“Perfect little Cabin”
This cabin is the perfect size for our family of 6 and the location is ideal! Close to the falls trail and state park but independent of all the people that go along with visiting state parks!
Excellent stay as always. Very satisfied with everything. Thanks again. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings which includes the Ricketts Glenn State Park.
We have stayed at Jeff's Rickett's Glen Cabin three times and dread leaving each time! The cabin is clean, close to the falls, lake and the perfect mix of seclusion and accessibility. One of the hardest part of booking on sites like this is trying to decipher how close you will be to any other houses. This cabin is surrounded by woods with a barely visible neighbor that we have never seen at any of our stays. I have young sons and I feel completely comfortable allowing them to explore around the cabin and through the woods. Jeff has always been super helpful and friendly!
The cabin is great and this would have been a 5 star review had it not been for a couple of things. I was specifically looking for a weekend getaway with my wife in the winter in a wooded area with a wood burning stove. What I did not know when I booked the cabin was that you are not to burn wood in the wood burning stove, only synthetic logs. While I understand the reason behind this, I would list a wood burning stove as an amenity if I won't allow you to burn wood in it. I knew about this well in advance as Jeff sent the rental agreement, which included the "no wood" restriction, soon after I booked the cabin. Unfortunately, there was one fairly big surprise waiting for us when we arrived. There is a fairly steep incline going up to the house and the driveway was covered in snow. I couldn't get our car up to the cabin. It was just a little snow, which shouldn't have been a problem but the car just kept sliding back down the driveway. It was late and dark, so we decided to leave it at the bottom of the driveway and try again in the daylight. We started taking our groceries up the driveway when my wife slipped and slid down the incline and into the front of the car. She bruised her hip pretty badly and was limping for the rest of the weekend. Luckily, there were no broken bones. With the way she had slid down the hill, gaining speed, I figured there must have been ice underneath. The next day, it had warmed up a lot, which melted the snow and revealed a thick sheet of ice that had been hidden the night before. It must have been 60 degrees or so because the ice melted by the end of the day and we were able to get the car up the driveway. I'm sure this isn't a regular occurrence but it did have an a effect on the weekend. However, I don't think it would be fair for this to be a negative review. I would still recommend the cabin. Aside from those two things, it really is nice. Jeff seems like a decent guy and offered an extra night's stay that we were not able to accept as we both had to work the next day. Just be aware that you can't burn wood in the stove.
“Best Cabin in the area”
I have stayed at this place many times over the years, and each time I stay I am reminded of how great it is. Perfect location for hiking, fishing, hunting, or relaxing. Highly recommend staying here.
With my sister and four boys in tow, we rented this charming cabin over spring break. What a fantastic time we had! The boys loved running and playing in the woods behind the house. The fire pit was perfect for the cool spring weather and the location to the entrance to Rickett's was perfect. Less than 3 minutes away! We had a great time and the boys keep asking when we can go back.
“Very close to the park”
We had a great time staying in the cabin. The interior was clean. I didn't feel like I was afraid to touch anything like I have been in some hotels. Everything worked. There were no problems with lights, outlets or appliances. The heat worked well. The cabin is extremely close to the park. You can eat in the cabin but if you get bored of that there are lots of places to eat in the area including a hotel that serves great food right across the street from the cabin. The cabin is about 100 yards back from the road so you have some seclusion but close enough for you to get out and sight see. What I liked best is that the owner takes extra good care of the place. What i liked least is the stairs. This not a problem if you get around alright but if you have young children the steps are very steep and you might need to help them up and down.
“Perfect, perfect, perfect!”
We both love the outdoors, whatever season. We were looking for a nice weekend stay in a cozy cabin with our dogs and we found it. We can't wait to rent it again, and this time bring some friends and families to experience it with us. It was warm and welcoming, clean and had everything we needed and then some. Both of us (and the dogs) enjoyed snowshoeing at Ricketts Glen. Perfect weekend, perfect place.
“A relaxing getaway!”
Our trip to the cabin at Rickett's Glen was wonderful. It was the perfect place for our family to relax and get away from our daily routine. The cabin is clean, well equipped and very private, yet not far from a great local restaurant and a small, country convenience store. We loved hiking the falls and then having a campfire in the evening back at the cabin. The size of the cabin was great for our family of four. More than five may be slighlty crowded.
“Great weekend get away!”
My husband and I rented this little cabin for the weekend to hike at Rickett's Glen. We had a great time and were able to bring our dog along with us (which was a must since it was a hiking trip). The cabin was perfect for us, and we are hoping to come back and rent it again in a couple years. The place was just as we expected. It is sort of close to the road, but you can't see it from the cabin but you can hear the traffic. It's so close to Rickett's Glen, which is such a beautiful park. A nice firepit was out back that was nice to sit and relax in the evenings after hiking all day.
