ESCAPE THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE...

****CURRENTLY DUE TO COVID VIRUS CONCERNS, WE ARE NO LONGER PROVIDING SHEETS, TOWELS OR ROBES. ( Hopefully we can again provide these items when the virus is resolved. ) Bedspreads, shams and a blanket for each bed will be provided and washed before each new visitor. We are removing decorative pillows and throws. We clean and sanitize and put at least 48 hours between visitors checking in and checking out. Mattress pads, pillows are sanitized with disinfectant spray.***

Sitting just off the Blue Ridge Parkway you will find Fernwood Cabin which is a new rough hewn 900 square foot log cabin that sits on five acres 10 miles outside Galax, Va. The home is less than 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and approximately 9 miles from the Interstate 77 Exit for Fancy Gap. Come to the Mountains to ride along the parkway, drift down the New River by canoe or float. Trout fish at the Crooked Creek Fee Fishing Area or bicycle down the New River Trail or Parkway. Visit the Blue Ridge Music Center and listen to Blue Grass. Drive to Mt. Airy, NC and enjoy Mayberry and the home place of Andy Griffith.

This charming cabin sits on a hill with one porch overlooking the mountains. A paved drive comes into the house which has a gravel driveway. There is a rock walk leading into the home and another porch at the entrance. Large rockers sit on the back porch and a small dining table is on the back porch that overlooks a mountain. Very few lights are visible in the night sky. There is a picnic table on the front entrance porch.

The kitchen has all new General Electric stainless steel appliances and is fully furnished with refrigerator,stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Dishes, pots, pans, blender, toaster and grill are provided. LINENS (SHEETS,PILLOW CASES, TOWELS) ARE NO LONGER PROVIDED AT THIS POINT IN TIME.. There is a 32 inch flat screen tv with a DVD Player with Satellite TV getting SHOWTIME.

The first floor of the home has a combined living room, kitchen, a full bath and bedroom with a poster queen sized bed. The cabin has hardwood floors throughout. The living room has an oriental rug, a camel back sofa and upholstered chair. There is a dry stacked hearth with an electric fireplace with remote. In the kitchen/living room combination there is a small table with four chairs. The 2 bedroom home has an open construction with a loft above the living room and a bedroom and half bath. This bedroom lies to the left of the steps and has rails on one side. There is a half bath and a sitting area with a love seat and chair on the second floor.

The home is minutes from the Crooked Creek Fee Fishing Wildlife Area. Crooked Creek includes six miles of trout streams (some sections are stocked) plus 1,600 acres of mountain land available for hunting deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels and grouse. The area is home to the New River Trail which is recognized as one of the top ten mountain bike trails in the United States. You can hike, bike or ride horses along the New River. The New River Trail is approximately 15 minutes from the cabin.(MANY EVENTS ARE CURRENTLY CANCELLED). State Parks are open .Close to many mountain cultural events, we hope you will chose us for your visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Also nearby is the Blue Ridge Mountain Music Center, the Hillsville Va. Labor Day Flea Market, the Galax Fiddler's Convention and many numerous events. You are only a stone's throw from Mt. Airy which is the home of Andy Griffith. Click "Information about the Area". The Rex Theater in Galax offers live Mountain Music and generally only $5 for admission. S

Location: 1/2 hour from Mt. Airy, NC, 1 hour from Winston - Salem, NC, 1 1/2 hours from Greensboro, N.C.and 2 hours from Charlotte, NC. Virginia Tech and Radford University are only an hour away.
