“Jackpot!”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2011

Everything was perfect. We have travelled all over the Europe, rented houses etc., met very nice people and so on. This time our experience was, well, perfect. We were treated more as friends and guests than paying customers. Grazie mille! Saluti!

“Crazy idea, superb experience”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2011

We rented Il Castello for 6 weeks in april and May and hosted various friends for one to two weeks each, a total of ten couples in all. All were impressed and delighted with the location, style and facilities as well as the wonderful countryside. Although there was little Italian language among us we found small difficulty in living and interacting. *Service received: excellent, conscientious friendly and beyond the call of duty, via Laurie the owner and Gail a local friend of the owners. Laurie acted promptly whenever we had a need for attention to the facilities, and was excellent in responding if any concern emerged. *Accommodation: Absolutely delightful location and outlook, interesting and beautiful and with a wonderful environment to explore. The castello was generally in excellent in condition and equipment, although a few household items were lacking. Laurie promptly provided these or reimbursed us for purchasing (eg wine glasses). We did a few odd jobs eg replacing power outlets and Laurie appreciated this and reimbursed very promptly. Most of the castello was well airconditioned, although the basement bedrooms were too cool in april. It would not be suitable for a person with difficulty in climbing stairs. *There were too many sources of delight to tell the "best”. The local restaurateur, Primo Piermarini, provided delightful focus for several expeditions to find truffles, and for an outstanding day's picnic in his childhood land in the apennines as well as several delightful meals. All were amazingly good value, and very economical by australian standards. There are so many different and interesting towns to enjoy that few of our party even bothered to extend to Rome or Florence! The gentle friendliness of unhurried people in Umbria opened some of our purpose-driven eyes to another way of living. *Worst aspects:lack of correspondence between maps, gps's and roads. Several of us would think twice before adopting Garmin gps's for this area!

“Wunderschöne Ferienwohnung mit toller Aussicht”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2010

“Awesome Location”

it was our first stay, but it wasn`t our last stay there.

“We loved the hilltop village life”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2010

We are just about recovered from the 32 hour trip, 8 hour time change and summer to winter. San Mamiliano seems almost like a distant dream, but we will remember it always. We loved living in Il Castello, and exploring the area, finding new little villages everywhere (we even managed to drive to Spoleto via ancaiano on one occasion - an interesting road! We made it to Orvieto 3 times, Assisi 4 times, Piano Grande twice, Todi, Spello. Perugia, Gubbio, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montefalco, Bevagna (3 times, including overnight during their festival). Your restaurant recommendations were great. We really loved Locanda Rovicciano and dined there twice, Apollinaire (3 times) La Barcaccia twice, Osteria Della Matto 3 times; and we became regular wi-fi visitors at Caffe degli angeli.
