“4th stay at Point o' Vue”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2012

We returned on Saturday from yet another wonderful and relaxing visit to Eleuthera. This was our 4th time down and we just feel at home on the island and at POV. Tessa was wonderful and keeps the house ship shape and tidy. Columbus was his usual jovial self and stopped by a couple of times for a nice chat. Had a nice day on the water out at Schooner Cays and a few lazy afternoons on the beach in front of the house. As usual, the Bahamian fish mocked me all week long but I still managed to catch a few in Half Sound and in Winding Bay. All in all, a great vacation and my kids have been constantly asking when we'll be going back. Hopefully next year...

“Excellent Fly in Destination”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2011

My wife and 2 preteen kids, along with another couple, flew our plane from Pennsylvania to Rock Sound airport on Eleuthera for a week long stay. The flight from Palm Beach was less than 1 1/2 hours. Customs was fast and friendly at the 7,000 airport only a 15 minute drive from the house. We were met by Columbus with our rental van and went to the house. It took our breath away. The pictures don't do justice to the view. It is located right on a beautiful bay with palms and crystal water. We brought wet suits but never used them. We did use the 3 kayaks which came with the rental and the cabana on the beach. Sunrise and sunset walks on the bay were great. The house is clean and nicely furnished with a big flat screen TV, surround and stereo, comfy couches and a great patio. There was a constant cool breeze and we never turned on the air conditioning. There is a master suite on the ground floor and two good sized bedrooms on the second floor. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The best place to shop was The Market, a grocery store in Rock Sound. It had everything we needed. Prices were higher than in the states, but not excessively so. You can also get local food at local restaurants (we tried Sammies and Barbies, as well as the more upscale Four Points) We took side trips to Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound and Governor's Harbor. We also drove to Lighthouse Beach at the very southern tip of the island. This was our highlight. The road is terrible as advertised, but we made it in an old minivan, so it can't be that bad. The Caribbean and atlantic meet there and it was just breathtaking. We posted lots of photos at marksvelocity.blogspot.com. All in all a terrific trip.

“Ultimate Relaxation”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2011

We had a wonderful time at Point o' Vue. The house is lovely and wonderfully situated on a beautiful bay. The style of the house is very open - great for families with a nice balance of privacy and communal living. We were two couples and two children sharing a room - house was perfect. Great service from the caretakers. We have been to Eleuthera several times, but our first at POV. We were very happy with the house and the wonderful location. There is great snorkeling available on the bay and at local beaches - the water is calm enough that our nine year old girl snorkeled for hours at a time with the adults! Fantastic marine life within easy reach of the beaches (parrot fish, lobster, trunk fish, octupus, Ridley turtle! and more). We even went GeoCaching (you knew that you would find this activity in the Bahamas). The grocert store in Rock Sound is a good one - an important point for staying on Eleuthera.

“Paradise on Winding Bay”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2011

We've just returned from our 5th stay since 2003 at Point O' Vue and as usual, it was terrific. We (obviously) love the place and feel very at home there. There were five of us this year - our best friends and our 15-year old son. We're avid snorkelers and the "boys" like to spearfish, so we eat well from the sea almost every night with all manner of fish, conch and lobster from the reefs in Winding Bay. We generally have a boat, but even without a boat, there are plenty of snorkeling spots within easy reach of the shore not far from the house. Northside Beach, north of Rock Sound, is a fabulous spot - lots of sand, tide pools and reefs right off the short to explore. We also explored Surfer's Beach and found lots of small pretty shells. We did finally make it to Island Farm, which is a great spot to get fresh local organic greens, tomatoes, herbs and other yummy things. The grocery store in Rock Sound just keeps on getting better - we've given up entirely on bringing anything from home! And there is a terrific new wine store (Bristols) in Governor's Harbour which is definitely worth a visit. If you're up towards Governor's Harbour, dinner or lunch at Cocodimama is highly recommended. As everyone else has already stated, the house is very comfortable, spacious and well-maintained. Cola and Columbus are terrific - we learn new things about the island and fishing from Columbus every time we visit. Eleuthera is definitely not for those looking for a vacation with lots of shopping and nightlife, but if you want total relaxation on gorgeous deserted beaches, genuinely friendly locals and no "tourist traps" this is the place for you and I can think of no better home base than Point O' Vue. We will most definitely be back!

