“The Best Place to Stay in Kyoto”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2014

I have been traveling to Kyoto for 35 years and staying in various hotels and ryokan. In addition, in the autumn of 2012 my wife and I rented a western style apartment near Shugakuin for three months. Nene House has is by far the best place that I have ever stayed in Kyoto. It is a spacious, Japaness style house with a six tatami mat living room and a six tatami mat bedroom, plus another three tatami mat bedroom. At one point we had five people staying comfortably in Nene House, since the living room can easily accommodate two people. The kitchen/dining room is huge and fully equipped. The dining table easily seats four people on chairs, but two more people can sit at the ends of the table on folding chairs. There is also a modern toilet, a spacious shower room, which also contains a Japanese bath; and between the toilet room and the shower room is a third room, containing a sink, a washing machine, and a folding clothes drying rack. I have always wanted to stay in the Higashiyama section of Kyoto, where Nene House is located. It is situated on a quiet street, which is about a two minute walk from Ninenzaka, one of the most charming streets in Kyoto. From Ninenzaka it is a short walk to a bus stop on Higashioji Street and also to a Fresco Supermarket, which is open 24 hours/day. Nobu-san, the owner of Nene House in wonderful. He is fluent in English and a very gracious host. When I misplaced my key to Nene House, I called him; and he appeared within 15 minutes, to lend me his key. I apologized profusely for having to bother him, but he reassured me that bringing me his key was no bother at all. The only reason that I am reluctant to recommend Nene House is that I want to stay there again the next time I am in Kyoto. I do not want to discover that this rave review has contributed to making it impossible to reserve Nene House for my next stay.

“Quiet little oasis”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2014

We stayed at this nice little house in Kyoto for two nights. The place was everything we expected and I doubt the location can get any better! Nobu-san, the owner, was extremely helpful when it came to giving recommendations about the area and the sights as well as how the public transport in Kyoto worked. We cannot recommend this place highly enough for the combination of good value for money, excellent location and supreme service!

“Quiet and peaceful experience living in Kyoto”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2013

We could not have wished for anything better than our three week stay in the traditional surroundings of Nene House in Higashiyama in Kyoto. Near the temples and shops and restaurants of the historic area around Kodajai Temple and Kiyomizudera, yet in a street that is quiet and peaceful away from the crowds. Nobu-san is a wonderful host and the house was always clean and fresh and a safe and peaceful place to come home to;we felt like it was truly "our home".

“Great location and comfortable accommodation”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

We loved everything about our stay at Nene house. Nene house is a traditional Japanese house and in a very charming traditional and quiet neighborhood. The service provided by Nobu san was outstanding from booking to checkout. He provided us with many resources to help us plan our trip. The house is in a perfect location and close to many touristic places, bus stops and a supermarket. We were pleasantly surprised how clean and comfortable the house was and enjoyed having a TV, DVD, Wifi available. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable was provided including shampoo, conditioner, soap and towels. It's an ideal place for families with a kitchen to prepare meals and having the living area separate from the bedrooms. We will definitely be coming back to Nene house.

The Nene House had a great location and very well equipped. Nobu-san was very welcoming, organised and efficient. One of the best places we stayed in Japan!

“Everything you need!!”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

Our family stayed at Nene House in Kyoto for 10 days.It is in a quiet street but in a great location for exploring the wonderful sites of Kyoto - many of which you can walk to. The house was very clean, well appointed and had everything that we needed to make our stay enjoyable and hassle free. Nobu was welcoming and offered to help us with tips on what to see and how to get around. We would certainly recommend Nene House to others, including families.

“Perfect everything”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2013

The property is a great place to come home to after a day of sightseeing and shopping in Kyoto. It is in a quiet area and yet near to the shops that sells different kinds of souvenirs. There are supermarkets nearby that are open 24 hours and the bus stop is not that far. Places of interest are within walking distance from the property. Overall, the location if perfect for a visit to Kyoto. The owner, Nobu, was quick to answer all my questions, not only about the apartment but also about Kyoto. He also volunteered to arrange for a shuttle to bring us to the airport the day we checked out. He is very pleasant to deal with and i will not hesitate to stay at his property the next time we visit.

“Perfect stay in Kyoto”

This was my second stay at Nene House and again, it was perfect. Nobu-San is a wonderful host and the home is clean and well-equipped. The location is perfect for sightseeing, transportation and amenities. We highly recommend Nene House for your stay in Kyoto. For our family, it is comfortable and convenient.

“Fantastic authentic Japanese living experience”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2013

We stayed at Nene hourse during Oshougatsu. It is simply so convenient, reasonably priced,s Japanese, yet clean and well appointed. This house is right in the middle of the Higashiyama area and walking distance to all the local temples and shrines, yet a convenient bus ride away for other parts of Kyoto. The shopping street only one street away was simply awesome, with everything Japanese you could want to buy. Nobu came and met us at the house laet at night because our flight camein late, perhaps the bus stop would have been better as we had toruble finding the house in the dark.

“History right on your doorstep...!”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2013

We had a fantastic stay in Kyoto. Nobu-san was a brilliant host, preparing the house for us and full of information. Nothing was too much. The location of the house was wonderful, right in the historical heart of the city with the beautiful Kiyomizu-dera temple almost on the doorstep. We spent 5 amazing days exploring this beautiful city and will definitely return. The house was perfectly equipped and we enjoyed all sleeping in the tatami room with sumptuous duvets. The kids loved the warming their feet under the table! We couldn't have asked for anything more. Nobu-san...we will see you again.
