“Perfect”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2014

Stayed here during the "polar vortex" of 2014. The cabin was a little chilly at times, but held up to the intense cold outside very well. That pellet fireplace is really all it needs! The design of the cabin is remarkable. The open second floor utilizes the principle that warm air rises to create a natural current that circulates warm air across the second floor and down the other side. This keeps the whole cabin warm using only a single heat source and no fans. All this while keeping the pedestrian and workflow very simple and intuitive. It's amazing! Even with four people it never felt crowded at all. Mike is a great guy too. As a fellow engineer he and I always had a lot to talk about. And it turned out he studied the same language I'm trying to learn - he recommended a couple of great books for me to study and even brushed up on his Mandarin so he could talk to my fiancee's parents. He genuinely cares about his guests and it really made our stay wonderful. I'll definitely be back!

“Salt Water Pool and Cool Cabins”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2013

I stayed at this cabin with my wife and another couple. I believe the cabin we stayed at is the one in the main picture, although other cabins are on the property. Jake came by every day to deal with issues and was very prompt in dealing with anything that came up. The grounds are well-maintained, and there is a salt water pool which is key for people like me who don't deal well with standard chlorinated pools. The property is also a good place to take a walk: there is a small pond and some meadows in the woods near the cabins. The location is fairly remote. It's good for relaxation, and also for exploring the Hudson River Valley. While we were here we visited Poughkeepsie, Kingston, and New Palz, which are all between 60 and 90 minutes driving distance. There are paper wasps in the roofs of the cabins, but they are not aggressive and will mostly leave you alone.

“Great renovated cabin in a great location!”

Just stayed here for four nights with a friend for a week of creative work and hiking - cabin itself is spacious with a nice kitchen and equipment as well as a cozy fireplace. Mike was really easy to get in touch with as we set up the trip, and he told us all about the best places to hike in the area which helped immensely. I'm looking forward to our next visit!

“Once in a lifetime experience!”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2012

It was my first time living in a cabin so i didn't know what to expect. The experience turned out to be more than wonderful. Great amenities for a weekend stay and excursions to nearby sites offer a great variety of experiences. The owner of the cabin was very friendly and helpful. We cooked our own meals in the kitchen so the stay was very relaxing since we didn't need to bother with driving out to find restaurants. Overall we had loads of fun! Would definitely recommend to everybody! especially close friends and families.

“I keep returning here...”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2012

I discovered Emerald Forest Bungalows last summer, when a good friend and I were searching online for a place for a weekend getaway within a couple hours drive of New York City. Our criteria was: less than 3 hours drive (this place is less than 2 hours from Brooklyn!), someplace with "atmosphere", quiet, naturalistic, affordable. We had a good feeling about this place after speaking to Mike on the phone before coming up, and our experience proved to be just what we were looking for. We swam in the pool, ate our meals & drank beers on the screened porch- saw fireflies, heard frogs in the lake nearby, and the next day explored the region- this place is near some amazingly beautiful natural state parks/ natural preserves- look up the 'Gunks, Minnewaska State Park, etc! Mike and his partner stopped by and were so welcoming, they made us feel right at home. My friend who I went with returned later in the summer with a business partner/friend of hers, for a work- related retreat... someplace they could talk ideas without all the distractions of city life. I returned just yesterday, with two other friends of mine who wanted a weekend out of town. Each time has proved just as lovely. I'm hoping to return again soon, it's nice to have a familiar place as home base to explore the gorgeous region.

“Lovely Property - Great Location!”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2011

My whole family loved our time staying here. The property itself was beautiful and the cabin was very clean, comfortable, and stayed cool during warmer temperatures. The kids loved the pool and hiking. The pool was absolutely beautiful and very nice to swim in. Nearby in town there are great options for food, sightseeing, and hiking. It's worth checking out the wineries in the immediate area. Mike is a great guide for things to do in the area so make sure you ask him! The cabin is also located around 2 hours from Manhattan so if you want to do some sightseeing there that's an option too. If you're looking to stay at a place that's away from it all but not entirely disconnected this is where you want to go. Staying here was a great choice and we hope to come back for years to come.

“De-stress perfection”

Beautiful details in the pristine new build, and the friendliest possible welcome, combined with fresh air, local produce, sparkling water and hundreds of places to walk made this a superb break. Light years from the big apple within two hours drive.