“Peaceful, rejuvenating retreat”

Reviewed 7 Mar 2011

This was our second time coming to Point O'Vue, the first time with our children. The house is amazing, with everything you could want or need. Columbus and Cola were very helpful and friendly, prepping the house before our arrival. The beach is stunning, with wonderful, soft sand that is perfect for sand castle building. We hit the Lighthouse Beach for an awesome day of exploring and snorkeling, we dove for sand dollars at Ten Bay Beach, body surfed at Surfers Beach, watched the sunset at Tarpum Bay while picking up fresh fish, and mapped out gazillions of constellations from the upper deck at the house. If you're there on a Friday, don't miss the Friday Fish Fry in Governor's Harbor. The food and dance were a delight! My children want to move into POV permanently! We kayaked, swam, napped, flew kites, and completely chilled out. Pov is big enough to give everyone his own favorite spot to hang out. The TV looked like it would keep a restless soul happy, but we never found the need to turn it on. The weather was spectacular--80 degrees, sunny, a slight breeze to keep away bugs, and cool at night for perfect sleeping weather. It was a vacation we will never forget, and one that we will try to recreate on our next visit to Point O'Vue. Fly into Rock Sound to get to paradise the fastest!

“Eleven perfect days in a row”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2011

Point O'Vue is designed to accommodate its guests. It is spacious and has both indoor and outdoor spaces, sunny and shady patio and porch, a top deck with a view of Winding Bay, kayaks, beach for walking and swimming, internet access, a delightful caretaker, and a creative gardener. If you are looking for crowds and prepackaged entertainment, look elsewhere. Our visit there was like a dream. We wish we hadn't had to wake up.

“A warm and winding New Year week!”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2011

We all had a great week at this special villa and location. Lots of different ways to soak up sun sand and stars on this most friendly island, great moments of solitude, family sharing, laughter, caribbean dreams, owners very helpful with local services and adventures. Would definitely return.

“Great Xmas Vacation”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2010

This was our 2nd vist to POV and once again we had a great time. We attended the local Junkanoo festival on Boxing Day in Tarpum Bay. What an experience. Tarpum Bay is centrally locaated and one of the specific villages whre the fisherman come each afternoon to sell their catch. Quite and experience to haggle for your dinner. Worth the trip. The house is beautiful and one feels like you are visiting a relative what with all of the family pictures around the home. It's location on Winding Bay could not be more perfect for sunrises and lazy days. The bay itself is not so great for snorkeling, but perfect for younger children as it is quite shallow and usually fairly calm. There are great snorkeling beaches within a 10 minute drive either north or south. Eleuthera is a unique place and the locales are very friendly and very helpful. We absolutely love it. Marty, the owner, is a joy to deal with and his write-up of local attractions, sites and restaurants is superb and a must have for anyone relatively new to the island. On two visits, we have yet to disagree with his recommendations on anything. Enjoy. You will not find a better place for the money anywhere on the island.

“Second time was just as charming!”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2010

This was our second time at Point o'Vue in as many years and this time the only difference was the addition of another guest to make 3 of us. There are so many good things it is difficult to list them all. This time we took notes from the book "The Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera" and visited many of the beaches other than the one in front of the house. A morning drive down to Lighthouse Beach was pretty cool. It take plenty of work to get there, but it is worth it. We went to so many other beaches that I forget the names, but Lighthouse was by far the best. This time we bought more fish at the dock and got lucky to get 2 15-pound lobster tails that were $1 a pound! Unbelievable. We also ate locally and never had a bad meal. Do Governor's Harbour and Ocean Hole. We only ran into a couple of people that were tourists, this is a quiet island with tons of charm. Columbus, the house manager, is a great value to the property and the island with several tips and stories about Eleuthera. He knows everything and everyone and it's a total value for the stay.

“Great location, beautiful house”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2010

We had a wonderful time at PointOvue in May. The house is very well thought out, well maintained and clean. Its clearly a well loved home, has a very comfortable feel. You can open the patio doors on both sides and have the breeze go right through the house. We never needed to turn on the air. We took our three year old daughter, and this was the perfect beach location. There was a breeze to keep us cool, but the water was still and shallow. We saw starfish and rays just wading into the water. Found some great shells on the next bay over. Never turned the TV on once. The garden is beautiful and gives a great transition from the house to the beach. There are three porches. We had breakfast and lunch overlooking the ocean, dinner on the front porch in the gardens, and watched the stars come out from the upstairs deck. The master suite is on the ground floor, but we chose the stay in the upstairs bedroom so we were on the same floor as our daughter. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, and had Cola the housekeeper prepare dinner for us. She was able to get some groceries to see us through the weekend. She was a great asset. We found our way around quickly, and the closest store 'Burts for the Best' had most of what we needed. We froze some meat and had no problems traveling from NY city with it in checked luggage. We rented a car from Colombus and most mornings we explored some nearby beaches - Ten bay, South Palmetto. We found a guide book at the house and used it to explore some out of the way beaches. Highly recommended, the whole experience was easy. Great communication with the owners and a good system in place to make it easy for guests.
