still not appearring empty or open like a hall. The check-in went really smooth, even though we arrived as late as 21:00 o'clock. Seeing as the villa is located in one of the many mountain villages (Prodromi) in Crete, the first guide was much appreciated and after that we got a lot of tips like shortcuts and must-see-places. We even got our own selfmade Pastizio, a kind of greek pasta bake. It was enough to feed three people for more then two days and very delicious. If you like pasta, that is. The house itself was very nice. The kitchen had everything one could ask for: A Stove, a fridge, an oven, a microwave, even a dishwasher. And lots more, we even got to make our own fresh orange juice. The house was clean, the beds were rather comfortable and the whole atmosphere simply relaxing. Not to mention the incredible view from the balcony: Mountains covered with grass and some trees, the valley below, a church way back on top of the opposite mountain. Simply magnifiscent. From this rather remote place it is about 10-15 minutes to the next bigger city, Paleochora. Altogether this holiday was probably the most enjoyable I've had up to now. Everything fit together and just felt right. A warm welcome, a great residence and a good location made our vacation in the "Villa archon" very, very cozy and lovely.

“An extraordinary discovery!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2012

Archon Villa and Prodromi have been an extraordinary discovery for my husband and I. The villa is located at an incredibly beautiful spot. We arrived at night and it was in the morning, after a fantastic rest in the comfortable master bedroom, when we realized that we were in a unique place. Watching the amazing dawn from bed is priceless! The views just took our breath away. We were surrounded by nature, peace and beauty. The Villa is exquisitely decorated: All details have been taken into account to make you feel confortable and at home. We enjoyed any single dinner at the terrace by candlelight watching the changing sky colours and relaxing ourselves. We did feel at home. Manya, the owner, is just the perfect host. Her hospitality is outstanding. She took care of everysingle thing we might need and she even spoiled us with her great cooking, her tasty oil and her wine...we didn´t want to leave... The drive to get to Prodromi (from Paleochora) is just...exciting! The high, the road to get to it, the mountains and the sea, and at the end of the way, at the top of Prodromi, you get the image of magnificent archon Villa.. unforgettable. September weather was perfect. The combination of cristal water beaches, delicious food, beautiful nature, hospitality of Cretans and archon Villa has made our holidays perfect. It has been our first time in Crete and we will definitely come back to archon. Thank you Manya!!
