“great value”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2012

We enjoyed staying here and would recommend it as a great deal for a stay in the city. Know that it is a busy city though, and expect noise from the market. Booking was easy and Gabriele answered all questions promptly. We were met by his brother and then met his parents who reside in the building... all very friendly and helpful. I would only suggest that there be a dish cloth and tea towel in the kitchen for cleaning up because we made good use of the facilities and these were the only noticeable things missing!

“Friendly,lively and everything to hand”

A lovely clean and comfortable apartment in the middle of the market and no we didn't find it too noisy. We had the most beautiful produce, wine etc on our doorstep for a very reasonable price. My husband cooked us some lovely meals so adequate facilities. We also had some nice meals out particularly one just over the road (On the Wall, can't remember the Italian). We had a friendly welcome and lots of information from Gabriele and his father. We travelled to lots of places on buses and trains. We even went to agricento (Valley of the Temples) by train. The trains were air conditioned which helped a lot as the last few days it got very hot.We were glad of the air con in the bedroom which kept us cool at night. We particularly loved a little bar about 5 mins away in Piazza Beati Pauli. Always a good welcome and service and lovely chilled wine for a good price. We would recommend this apartment to friends and family and would like to go back again. There is so much to see in Palermo and I look forward to the reopening of the refurbished Museum of archaeology. It was a lovely old area to stay in. Beautiful crumbling old churches and other buildings. At times we felt we were in a more exotic destination like North africa. There were fruits and vegetables in the market that I had never seen before. So much better than a package trip in a hotel that is the same as all over the world and serving the same kind of fare. Try and learn a bit of Italian!

“Clean. functional, location excellent with a real authentic Pale”

Fantastic location for a cultural holiday experience. Downside- shower cubical too small for taller people plus a small sofa in kitchen'sitting area would certainly help. Otherwise couldn't fault the location, facilities and help of owner Gabriele.

“Excellent apartment”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2011

I recently stayed in Gabriele Freni's apartment in Palermo and I would say it was an excellent experience from several points of view. First, it is located in a unique place - within the 'safety' of the Palace of Justice grounds, but also right next to the Capo market. This is a famous market, where all your food can be bought, particularly fish, which is in abundance and fresh daily. The apartment block is within walking distance of all 'central' Palermo points, notably the Teatro Maximo, the Teatro Politeamo, the Via Della Liberta etc. The apartment block is recently renovated and each apartment (as well as the general ambience) is very pleasant - as are the family you deal with. The Freni family go out of their way to make you welcome, and the brothers speak fluent English. I would recommend anyone to go there - but I had better not say too much as all their apartments will be booked up and there will be no room for me to go back myself! Phillip Riley

“Lovely, good value accommodation near great food market”

Good clean accommodation and friendly accommodating owners. Close to amazing very cheap food market and restaurants. Short walk to sites and centre of Palermo with easy bus service to beach, airport and mountain walk. Would highly recommend

“great place”

very well situated in Palermo (less then 10min from Cathedral, 15min from Cuatro Qanti). Very clean and functional Owners are very good advice and nice. Only one negative remarque: bedroom over a market so it becomes noisy in the morning.

“Very comfortable stay”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2010

We stayed in Residence Porta Carini for one month during the summer and we found the apartment to be very comfortable for such a long stay. The kitchen was large enough and in good shape so that we could do most of our cooking at home. We also had a generously sized bedroom with drawers, wardrobe and aircondition. The aircondition was off course a must in the hot month of august. The airconditon was in perfect condition so we did not have any problems with the temperature. Our bathroom was also nice and had all the amenitites of a good bathroom. Our apartment was on the third floor and so the escalator of the property came in very handy. We also had the service of cleaning and change of sheets and towels once every week as promised in the ad. The owner was very accomodating and helped us with any questions we had. We also had a very good price for our long stay and so it is great value for money. The location right next to the Capo market was also a great advantage as we could just step outside our front door to do our shopping. The capo market had a very good selection of fruit, vegetables, fish and meat and coming from the northern part of the world we loved having the sweet fruits of the south every day. All in all I can recommend the Residence Porta Carini very warmly to anyone who needs a place to st ay in Palermo.

“excellent experience, highly recommend!”

wonderful apartment. Gabriele met us at the bus stop despite our late arrival and showed us a bit of the local area to help us get our bearings. Right at the heart of Palermo and on top of the market where you can find anything! Short walking distance to more or less everything and from the bus stops to Mondello, Monte Pellegrino and Monreale. Clean and comfortable and service above and beyond, only downside is no pool but approx. 25mins from the best beach I've ever come across. Gabriele's girlfriend is also very nice and they both made us feel like family visiting - highly recommended.
